      @@AquariumCoop Yes, I have seen your deep analyses of the TH-cam issues from time to time. My guess is that they (Google/YT) see us as data points to be maximized by whatever means that seem to work (such as Shorts) even if it's only a worthless illusion.
      Ironically, one of the uglier results of that blind click measurement has been the infestation of the YT fish keeping hobby by a lot of nasty copycat channels geared towards click bait nonsense and using fish and other pets as disposable victims in tragedy thumbnails and childish stunts for views. How long before advertisers get wise that it's all bad for their business?
      Keep on fighting the good fight, Cory.

    YO! I have had experience with the stress ich with my panda Corydoras. It only hit my Corydoras both pandas an julli. The fry an juvies died as well as a Pygmy. A betta a feather fin squeaker and a super red pleco we’re all fine. I treated it with Pimafix. I dosed it very aggressive an daily for over a week the patches fell off in days. If you stop treating or treat lighter it will come back though so I used alot of the bottle. An the colony survived haven’t seen it in over a year now.

    Cory, you mentioned getting birds coming around to your feeders.
    There is a great App by The Cornel Lab of Ornithology for bird watching etc.
    It's called Merlin and you can ID birds by their call. I'll leave my phone outside near the feeder for 15 minutes and come back to see all the different species it picked up on.
    Kinda fun.

    QUESTION: I have very hard tap water - I do use a conditioner to remove chlorine etc. but water stays fairly hard as my fish breeds are all suited to hard water conditions... All my aquariums use gravel only & are fully planted with root feeding plants. All are fairly fully stocked. I use plant tabs only and not very often= I am finding that the hard water and fish waste, for the most part, are sustaining my plants (sure they don't "flourish" but do grow -slowly) to the point that I can move the new growth to other locations or other tanks... I have only had one fish ever die and that was due to stress (small young female & large aggressive older male)
    I have also never had an issue with each tank having the same conditions (test strips are identical even though people tell me that is near impossible) to the point that I have never had issues moving fish from tank to tank as they spawn (trying to keep male to female ratios comfortable for them).
    I would like to hear your thoughts on how well fish waste, in hard water, can sustain plants without (or with very little) fertilizer dosing (and only gravel for substrate)
    I moved to a new apartment, set up and no real issues (as above info) for a year. (with new fry on a monthly basis)
    Am I dreaming, or do I have a lucky horseshoe ? (seems too good to be true)
    Anyway = just wondering (and would greatly appreciate) your thoughts on this.
    THANX !

    • @AquariumCoop
      @AquariumCoop  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say you've probably just been lucky. All plants and fish could thrive in your tapwater. Go to a local river and you'll see local fish and plants thriving. The problems happen when you mix different fish and plants in different waters. It's hard to determine a full picture from a comment. Some people are proud their fish lived 3 years when it's species that should like 30+ years. They just don't know it. They may be happy their plant is green, when when it's happy it's actually red. All that really matters is, if you're happy. Great, keep enjoying the hobby!

    Hey Cory, very nice content. A small question to you maybe you can give me an advise.
    I have 5 fancy goldfish and 2 common black goldfish and 1 week ago they started getting some white spots on their fins. It's not Ich, I found out it's a fungal disease because it's only on the wings and one of the common goldfish has a white spot on the lower lip to the mouth.
    After visiting the local pet store to get some advice, they recommended to do a 50% water change, and start a saltwater treatment and also add Omnipur A from SERA (has Malachite Green).
    On Wednesday, it seemed that the disease started to go back, but today I noticed that other white spots appeared one of the fins of the fish, and in the places where it had white spots from the fungus, now it has turned to brown/black in that place. Any idea what to do.
    I really want to save these little guys :(

    I missed the stream but i've got a question for ya. I have a 26 gallon bow front tank, its well live-planted and has a sponge filter meant for a tank more than double its size, it has about 10 otocinclus ( they've been breeding ) 8 chili rasboras and a betta. Would it be ok to add 6 more chili rasboras? or is that too much? I would love to have a bigger school, and perhabs breed them but i'm not sure if the tank is suitable for that many fish even tho its got a lot of filter media. I could always move some of the otos but they love that tank haha.

    • @ExoticBoxofWater

    • @StarlightBettas

    • @TheVulcanBard
      @TheVulcanBard ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My 2 cents is that it depends on what your current nitrate levels are and how often you want to change water. If you dont want to change water more often, dont get more fish. If you dont mind changing water a bit more often, get more. I'm sure your current school would enjoy more friends.

    • @StarlightBettas
      @StarlightBettas ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheVulcanBard i'm not really worried about the nitrates or water quality, i'm more so wondering if its enough physical space without feeling too cramped. the otos make good use of all the coverage between the plants, rocks and sponge filter, but would 14 chili rasboras feel comfortable in a 26 gallon bow front space wise, since its not a long tank and i know schooling fish typically prefer that.
      currently i usually see 6 or 7 of them at once, often split into two groups that occasionally merge into one, seems there's always 1 that's not with the group like 80% of the time but comes out every so often so i know they're all in there, probably not the same fish every time either. i feel like adding more would make them school better instead of dispersing so much, i just don't want to fill too much space. Ive had these guys several months, doesn't seem like a stress thing, they color up super well too especially when i feed micro worms lol

    • @TheVulcanBard
      @TheVulcanBard ปีที่แล้ว +1
