    you say 2mg/litre
    for 70 gallons thats (70x4.5=315 litres based on uk gallons) or 280 US litres based on US gallons.
    So in uk 2mg x 315 = 730mg or 0.730g
    Or US 2mg x 280 = 560mg or 0.560g
    Where did you get 0.266g? That would be 0.95mg/litre (based on 4litres = US gallons)????

    i wanted to do a 4 hour bath treatment on Pterophyllum Rio Nanay, with 2 mg/l in a bare bottom tank with no filtration (i took the air spongefilter out), but the PP was turning brown after 10 minutes. I added PP to a higher concentration, but again 15 minutes and the colour of the tank was brown again. There were no real other organics in the tank which could react with the PP. I don't understand it. The PP was bought in a pharmacia one day ago.

      I did this treatment on my discus and just 30 minutes was sufficient as the colour turned brown.. I do not know why 4 hours

    0.95mg/litre would make more sense at 1ppm dosage is recommended - so you dosed at 0.95ppm not at 2mg.litre (2ppm) which could be lethal or the fry in a four hour bath.
    Just thought i'd point it out in case someone doses their fry at double the amount.

      sorry, i misspoke in the video i think. i use half the dose for fry. for normal circumstances i would do 2mg/L so your math is correct. I will take this video down and repost as to avoid any confusion. Thank you for bringing this to my attention!

    Don’t understand one thing, if the color became brown in short time we should add more pp in the same time or we should wait a day and try again with same dosage?

      then you can either add more PP at a lower doseage, or you can do a big water change or neutralize the PP with hydrogen peroxide or Seachem Prime

    Very informative video, great work!! Does the PP kill of your beneficial bacteria on your filters? I have a cycled tank and im adding a bunch of 4 week old fry into it tomorrow that i bought from a breeder, am thinking to do a pp bath for them as ive heard of 4 week old syndrome for fry, i have a canister filter, somebody said to switch the filter off during treatment but then you could have flukes left in the filter right?any advice appreciated, keep up the good work

      best way to prevent 1mo / 4w sysndrome is lots of water changes for that first month.... tbh I don't even use a filter on my tanks for the first month usually because I'm changing enough water, and if I do its a small sponge. If you're going to PP you might as well remove filter media, run the tank through a PP treatment with empty canister so that the PP cycles thru the empty canister and piping, then if you want put back filter media in but make sure it is new or sterilized via hot water bath or something.

      @@GVBDiscus thx for the reply, I did a pp treatment for 4 hours yesterday with filter media in, then after water change added nutrifin cycle, have been doing 75% water change daily and adding cycle to build up good bacteria, so far so good, I have 12 baby discuss in a 55 gallon which has a partition in it to keep the fry together, as they grow I will move partition

    Will this kill good bacteria in the canister filter ?

    • @benaqua10
      @benaqua10 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is kill harmful bacteria so never keep any filtration or sponge in tank during treatment.. I have recently done a simple pp treatment video

    IF I can advise something. You underdose your PP. your dose for 70gallons should be approx 0.65 mg, not 0.28. This amount of treatment should be done once a day for a week. Good luck

    Best and quickest way to **INSTANTLY** neutralize PP is with hydrogen peroxide.

    I'm glad this is old. A 4 hour bath in it should kill them. Check out jack Wattley Discus folks. The PP color change tells you when the PP is done.

      you used the word “should”, meaning you either dont know or havent tried, and i have done it many times and they dont die. so maybe dont comment on things you dont understand, or just listen to your buddy Gabe who’s setup is much different than a single tank PP treatment and see how that works out for ya, best of luck… to your fish

    I have killed fish using hydrogen peroxide. Not safe to use with the fish in the tank.

      Perfectly safe if you don't overdose like you did.

      .32 gram as Mr D explained in a 5 gallon bucket. It's less complicated than trying for a bath for 4 hrs ( 2 mg/ Litre or .076 gram per 20 gallon for adult discus/ 0.95 mg for fry.

    This so helpful, I understand I need to treat the fish. But I worry that my technique is wrong

      read /watch as much as you can. try to keep a light pink coloration. if water turns brown/red quickly then do a big water change and try again

    The brown means it's finished working. DO NOT ADD MORE!

    • @GVBDiscus
      @GVBDiscus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the brown means amount of PP used was exhausted, it does not mean that it has “finished working” and there’s no need to add more, please just stop, you clearly have no idea what youre talking about
