When you do Anette songs make sure you do official videos. If you want to hear Marco really angry you need to listen Master Passion Greed. It is really bad ass!
The performance Marco pulled off in Master Passion Creed is imo the best singing performance in the whole Nightwish discography. No disrespect to the ladies but the emotion in Marcos performance is real. The song also has one of my favorite intros ever.

I will never forget: it was my very first Nightwish concert in 2012 (9 days before the split with Anette), I had a regular ticket but was there hours early and made friends with the other first people there. When they split the line into general and VIP one of the people I had been talking to offered me his second VIP ticket because his daughter wasn't able to make it, so I got to be in the front of the VIP line (long unnecessary intro) When we heard the band doing sound checks, we slightly opened the venue door to hear better and heard them perform Rest Calm in full as a warmup...only time I've heard it live

This is exactly a diss track to Tarja. There's another track too called "Master Passion Greed". It's the true anger song towards Tarja's husband who was her manager and brainwashed Tarja to be a diva who wanted special treatment. He thought the band was just a background for the true star Tarja and demanded her to have much more benefits than the rest of the band. It was too much for the guys so the break up was inevitable.

Anette case wasn't nearly as big drama. There's no songs about her, no open letters, I don't think there's too much bad blood between them. She just basically jumped in too big boots, starting on with huge tours as a nobody and getting much abuse from Tarja fans who hated her. That made her depressed and she was sick all time, problems with her voice etc. She wanted to cancel tour or at least some shows. The band was faced a decision, cancel tour or get a new singer. They chose the latter and brought in Floor mid-tour. Watch the Nightwish document "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours", it's all there.
Marlon YES. Tarja's husband was trying to say Tarja should get most of the money and that the band would be nothing without Tarja. I love NIGHTWISH with Tarja but it was an initial agreement within the band that all members get paid Equality despite the fact Tuomas wrote the vast majority of the music and Tarja contributed the least to the songwriting. She stopped attending half of the rehearsals. I would feel so backstabbed and betrayed that I would kick her and her manager out of the band too.

Nightwish - For the Heart I Once Had If you want to hear a song that really fits with Anette really well and highlights her voice, I think this is the one. Not amongst my favourites, but I feel like she is in her element and I don't feel like Tarja or Floor could sing it better.

Floor fans sure think Anette is between two demigoddesses, I don't. Anette was clearly more succesful than Floor has been, her albums sold more (DPP sold 5 x platinums by 2010) than Floor's and her videos are most watched in TH-cam and her single (Amaranth) is then most selling Nighwish single. I think Anette got hate because she was different style than Tarja (nobody even knew about Floor at this point). Currently most zealous fanbois watching Nightwish videos are rather fans of Floors than Tarja's, most Tarja fanbois have left NW videos well over a decade ago, and it's those Floor fans that are mostly attacking Anette now.
Great song, Marco really makes it shine. It's the only one that gets regular repeated plays from me. It may be more mainstream sounding, but who cares. And as others have said, check out Master Passion Greed, it's heavy and intense and got me interested in Nightwish more.

He gave Anette one of Nightwish era's best songs, her two albums are amazing. That is a very good interpretation from you, this song most have been written of anger. Pia Lindqvist Even though my favourite Nightwish singer is Floor, Annette will always have a special place for me because Imaginearum is my favourite Nightwish album and the album that introduced me to the band. I fell in love with Nightwish and their music. I enjoy listening to Tarja, Annette and Floor but I never really understood the amount of hate Annette had.

As others have said check out master passion greed if you like angry Marco lol. Although I'd like to point out that Marco wasn't in Nightwish since the beginning as you said in the video. As to which video with Annette you should check next I'd recommend Storytime
Dark Passion Play is their best album. Anette isn't their best singer technically, but she has the best songs. You should try Amaranth (It has a music video), it's a very similar song to this one except it's more famous and has more things for Anette to sing. You should really check out Sahara too as it's just an absolutely awesome song (It's perhaps a bit less catchy than this one but it's definitely more epic and complex and, IMO, it's also better).
Probably not the best choice of song, very radio friendly though it's a nice sing along song :) I'd recommend Turn Loose the Mermaid or Scaretale for a better example of Anette's abilities, I'm sure you'll both love it. Have fun guys ! French cheers to you :)

This entire album is very good, and definitely worth listening to. It gets quite heavy in many places and is also very dark. There's a reason Tuomas describes this album in interviews as "the album that saved [his] life." As others have said already, you'd probably quite like Master Passion Greed from the same album. It'd be another studio version, because you'll never hear them play it live, but it is very good, and is also all Marco on the vocals, which is always nice. Anette Olzon doing Song of Myself demonstrates how her belting grew in nuance in the five years she was in the band, but I also think that Eva showcases the best parts of her voice: her soulfulness and her clear head voice. If you want a Nightwish song that has only Marco's voice, Master Passion Greed. It's another diss track.

Sad truth is that as badass as this song is, they will never perform it live again. :( Understandably so but this would be perfect live song and it would also be cool to see Floor sing this.
If you like Marco's vocals and the heaviness of this song you should check out Master Passion Greed from this same album "Dark Passion Play". Even though Floor has been my favorite female vocalist for long before she joined Nightwish, Dark Passion Play is still by far my favorite Nightwish album.
Your interpretation of the song is almost spot on, however the band openly admitted that this is about Tarja. As many people here have mentioned, you should listen to Master Passion Greed which is about Tarja's husband, who according to the band was the real "villain". Now that is a diss song...It's great though! Probably the heaviest Nightwish song ever. By the way, Tarja also did a song about her being fired from the band - it's called I walk alone. Then to other things, wanna discover a new symphonic metal band from Finland? Then react to Dark Sarah - Evil Roots or Aquarium. They are really talented and the singer Heidi Parviainen has probably the most beautiful classically trained voice in metal. They deserve so much more appreciation! You are 100% correct about this being a song bashing Tarja. Master Passion Greed is also about Tarja. Check it out. This album, Dark Passion Play was mostly written before Annette was a band member. To hear her really shine, listen to Imaginaerum, written with Annette in mind. A great example of what she can do is Scaretale. Or for a softer song, The Crow, The Owl, and the Dove is a beautiful track!

Yeah this song is actually full of anger (not the angriest though, in the whole album Master Passion Greed is literally a big F.You to tarja’s husband and I guess in some way to her as well) check the whole album, I think is one of the best albums in their history. I have been a fan of the band since the year 2000 and dude, I have never heard Tuomas (through his writing) so hurt and so angry and even petty than in this album. Musically is an absolute jewel.
Hi guys. Great reaction. Just one nitpick. Marco hasn't been in the band from the beginning. He replaced Sami Vänskä on bass in 2002. Try out their cover version of "Walking In The Air" from their 2nd album "Oceanborn" from 1998 to see a different side to the group pre-Marco. There's a pretty good live show featuring that too.
This is indeed a song about Tarja. The other girls appeared as a joke. They wanted to make everyone to believe that the entire was replaced and now is a band with only female members. Those girls have no musical education at all, the band spent a day before filming the clip to teach them how to act like they have a bit of an idea about what they are doing. The music video of Storytime and the official live of scaretale are very good songs with Annette. The poet and the pendulum and song of myself are some of their best songs, though maybe not the best choice for a video, since there is no music video and the live versions are shorted.

I believe it deserves much more attention and I think the song will take you on a musical journey that you will enjoy very much - you won't regret it.
The orchestrations of Nightwish are so unique. It feels like many try to replicate it, but are no match to Holopainen's mastermind. But how about some more Finntroll? You made a reaction to Solsagan, but that was quite a while ago and they have a lot more to offer.
If you like Marco's voice then you should really check band named Tarot. I bought their vinyl in mid 80's and I was sold. They were Finnish heavy metal pioneers and band were active 'till fall 2016 when their drummer past away.

For Nightwish there are a few songs that I think fit each singer the best. For Annette at her best look for Storytime. Phantom of the Opera is Tarja hands down. Greatest Show on Earth is Floor. There are several others that also go best with each but the best thing about the group is that there are some songs that actually have very good versions from multiple singers and you can respect each singers' version of the song. That doesn't stop the debate about which singer is the best but I think if you just sit back and enjoy each one for what they offer it just makes the entire collection that much more enjoyable.

I think Anette got hate because she was different style than Tarja (nobody even knew about Floor at this point). Currently most zealous fanbois watching Nightwish videos are rather fans of Floors than Tarja's, most Tarja fanbois have left NW videos well over a decade ago, and it's those Floor fans that are mostly attacking Anette now.

Great song, Marco really makes it shine. It's the only one that gets regular repeated plays from me. It may be more mainstream sounding, but who cares.
And as others have said, check out Master Passion Greed, it's heavy and intense and got me interested in Nightwish more.
Tuomas Holopainen reveals his emotions and inner feelings through his music and lyrics, and we can be so thankfull to him for that. He gave Anette one of Nightwish era's best songs, her two albums are amazing. That is a very good interpretation from you, this song most have been written of anger. Sadly you will not hear this live anymore! Hope you had a great holiday in Portugal. Listen to Eva with Anette, it doesn't get any more beautiful than that.

Refreshing to see your thoughts on her period too... a lot of the Nightwish fans I know say Anette was a fluke... but honestly some of Nightwish's best songs come from that period.

Even though my favourite Nightwish singer is Floor, Annette will always have a special place for me because Imaginearum is my favourite Nightwish album and the album that introduced me to the band.
I fell in love with Nightwish and their music.
I enjoy listening to Tarja, Annette and Floor but I never really understood the amount of hate Annette had.

Dark Passion Play is their best album. Anette isn't their best singer technically, but she has the best songs.
You should try Amaranth (It has a music video), it's a very similar song to this one except it's more famous and has more things for Anette to sing. You should really check out Sahara too as it's just an absolutely awesome song (It's perhaps a bit less catchy than this one but it's definitely more epic and complex and, IMO, it's also better).

A couple good Anette songs are Storytime and Amaranth. For a great Marco song, you could check out The Islander if you haven't already.
"The Islander" is what brought me back to Nightwish...being in the US, before then all I'd ever heard was "Nemo" and then they were gone from the charts here. Yay for streaming music to bring them back into my life :)

This entire album is very good, and definitely worth listening to. It gets quite heavy in many places and is also very dark. There's a reason Tuomas describes this album in interviews as "the album that saved [his] life." As others have said already, you'd probably quite like Master Passion Greed from the same album. It'd be another studio version, because you'll never hear them play it live, but it is very good, and is also all Marco on the vocals, which is always nice.

Anette Olzon doing Song of Myself demonstrates how her belting grew in nuance in the five years she was in the band, but I also think that Eva showcases the best parts of her voice: her soulfulness and her clear head voice.

Everyone is recommending Master Passion Greed, and it is a fantastic song, so I too recommend it! It doesn't have a video of any sort, though. It might be one of those ones you end up having to enjoy on your own :O

Your interpretation of the song is almost spot on, however the band openly admitted that this is about Tarja. As many people here have mentioned, you should listen to Master Passion Greed which is about Tarja's husband, who according to the band was the real "villain". Now that is a diss song...It's great though! Probably the heaviest Nightwish song ever.
By the way, Tarja also did a song about her being fired from the band - it's called I walk alone.
Then to other things, wanna discover a new symphonic metal band from Finland? Then react to Dark Sarah - Evil Roots or Aquarium. They are really talented and the singer Heidi Parviainen has probably the most beautiful classically trained voice in metal. They deserve so much more appreciation!
Also, are you familiar with a Swedish band called Amaranthe? I would describe their music as dance metal. Not usually my cup of tea, but their new single 365 is great, you should react to that!

This album, Dark Passion Play was mostly written before Annette was a band member. To hear her really shine, listen to Imaginaerum, written with Annette in mind. A great example of what she can do is Scaretale. Or for a softer song, The Crow, The Owl, and the Dove is a beautiful track!

Yeah this song is actually full of anger (not the angriest though, in the whole album Master Passion Greed is literally a big F.You to tarja’s husband and I guess in some way to her as well) check the whole album, I think is one of the best albums in their history. I have been a fan of the band since the year 2000 and dude, I have never heard Tuomas (through his writing) so hurt and so angry and even petty than in this album. Musically is an absolute jewel.

Hi guys. Great reaction. Just one nitpick. Marco hasn't been in the band from the beginning. He replaced Sami Vänskä on bass in 2002. Try out their cover version of "Walking In The Air" from their 2nd album "Oceanborn" from 1998 to see a different side to the group pre-Marco. There's a pretty good live show featuring that too.
Well from a person who doesn't know the history of the band so well, you felt the song meaning on the point.
This is indeed a song about Tarja. The other girls appeared as a joke. They wanted to make everyone to believe that the entire was replaced and now is a band with only female members. Those girls have no musical education at all, the band spent a day before filming the clip to teach them how to act like they have a bit of an idea about what they are doing.

As for Anette songs, there are Amaranth, Poet and the Pendulum and Story Time which have their own music video and Anette is the only vocalist, then there is Scaretale, it has both Marco and Anette and there is only an unofficial video. The orchestrations of Nightwish are so unique. It feels like many try to replicate it, but are no match to Holopainen's mastermind.

If you like Marco's voice then you should really check band named Tarot. I bought their vinyl in mid 80's and I was sold. They were Finnish heavy metal pioneers and band were active 'till fall 2016 when their drummer past away.

For Nightwish there are a few songs that I think fit each singer the best. For Annette at her best look for Storytime. Phantom of the Opera is Tarja hands down. Greatest Show on Earth is Floor. There are several others that also go best with each but the best thing about the group is that there are some songs that actually have very good versions from multiple singers and you can respect each singers' version of the song. That doesn't stop the debate about which singer is the best but I think if you just sit back and enjoy each one for what they offer it just makes the entire collection that much more enjoyable.
