Everything about the story and film is perfection. It stays with one forever. The beach scene as Father Ralph strides toward Meggie across the sand in the exquisite ecru three-piece linen suit is sublime. All of us know what is about to happen. THE pivotal moment in the entire story/film. As gripping as the storyline is, we are left knowing Father Ralph departed this world for the next not at complete peace but torn between the love of God and carnal love. What could be better?! Thank you, Colleen McCullough!

No one in any interview that i have seen ever mentions Christopher Plummer/ Vittorio. Why is this? I thought he played his role as Ralphs mentor/ friend/ confessor very well. He used a lot if innuendos . Was he difficult to work with why people just pass him by?
I have thought of this many times as well. It would be nice if someone made a video about the bonding between father Ralph and vittorio. I have also noticed that Chamberlain rarely mentions Plummer when he discusses his costars in the Thornbirds.
@@annageorge8415 I think I might have found the reason he is not mentioned. I got it from a Christopher Plummer page. Plummer was an alcoholic. I guess that did not go down well with Richard as its brought back memories of this conflicts with his father. Also, alcoholics are notorious for being difficult to work with. It seems also that Plummer was somewhat of an afterthought. His name is stuck on the end of the credits as a guest star like he was not the original choice. I watched his parts carefully yesterday and he was really trying very hard to rise to the occasion. I didn't see any sign of alcoholism. But who really knows?

Can never atop watching this movie.i order this movie years ago and i still have it till today.once in a while i watch it and enjoy the love story.
