Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has attributed this to Eskom's ramped-up planned maintenance.
Political writer and researcher Dr Ebrahim Harvey says despite the improved load shedding situation over the past two weeks, the tentacles of corruption at Eskom over many years have sunk so deep - that it might never be completely overcome.

A few years ago we evaluated a new applicant, a electronic engineer, final year University of Pretoria. For a start he could not use a soldering iron, had next to no knowledge of the subject he studied for 4 years and to top it all off he could not operate our Russel Hobs Kettle to make himself a cup of coffee as he could not figure out how to open it to poor water in.

Sounds like the media incl presenter tried to push a specific narative. Well done for DrHarvey for putting the record straight. Presenter did not expect that first few minutes of response, the tone of the interview nearly took a turn for the worse for the presenter and she had to backtrack a bit. Let's be real and honest with people of SA... something that you will not get from polititians and certain media channels. I vote for Dr Harvey for minister of electricity. Sounds like he at least knows what a volt and a watt is. 👏👏👏

ANC must be removed from government for at least 10 years, SA needs visa programs for skilled people, cut back on the rampant racism against people who actually want to live here from other countries, and less state more private sector. Otherwise SA will never get forward. All the dependent people will always be dependent if we don't cut the state back. But South Africans need to work harder, be more disciplined, and want more. This lethargic attitude is what is holding this beautiful country back.
I love how the experts all seem to overthink the situation, the ANC are playing election games and in any other economy but Africa they would get marched out of their positions of power. TIA.

Eskom is missing out on a huge opportunity. Why not bulk buy solar equipment as they will have a serious advantage, and then offer people installations at home. Charge by the kw/h. They would have a serious advantage in the ability to provide and it solves much of the grid expansion issue. The current generation capacity can gradually be eased into a role providing heavy industry etc
Elections and cooler weather so less air-conditioning and genereration units run more efficiently in cooler weather and also so many people with solar now, especially industry and big businesses. We have a client who just spent R2m on solar for their factory.

It’s not because of the white staff exodus, what Eskom needed to do is to move away from subcontracting especially for maintenance and hire technicians in house, the trouble at Eskom is that subcontractors pay for these units to be sabotaged so they can be called in to do repair work at an inflated fee. It’s known that state organs pay a premium for everything they subcontractor because of the dealings done at procurement which have to pay multiple bribes just to do the work. In sourcing of Eskom is the only thing that can save it permanently.
