A lot of people are praising Pablo for utilizing such ingenious metaphor in a song, for here in the Philippines, it is not everyday that you see a composer make use of a scary creature for a song that talks about achievements and humbleness.

Mana is a fan favorite song, especially the choreography, it's best watching it live, they're monsters. If you noticed, Ken always starts the song, even in ballads. Pablo is such a genius that he knows who will sing each part. In Golden Hour he is just harmonizing, he doesn't have a solo part. That's how selfless our Pinuno - means leader or short for Pins...
Mana is my most favorite Wishbus performance of SB19!!! And even if I'm a Filipino I couldn't seem to focus on the lyrics, I couldn't absorbed it, I always alwayyyyys just listen to the music, it's just so cool!!!!
MANA on Forte - chef’s kiss. Orchestra, no backing track, and black suits? Little else you can ask for. Except… MANA in concert is performed like musical theater and they’ve even more adlibs on stage, if you can believe that. I suggest a fancam from the WYAT Tour Kickoff or Homecoming Concert. 1) Have anyone 15:54 noticed how a smile always peeps out from Hurraira when Stell starts his part in song?😂 2) There was so much lost in translation. Someone below did one that gives the lyrics more justice. 3) My favourite line in the song is “Langit lupa’y magsasama” roughly translated as “The heavens and the earth will one day come together”. To me these words have so many layers of meaning. This is my 2nd favourite song from Pagsibol (album) next to What? Mapa is my favourite song among all songs in the world though.

Pablo being Pablo is using the word Mana in multiple ways here. Mana derived from Pamana (inheritance), you can also take it as Manna (as in Manna from heaven). The scary theme of the soundtrack is a nod towards "Manananggal" a type of vampiric monster that halves its body at night. The upper body grow bat-like wings and it preys on pregnant women. The term is derived from the term Tanggal meaning remove. If translated it mean someone who removes - in this case, someone who removes their upper body. Pablo uses this mythical creature to allude to their mindset of soaring high but keeping grounded. Because the Manananggal will always return to its lower body before sunrise for it to survive. The vocal arrangement on this track is something special, because they really paid attention to the landscape the lyrics were painting. Ken is the sound that is of the earth and he keeps it there in the entire song. We know he'll always hold that bottom harmony, but in this song, he's literally sounding like his voice is coming from the depths of the earth. Jah is the run to the end of the runway, Josh is the take-off, Pablo is the cruising elevation through thunderclouds and Stell takes us to the stratosphere.
Mana supremacy!!! 🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇 It may not be as famous as their other tracks from Pagsibol, but this one's well loved in the fandom, and now you know why. 😊 It's so freakishly awesome how each of them showcased their different strengths, showering us with their crazy vocal range as a group (just coz they have a member who can go so low and another who can reach so high, and the rest who magnificently filled the gaps in between)! I hope you watch more than one of their live performances for Mana, coz IT IS LOADS BETTER when it's a full on performance with the choreo. Sometimes I think that because the Manananggal itself is already a great concept to portray the message/s they are sending, conceptualizing an MV to do justice to this concept must be quite a headache. The lyrics used have already masterfully painted an imagery in our minds regarding the story, and the MV has to top this image to elevate the song even more. So, it's a dare, SB19! 😊😊😄 On the other hand, I also think they are deliberately holding back on the MV. Because in MANA, the group pulls off a surprise stunner. You’ve encountered another one of Pablo’s play-on-words: mana does mean inheritance, but he’s also appropriating it as a shortened form of the word “manananggal”, a mythical female creature that flies around with its torso separated from the lower half of its body. Edit: traditionally, the manananggal has always stayed on the list of evil mythical creatures (as opposed to good, neutral, or mixed mythical creatures). But through Pablo’s imagination, this is the first time I’ve encountered the manananggal used metaphorically for groundedness even as one soars high, and to have that as a secret “grace” (biyaya or mana). I think the translation came from google hahahaha, some don't really make sense at all. ken's part that says "pasensya ko'y wag mong subukan" is supposed to be "don't test my patience". This song is similar to Gento in the way the lyrics has so many Filipino double meanings and references that I feel sad I’m not completely fluent in the language and completely immersed in the culture. I think the lyrics of this song was translated literally but that is not what really the meaning of the translation. It has a deeper meaning. Many Tagalog words have double meaning and can't be translated literally.
Not really a fan of this translation for Mana. The lyricism is lost a bit and probably some back story about local lore and culture can help appreciate more. But this is not to take away the musicality and originality of SB19 compositions. Just glad the more recent songs have better translation.

3) My favourite line in the song is “Langit lupa’y magsasama” roughly translated as “The heavens and the earth will one day come together”. To me these words have so many layers of meaning.

Manananggal means a mythical creature in Filipino folklore (scary character in a sense, half body with wings, sort of half bodied vampire?)
Pablo being Pablo is using the word Mana in multiple ways here. Mana derived from Pamana (inheritance), you can also take it as Manna (as in Manna from heaven). The scary theme of the soundtrack is a nod towards "Manananggal" a type of vampiric monster that halves its body at night. The upper body grow bat-like wings and it preys on pregnant women. The term is derived from the term Tanggal meaning remove. If translated it mean someone who removes - in this case, someone who removes their upper body. Pablo uses this mythical creature to allude to their mindset of soaring high but keeping grounded. Because the Manananggal will always return to its lower body before sunrise for it to survive.
The vocal arrangement on this track is something special, because they really paid attention to the landscape the lyrics were painting. Ken is the sound that is of the earth and he keeps it there in the entire song. We know he'll always hold that bottom harmony, but in this song, he's literally sounding like his voice is coming from the depths of the earth. Jah is the run to the end of the runway, Josh is the take-off, Pablo is the cruising elevation through thunderclouds and Stell takes us to the stratosphere.

It's so freakishly awesome how each of them showcased their different strengths, showering us with their crazy vocal range as a group (just coz they have a member who can go so low and another who can reach so high, and the rest who magnificently filled the gaps in between)!
I hope you watch more than one of their live performances for Mana, coz IT IS LOADS BETTER when it's a full on performance with the choreo. Btw, mananangal in the Phils is a mythical creature where the upper part of the body flies at night to hunt for a victim while the bottom half stays on the ground. They are comparing themselves with a manananggal even they are getting successful they remain grounded. They keep their feet on the ground.

Sometimes I think that because the Manananggal itself is already a great concept to portray the message/s they are sending, conceptualizing an MV to do justice to this concept must be quite a headache. The lyrics used have already masterfully painted an imagery in our minds regarding the story, and the MV has to top this image to elevate the song even more. So, it's a dare, SB19! 😊😊😄
On the other hand, I also think they are deliberately holding back on the MV. Because in MANA, the group pulls off a surprise stunner. A gem to be uncovered by the casual fan through their journey of discovery. It masquerades as a B-side in their discography. But pardon me, it's B-side, my ass!

Edit: traditionally, the manananggal has always stayed on the list of evil mythical creatures (as opposed to good, neutral, or mixed mythical creatures). But through Pablo’s imagination, this is the first time I’ve encountered the manananggal used metaphorically for groundedness even as one soars high, and to have that as a secret “grace” (biyaya or mana). Very interesting! ☺️
I think the translation came from google hahahaha, some don't really make sense at all. ken's part that says "pasensya ko'y wag mong subukan" is supposed to be "don't test my patience". Also, Josh's part that says " ha? Di ko na marinig ang sinasabi nyo. Di na nga umaabot dito sa kinalalagyan ko. Ingay pa ng katabi kong eroplano..." is supposed to be "huh? This song is similar to Gento in the way the lyrics has so many Filipino double meanings and references that I feel sad I’m not completely fluent in the language and completely immersed in the culture. My parents are Filipino and I was born and raised in the US, and I just have to accept that I will never be able to completely appreciate the art in the lyrics of songs like this

And BTW manananggal (mana) is a Philippine mythical creature of the dark who looks like a human being during the day and becomes a monster at night, its torso separating and flying away from its lower body to prey on sleeping humans. I think the lyrics of this song was translated literally but that is not what really the meaning of the translation. It has a deeper meaning. Many Tagalog words have double meaning and can't be translated literally.

Not really a fan of this translation for Mana. The lyricism is lost a bit and probably some back story about local lore and culture can help appreciate more. But this is not to take away the musicality and originality of SB19 compositions. Just glad the more recent songs have better translation.
