  • I don’t know why, but when people look at gears and call them cogs it winds me up.
This short 1-minute video does two things:
1… I explain the difference between a gear and a cog.
2… I get rid of some built up frustration!

I never thought an explanation of cogs and gears would be this aggressive XD. I fully support you Englishman

Hello Blaney1014. Thank you for your comment.
Its a funny thing, I'm not normally an aggressive sort of chap but, for some reason when people especially them who should know better, call a gear a cog it makes me see red! I can feel it bubbling under the surface as I type this!

Thank you British person for enlightening us with knowledge we have forgotten across the water. Everything I found was just saying the teeth on gears were cogs.

Hello Copper Skull Guy. Thank you for your comment. I don't know why calling a gear a cog annoys me so much. When I hear people who really should know better calling a gear a cog I feel embarrassed for them. It's a funny old world! Take Care Jim

Right, right, but surely, we can use the word Sprocket interchangeably.

Hello bananafone. Yes your OK with sprocket, but remember it can be called a chain wheel as well!
In an old watch or clock they have chains transmitting power but no sprockets or chain wheels there, they use a fusee its like a down hill spiral with no teeth!
Thank you for your comment Take Care Jim
