    I just went through hurricane Ida and lost one of my 50 year old cedar trees. Three trunks with the biggest one having a diameter of at least 48in. at 50ft? long. I have to cut it, seal the ends and limb cuts and in 3 years I'll have some beautiful wood to work with. I think red cedar is the prettiest of all woods. Thanks for sharing the info. I've never done this before haha.
    God is good!!!

      Im glad you made it thru the storm! Just an fyi I just cut down an eastern red cedar and milled it the next day. It was not different at all minus bark/surface sap. But I mill fresh due to much research everyone says the best logs are the wet ones... so out of patience I milled fresh pine, oak, then cedar. So now I have plenty of boards ready and now im here! Good luck with your project! And im sorry for the loss of a beautiful tree, I'm glad you and others will still be able to enjoy it for generations to come!

    Excellent video. Ive watched this a couple times over the past few months knowing that I am going to try it on my next cedar project.
    Built my wife a nice little cedar planter. At the finishing stage now. Most exciting part.

    what brand on tung oil are you using?? the finish varies a lot from brand to brand. i learned that some brands don';t even have tung oil in them. while most have a low percentage. thank you in advance for your help

      It’s the one you get a Lowe’s. The brand I believe is Minwax, actually you can see the container at minute 1:22 of the video. I have not used other brands so I can not tell you the difference honestly. Home that helps

    Que piensa? No es aconsejable usar 120 papel entre 40 y 220?

    • @javierortega6217

      Idk, I used it in the inside and it is still as the first day. However I just used 1 coat in the one I installed bc I don’t like it shiny like when you apply 3 coats

    That tung oil finish does not have tung oil in it. It does have varnish in it. While it is beautiful it is not pure tung oil.

      @@javierortega6217 You used a tung oil finish. Is tung oil diluted down with a solvent (and sometimes it has a varnish added). It dries faster, and cures faster harder than 100% tung oil. 100% tung oil needs 2-3 days to dry between coats, is thinner so needs more coats (7-8), and may take a month, or more, to fully cure. Great results are possible with both, and your cedar looks great, but they are different products.

    • @shawnburke7974
      @shawnburke7974 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The product you used contains less than 1% real tung oil. It’s garbage - bunch of toxic solvents and artificial polymers. Real tung oil is expensive and thick, and needs to be mixed 1:1 with mineral spirits

  • @shawnburke7974
    @shawnburke7974 หลายเดือนก่อน

    That crap from Home Depot is fake, and does NOT contain any real Tung Oil - it’s artificial garbage. Real Tung Oil is expensive, and it’s very thick. You wont find it in stores, only online.
