    It's funny, because the Scherzo used to be one of my least favorite movements of all Beethoven symphonies since most recordings I knew played it so extremely slow which made the frequent repetitions so extremely dull. This is more like it, and suddenly you have actual music. With the faster tempo, the Trio sections actually become these nice contrasting realms where you just behold the world around you before those breathless rides of mad silliness start all over again. Great recording.

    Esecuzione assolutamente straordinaria, tecnicamente ineccepibile, da studiare nei conservatori. C' è un Beethoven irresistibilmente ancora più alto di questo - ad esempio, Furtwangler 1943, Kleiber coi Wiener - ma questa di Haitink è semplicemente esemplare sotto il profilo tecnico.
