When I bought my first RV I paid cash and was talked into the extended service plan. I sold the RV about six months after I bought it and went to the dealer and ask for a refund ofthe unused portion stating the I no longer owned the RV. Oddly, they did not know what I was talking about. They did their best to side step me. It took three trips and I walked into the finance persons office and sat down and again explained. She did not know what I was talking about even after handing her the contract. I told her that I was not getting up until I received a check. All of a sudden, they knew what I was talking about and after sitting in the person’s office for an hour, received a refund. I wish folks really understood that those plans really are not very valuable.

put $8,000 in the bank when you buy RV without ESP. Use that account when fixing your RV, but only when fixing things the warranty would have ACTUALLY covered. After 5 years you'll have $8,000 in the bank.. plus you didn't pay interest over 5 yrs on that $8,000

That is very true. The best you can do is put money aside for future repairs. What i did is calculate the cost of the major rv appliances and added couple hundred dollars for regular maintenance and replacements of things. Way cheaper than esp and no major items broken due to proper maintenance.

About 2 years ago we bought a used class C motorhome, and I was reluctant to buy an ESP, but I did anyway. I sold the motorhome 9 months later and I applied for a refund. I had paid it off, so they refunded me the prorated amount, and we received a check. Like you said if the RV is not paid, the refund will go to the lending institution that is carrying the loan. A few months later we bought a new class A, and I did not buy any warranty. Thank you Alan for all your videos that help us all.

They tried and tried to sell us one but we didn't go for it. We take care of our trailer and figure if something was going to break it would be in the first year. Well so far so good three years later. We realize that sooner or later something will happen but like Alan said we dont pay interest on something we aren't using. Always good information in your videos Alan. Keep it going thanks.

I have canceled ESP for friends, I now charge because it's harder for some. Thanks for letting people know of the rip off.

Thanks for the video. It's amazing how people buy into things. I did not purchase an ESP for my truck camper and I have never purchased an ESP for any of the vehicles that I've purchased in my life. Do not buy ESP for other things as well.

Giant Recreation in Daytona, FL...the "sister" that owns the dealership refused to let me cancel over a year ago.....it's the Law ? This dealer did a "bait and switch " on us. 2 parked side by side on lot....identical. we saw issues with one...got into other and ask to buy it. They then escorted us back for paperwork and pulled the defective unit on us. then found 4 different VIN numbers in our paperwork. They were so deceptive they financed us on a Class A...our unit was a 21 ft Class C. discovered after we left state all they had done...UNREAL...hubby n I are veterans...we imporvised, overcome and adapted.

What bothers me is that your manufacturers warranty covers a year so the first year of ESP is essentially worthless. And then if you try to cancel after around first year they pro-rate even though it would not have kicked in at all.

Good information, to bad I didn't know this two years ago. You are right RV esp is money lost. Will never buy a ESP again.

I was quoted $2,000 for a 4 year extension esp. new travel trailer toy hauler - has a 12v fridge , small slide , fiberglass walls. Priced around 30k. I would pay $1,500 cash for the esp.

Another issue you have raised is that if you buy the ESP from the dealer and roll it in to the financing so you end up paying two or three times the cost!

I do the same thing on gap insurance . If I refinance my car at a lower interest rate. I will cancel the gap insurance from previous contract. It’s a pain and sometimes they try to give you a hard time . I always get a check back .

Thanks for the information. Will you or have you compared warranty programs? I would like when I purchase a new RV have something to protect my investment against real emergency or very high cost repairs. I agree it is wasteful to use on small issues. Why do manufacturers not offer extending their warranty?

Same experience here. Had a great experience with everyone at the dealership and then finishing the financial paperwork and the finance guy tried to sell all the pro's of getting the different ESPs and fortunately I had seen Alan's and others' videos about these plans plus the potential delays with getting service. Once the guy realized I wasn't biting, his attitude went from friendly to cold instantly. He realized he wasn't getting a big commission for the upsale. He even "misplaced" a membership for a campground program that was part of my sale since it was a new travel trailer. They had to FEDEX me the packet and that took several phone calls. Besides that, I live 3-4 hours away from that dealership and there is a localish one that handles service work for my unit and I have a good relationship with those folks. They just couldn't beat the price I got (and luckily before prices went up big time).

Anyone here ever cancel their ESP with La Mesa RV? I just picked up a Roam in May and I have extended warranties that I think I don't need. I'm getting anxiety over this. Smh😮

Why buy from a dealer, when they specialize in ripping people off? Camping World is a prime example of that. I bought a used Toyota Minii Cruiser RV. Put new timres on it and had the engine gone over with a fine tooth comb. Toyota's run forever. It fits into most parking spaces, and is the perfect size to take to State and National Parks, and comfortable for a single person, couple or small family. Only complaint is that the shower was built for a garden pixie. Other than that, no payments and can easily sell it for what I have into it plus making a profit. I use it for days at the beach, or overnight trips to Casinos, for a good meal, rarely for longer trips, but it is set up for boondocking. I have a Goal Zero Power Pack, which can be charged ahead of time or using solar panels. Gas mileage is great, although it is not a speed demon, it gets the job done, and who needs to go fast when they are retired? And, it will likely still be around when many newer models are nolonger running!

I think the paperwork says I can cancel only within 45 days with a very small $50 fee. Can I cancel it, let's day, after a year?

Those esp's are a joke most of the time. Many of them sell for over $2000. Unless you can haggle them to bring it down to maybe $500. Then maybe it's worth it. I bought a used 2 year old camper and the previous buyer bought an esp for over $2200. I paid $50 to get it transferred to my name but i knew i would never use it. Till now, I've done maintenance that is keeping my rig in decent shape. I calculated cost of what an esp would cover and i can replace many of the things covered way cheaper and no deductible and no dealing with shady service departments.

So what about the people that are going to keep there 100 K R.V. And the regular warranty runs out these R.V. Have a lot of electronics in them and let alone if the fridge goes out you need to remove a slide to replace your residential fridge that’s not cheep plus hydroelectric brakes and jacks all very expensive so I think your analogy may be off a bit you picked a cheep product in the microwave just saying if you have a high end R.V. I think it’s a good idea to have one please reply I would like to here it thanks by the way we do like your insight and we are subscribed

There are some good after market ESPs out there. Alan has talked with one lady out of Florida that offers them. Like anything though, read the contract and fine print because some of them are hinky. Definitely, document everything, keep a maintenance log, keep receipts, and a detailed journal for who you talk to and what was said; keep emails (hardcopy - because computers go down too). I am not a "people person" but I do try to build a relationship with the local dealer that has done service work on my TT and always keep your wits when coming across an issue. Patience and a good demeanor has worked well for me when dealing with folks at shops.
