Just because there could be monsters in the dark doesn't mean someone want's to know for certain.

To trick the audience... and also because Morty's greatest fear is being replaced, so the hole replaced him with Diane.
@@fxzero666 that makes no sense. "To trick the audience" that's just terrible writing. Because the writers themselves can't give a possible explanation. Ya ik that's Mortys fear, but rick and Diane had a couple of moments where Morty was never in the scene, so it makes no sense for that scene to even be happening, its like 2 AI's conversion for no reason without being told to talk to each other, it makes no sense
