I love how the three historical models represent not only bygone eras in human history, but in Lego history as well with the pirate ship, the forestmen’s hideout and the yellow castle.
This might be one of my favorite designers working at LEGO right now, his eye for detail and storytelling inside an amazing building experience and look, it’s why the Police Station is one of my favorite sets of all time. Genuinely amazing interview and I love hearing from designers.
I bought his custom designs before Chris McVeigh became part of the Lego group… like the old tv set and fridge and oven, radio cassette player, computer, all very detailed sets!
@@TheWatcher-FromHellthey never are. The ground floor is (nearly) always tiled, unless you're the palace cinema or a very early modular like the cafe corner, then you're just a baseplate. And any floors above the ground floor are never tiled. They're always plates.
I have to disagree here. I think he's a great designer and makes the builds almost perfect however I don't see anything new or exciting about it. Also it somehow lacks soul and I felt the same way with the police station. I have nothing against the designer again I think he's good at what he does but I just feel like the older modulars, even the Book Shop has something special about it even though it's fairly simple. I know a vague explanation like this is bad but it's more about how the designs make me feel rather than the execution. It's hard to pin point the exact reasons for why that is, but if I tried I'd probably say it's just the fact that he brings in so many elements from other buildings and combines them it's almost like how machine learning works, bringing features from all kinds of different museums together and then we get something that looks like all museums all at once without feeling like something new and special was created. I guess design is an iterative process like that but this is just my opinion, I personally just don't find these designs interesting, and if I could choose I would have someone else design them.
I really enjoy the uploads of the designers showing their work. Really interesting way to reveal all the cool new sets. I love this one and cant wait to build it with my son :)
@@wildgrizzlybear8920Well he’s buying it for the two of them as a way to spend time interacting which is virtually the same as spending money on amusement parks, by taking time off or for any other activity. Building Lego with one another is one of the best bonding experiences imo
I usually don't do modular buildings, but lately I've been more and more enamoured with them. This one may push me over the edge. From the cute doggy story to the sexy castle and pirates callback and the professor from adventurers, this set drips with nostalgia and love for lego's past. I really hope that the past year and this are not just flukes, and that lego really understood there's a market for this as well.
This looks so good! I love all the little touches - the woman feeding birds, the dog with the bone, the flowers growing on the sidewalk - it's all so charming.
Brilliant video, as always Tiago! Really fab to hear the designer talk us through the interior details. I love the Brachiosaurus, maybe a reference to Dippy from the London Natural History Museum
I think it's more likely to be a reference to the huge Brachiosaurus in the natural history museum in Berlin. It's the centerpiece of the dinosaur exhibit right at the entrance, and it's so tall it almost reaches right up to the ceiling of the entire building (the Lego version isn't quite as tall, it just pokes into the second floor) Also, it's actually a brachiosaurus rather than a diplodocus
This is such an amazing set that it makes me sad that I hadn’t collected any other Modulars 😭 I love how we are getting more interaction with the designers for these sets. Makes it feel more personal!
I would have preferred a historic animals section to historic mini-figs.. and I would have loved it if there was a planetarium, but it still looks great.
I’m fond of natural history museum so this is a must have. Also, regarding the color it reminds me the old building of my country’s capital, Bern, which are made with green rocks… and my favourite museum ever is in that city. Perfect circle!
Happy to see Chris McVeigh is a Senior Designer; seems like he made it to that position quite (deservedly) quickly! I still have on display his mini NES that he designed and sold before starting work with Lego.
this is the perfect set for me, except I am not a fan of the olive green... however, knowing that this comes from the same designer who did the Police Station, I am pre-ordering this.
I love the “curator who may or may not be familiar” I loved this set and that just made it the extra bit better. An amazing yet fairly obscure reference to Ninjago I was not expecting
Thanks Tiago! I loved your interview with Chris and learning about all the considerations that went into the design of the set. Chris’s love of story-telling through clever design really shines!
@@Lilf1ip_ having the designer on though does somewhat make it hard to believe he'll give a completely candid review... Outside of Star war sets, the series I absolutely adore and collect are modular buildings. I love the design overall but I'm not sold on the olive green color for this building. With the overall neoclassical design it reminds me too much of the parisian restaurant. Maybe a tan or medium nougat color would look better overall. Either way I will be purchasing and displaying this set!
Not a fan of the olive green either - which is weird because it's one of my favourite lego colours and looks so good on the parisian restaurant. I think I would have preferred a darker natural brick colour like sand red / dark orange or even a dark tan / tan colour.
I'm kinda relieved I am not thrilled with the color for this... Only because it's only thing holding me back from buying it after I've already maxed out my LEGO holiday budget for self this year!
Honestly I think I'm skipping this one. I appreciate the build but there's just something uninteresting about it. Mainly I dislike the interior layout a lot. I would've done many things very differently and somehow I feel like they just went the easiest and most generic route apart from the color.
When I first saw the thumbnail I thought it was gonna be a micro scale set because this doesn't seem like something LEGO would do. I'm glad they did though, this could be my favorite set of all time.
At first I thought it was a model for The American Museum of Natural History, as someone who spent a ton of time there as a kid I'm a bit disappointed. Still an awesome set and great video!
BEAUTIFUL BUILDING ... It reminds me of Town Hall or Fire Brigade -- only much nicer! However, I prefer a build this wide to consist of 3 (or even 4) buildings. Similar to the Police Station, or Assembly Square.
i have only one complaint about this set no whale sketeton whitch is a natural history museum staple. if i get this set i have to improve it by replacing the skylights by domes the one over the space section wil by a planetarian, the one over the skeleton wil be glas whit either a whale skeleton hanging in it or some thin to do whit the minifig history section.
Was really excited for this, turned out cool but also somehow pretty plain and underwhelming. Assembly Square was priced lower and less pieces but somehow feels bigger, more visually interesting, and much more detailed. I feel like with the space they had they could have done a grander layout and much more interesting exhibits, including a few different walls of animals/artifacts behind glass like in real museums. maybe I’ll just try to build my own 😅
It looks good from the outside, but i feel it’s underwhelming inside. There were plenty of walls where more things could have been added. A bug collection, an ancient Egypt room or maybe an aquarium. When i look at it next to Assembly Square it looks boring. A statue instead of that tree outside. I have all of the modulars and will get this one. Hopefully it’s like the corner garage and is better in person.
I love it how lego has progressed from simple castles, to buildings with minifig scale lego sets of those castles. When will lego create minifig scale lego bricks though?
Absolutely beautiful. Hoping to get the police station for christmas this year before it retires, and I’ll probably end up buying this one as a present for myself later in the year. Love the paleontology section and as always great storytelling! Really nice work!
Great looking set and good value. But it looks nothing like the actual Nat History Museum in London? I guess it’s taken ideas from all over and been designed for a global/US market.
curious why olive green was chosen, looks out of place in that lineup of buildings. and was hoping theres a "night at the museum" reference somewhere lol
Awesome set! Definitely worth considering. I only doubt the pottery and the space theme. Statue a la David's Michelangelo would have been more museum-like, I think.
Great looking set, but a few things could be better I think. Why not have the Brachiosaurus in the entrance in the center. And it also looks like it could need some more length and detail, even for a smaller build. The building also looks to slim, would look better if it was deeper. And why pottery??? They like to have different modulars connect to each other, that's probably why they went with pottery because as mentioned, in another set there is a potter, so the intent is to show the pottery from the potter displayed in the natural history museum, connecting the two sets. But I agree, in NATURAL HISTORY museum, showing off new pottery doesn't make much sense. I think your aquarium idea is really cool, they also could have done plants, or just something that connects to the museum better.
Seems quite in keeping with Town Hall. Maybe it’s the very plain back wall that’s giving me that vibe. Anyways, in think it’s a huge improvement on Jazz Club.
I don't really care about the museum aspects but you can easily turn this into another Haunted House. It has a strong resemblance to Disney's Haunted House

Having the Curator be the Doctor from the Adventurers line is a great reference!
Thanks so much! Looked familiar, but I couldn't pinpoint it, but of course!
The storytelling elements in this one really make it for me. Not typically a modular collector but this set might change that!
Story telling? The lazy and obvious hook sticking out of the floor holding up the bone?... not great especially from an employee not a moc'er
