Australia is larger than Europe, and as in that continent , weapons varied throughout the land. The spears of the Aboriginal people of North Queensland were made of different materials from those of Southern Victoria over 3000 Kilometres away, and both differed from those of the Central Desert people another 2000+ Km away from both due to the difference of available materials. In the north the use of canes and reed was much more prevalent; in the south spears were split out of the trunks of tall straight eucalyptus trees and in the desert the roots of the sandhill wattle were straightened in the heat of small fires. Consequently there may have been some difference in techniques and styles of spear throwers?

This makes me wonder how far i could throw one of them since I can throw a 800g javelin 68 meters

What 68 metres? That's not too good

    • @youngchild9294

      @@mckinleymac3452 should be 69m

hunting is usually not about large distances. throwing a spear 69m by hand is pretty good. don't compare to modern athlets. very different purpose. A aimed throw while hunting would normally happen at less then 10 m.

In the museum where I work we quote scources for middle european spear throwers from the stone age. they say with the average thrower length of 60-80 cm and spears with a length of 1,8 to 2,1m a trained person can reach distances of up to 130m. I reached 80 m with a 60 cm thrower and 2m spear. I'm not the body builder type and certainly can't throw a broom stick further than 20m.

That's about the closest we will get to seeing an Aboriginal man spearing a Diprotodon, Giant kangaroo, or a Genyornis. Red Kangaroos and Emus were around then but not as wide spread as they are today. I've had both Kangaroo and Emu before and the meat is tasty. Emu is like a sirloin steak and Kangaroo is like lean beef both meats are worth trying. Though if your a fan of Steak go for the Emu.

Never tried emu but i find Kangaroo a little rubbery and gamey, but i know plenty of people who love it.

no wonder the Brits just waltzed in

These tools sufficed to create a way of life harmonious with the landscape, hunting only as required with resources abundant. The Europeans introduced capitalism, and now folks have to work a 9 hour shift every day in a job they hate to buy Chinese imported goods or go hungry. The Brits waltzed in because they were acclimatised to the shit storm they created, and modified the environment to be un-useable.
