    Very, very useful! First time seriously fishing the big Mississippi this year for walleyes (bank fishing) and have quickly learned that my usual lake setups absolutely do not work. Was out tonight with 1/4 and 3/8oz and with the wind my jigs were basically up to shore by the time my line got tight. Frustrating as all hell. Ordering some 1/2 and 3/4 ouncers tonight!

    Interesting stuff, man. That stiff of current makes it a whole different world. Thanks for sharing!

    This the vid ive been looking for for about 2 years now. Ive been so clueless fishing on the D river. This helped soo much. Can you make a vid more about boat control and the diff wind directions and situations? Im having a hard time on that. I wanna be prepared for this upcoming season.

      Ali. Wind usually determines the direction the bow will be pointing. After you carefully drop your jig to the bottom your line will have a slant or lean. Use your trolling motor to chase your line back to vertical. With a little practice you’ll be a pro in no time. Don’t practice in heavy boat traffic!!!! Have fun. C ya on the river 😃😃🎣🎣🎣

      Looks like Jack summed it up below! I’ll see if I can get a video together about that.
      If you are on the Detroit river, the best place to master this is the smaller stretch of water by the golf course south of the Wyandotte boat launch and BASF. The narrower water is the best protected area on the river from wind gusts. The area is a producer as well 😎.

    Great tutorial. What type of gear bags or boxes do you like to store your jigs, worms, hooks, etc.

      The plain ol Plano does the trick! Be sure to take it inside and dry out the boxes after spring season!
      I keep my plastics in the bag to keep the flavor in.

    When you lift up and release and it doesn’t touch bottom like it has every other time, set the hook! Cuz your right they really like to hit it on the fall! Some of the old timers have master the technique of using a really bright line and seeing the strike in the line rather than feeling it in the rod, it’s amazing lol the way my grandfather always does it

    Social media is causing over crowding at launches and river fishing in Michigan especially the Detroit river on weekends.There are a lot of Walleyes in the system now ,Be nice and respect others...

    What is your recommendation on depth for jigging the SCR

    • @theitchtofish1052
      @theitchtofish1052  ปีที่แล้ว

      18-35 you’ll get them late April through June no problem.
      You can catch them deeper, but in my opinion it’s harder to fish past 40.

    Try taking a small crotchet needle and pull your stinger through the worm up to the jighead hook, tie off and straighten the worm and add a little dot of superglue, this way the stinger hook is fixed to the back of the worm and there is no line visible or to get hung up.. or you can just dig one of the hooks on the treble into the back of the worm for a simple quick fix.. they have plenty of power in their mouth to inhale at least the tail of the bait in any current or any water temp, and the stinger will get em, it’ll feel like a bass strike lol

    We'll be on the St Claire river the end of May 2021for the first time. Any pointers on location to start our drift? Liked the videos!!

    • @theitchtofish1052

      Honestly the end of May will be loaded! Fish early on in the morning 26-35 feet.
      Algonac boat launch, and Marysville boat launch will be extremely productive. We tend to frequent the Marysville area, a little less pressure. Head north out of the boat launch (left out of the launch) about 1/2 a mile, above the condos. You will hit them 👌🏼

    im heading to windsor this week ,am i still on the bite for walleyes? also id like to get cats and
    white perch/bass is there a good location for those? royeaum is good for cats but i think for perch i may need to go further up?

      @@theitchtofish1052 hey just got back from windsor, had a great time unfortunately did not get any wallees but did hit some white perch, rock bass and a white bass but all in all maybe like 11 fish in the ice bucket and it would have been much less had it not been for some nice ppl i met there every time i fished who either helped me by giving me there catch or putting on the proper rig for me, was really hoping to fill the bucket but thankful i get to have a few good meals and my first white bass, next time ill be more ready ,might come again in late summer maybe july or august for cats and perch if they still around

    why only until mid may? then what happens?

    • @theitchtofish1052
      @theitchtofish1052  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question. 2 things happen:
      1. This is the biggest issue, the river becomes teaming with White bass and white perch to spawn. They love eating these jigs before the walleye can get to it. You still can catch them but it does get more difficult.
      2. Walleye that are done spawning begin to migrate back to the lakes. So numbers in general begin to decline
      Mid May to mid June you’ll have better luck in the St Clair river

    Hey man, will paddle tail work well in early spring walleye fishing at Detroit river?

    • @theitchtofish1052
      @theitchtofish1052  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! I’ve caught them on BFish’N tackle’s Puls-Rs as well as Storm 360 search baits.
      I’ve always done best on worm style or minnow style as a rule. But, paddle tails definitely have their days that out fish everyone on the boat.

    Do guys anchor or is everyone drifting and running electrics? I’ve got a 21ft proline and she’s heavy so I’d like to try St Clair river but would rather anchor.

    • @theitchtofish1052
      @theitchtofish1052  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Rob. I’d say 99% of people drift with the current and use a trolling motor.
      I’ve seen some people anchor or spot lock and pitch jigs instead. I’d just do it outside of the pack as to not get in the way of the drifters. Save yourself some dirty looks 😂
