Mushandike was where the senior year from the primary schools used to go for a week to learn about conservation. I went in about 1974 and it was the best school trip ever. The rangers included Warden Ron Thomson who years earlier had been involved in the rescue of rhinos and relocation into national parks. While we were there a young hippo had died and we were allowed to watch the autopsy as the National Parks & Wildlife vet tried to figure out why it had died. We went on long walks in the bush and camped out for a night or two. I remember having to collect firewood as we were instructed to collect a pile "taller than a landrover". Anyone who got up in the night had to put another log on the campfire to keep the wild animals away. We had to follow spoor and pick up scat to try to work out what the animals had been eating. A great adventure for young kids, I hope that they continue to run these today.
I did a week long school camp there in 1972. Totally agree that it was the best school trip ever! I still sometimes relay my experiences from that week, times I will never forget.
Thank you so much John for sharing those awesome memories. Unfortunately Im not sure many of the youth of today experience those sorts of adventures which is a real shame. Such great memories for you.
Thank you for watching and commenting again.
Amazing that these "short" experiences, like Johns above too, while we were young, made such an impact on our lives. Great memories and something I wish the youngsters of today could experience. Thank you for watching and commenting and sharing your memory.
i was there last week for fishing
@@madodanathulani3744 awesome. Sorry I couldn’t make it 😂

Bruce Bruce Bruce.... wonderful episode. My favourite shot was at 17:34 mins when the kids were waving at you from a distant, found myself just smiling froppm the Chasing Smiles work. I am Zimbabwean and I envy you my brother you have visited almost all the places that are on my bucket list. Love your humor aswell
thank you very much. Those kids were so happy with the ball and pump. I just love seeing the children's reactions and how they walk away after I give them a ball and pump. It's a privilege for me to be able to do this. Wish I could do it more.
Thank you for watching and commenting.
It's innocence....of those children

Bruce, I am so jealous!! A little homesick too, seeing the truly stunning bush and friendly local people. What a surprise with those dino tracks! The benefit of a good local guides to get you there and out safely. Amazing the good condition of the small roads and tracks in really out of the way places. Thank you Bruce. It’s so refreshing to see the lesser known places of a country. So interesting thank you.
its a pleasure . There are so many "lesser known places" but that's what makes it exciting also. I was very surprised how many people I spoke to while in Zim didnt know where Kanyemba was. thank you for watching and commenting
Home sweet home. Thank you Bruce. I am from Masvingo Ngundu to he specific. Residing in the UK for the past 25yrs. Your video motivated me to be back to my roots. Time to think. Thanks Bruce 😮😮
It’s a pleasure. Thank you for watching. All the best with your plans

Thanks Bruce, wonderful video. Just what I needed whilst feeling homesick for Zim. Love your channel!
You are welcome. Sounds like you need to visit us in Southern Africa. Thank you so much for the compliment, for watching and also for taking the time to comment.
This was a brilliant journey. Mushandike was my introduction to conservation in 1972, on a school camp. Many memories were made in the park. My late dad went to Kanyemba in the mid 60’s, before the area became a ‘hot spot’.
Thank you for always showcasing the best of Zimbabwe. I love your videos and they always leave me feeling proud to be a Zimbabwean. I also get very homesick after watching too!
Safe travels and look forward to the next adventure.
Kind regards.
Thank you so much. Sorry to make you homesick :) but you should visit. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Truly worth the wait... I really owe it to myself to travel around our beloved Zimbabwe thank Bruce keep up the good work
Thank you very much. Yes and what's really nice is you dont need a big tough 4x4 to visit most of the places. Thank you for watching and commenting
Good Evening 😊 Awesome video 👏🏼 Epic Adventure👌🏽 Greetings from Limpopo Province 🇿🇦
Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed it
This is such a brilliant adventure.
Absolutely agree. More people need to visit the region.

As much as I am here for the adventure. I really appriciate good music. I had to Shazam Ice & Fire, amazing song.
I love that song. Also used it in two of my other episodes.

Incredible posting, incredible scenery and well commented Bruce.
Thank you. Thanks for watching Dad.
Great video. For once my fiancé didn’t cry watching your videos. They seem to always remind her of home. Especially Victoria falls and Bulawayo
haha shame man. Im glad I didnt make her cry this time. All the best and thank you for watching and commenting.
Vist uganda 🇺🇬 as well you will love everthing. I loved your content
Hopefully one day. Thank you for watching
Very interesting route through the Zambezi valley. It's definitely another trip in the future.
Absolutely. I think it would be a great route for people "overlanding" through Zimbabwe. We all tend to focus on the big popular spots and miss out on so many of the lesser known gems.
Thank you for watching and commenting again.
Awesome video. Bit of history and paleontology was a bonus.
Thank you and thank you for watching
What a beautiful country and friendly local people. Thank you for taking the time to make and share the experience. 57:07
its a pleasure and you are correct its an amazing country and people. Thank you for watching and commenting
Some awesome places I never knew existed in my country. Thank you Bruce for putting my country on the world map and for those kids you gave some form intertainment with the soccer balls. I always love that part of your adventures. Keep up the good work❤
its a pleasure and thank you for watching and complimenting. Yes the little children's reactions are priceless every time.
Cleveland dam. We went there as scouts often for the canoe. Zim was something else that time. Eish you bring good memories for me. The early 90s were the best
Thank you. Very happy you enjoyed it and it sparked some memories. Thank you for watching
Greetings! I spent my 9th birthday at Brian's home in Inyanga in 1972. I know Ross very well. Brian was so good to us when we visited. He tok us to Pungwe Gorge and was an inspiration for me as a young writer.Brian worked my father JohnMartens in the NatalParks Board later. What a magnificent country!
Hi Craig. Wow how amazing is that. I was born in 1972 and was the eldest/first grandson. Thank you so much for watching and sharing a memory.
Thank you for this episode,i was actually on the edge of my seat. Tell you what,i thought i had seem Zimbabwe but this episode was just amazing, wow. maybe one day i will see a land rover labelled 'overlanding with Bruce'. Thanks again
Thank you so much. There are so many hidden gems and I hope these types of videos inspire people to go and visit them.
Thank you for watching and commenting
What an amazing trip, beautiful zim
it was but so is every trip to Zimbabwe. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Truly amazing as usual. Sad to say that although born in Hwange and then lived in Bulawayo in my younger days, we never travelled the country, apart from nearby Matopos. Always holidayed down to South Africa. Hence your videos really show what we missed out on. Brilliant video and so knowledgeable.
Thank you so much. It's never too late to start. I know when I was a kid growing up in Zim it was always more exciting to go "down South" rather than travel in Zim and I think a lot of people thought like this. I suppose it's because we "lived in the bush" with even Harare at the time having a small town feel so it was exciting to go to the big modern city and beeches in SA.
Thank you for watching and commenting.
Love this country
Wow @Bruce, awesome episode, loved it. Very informative, great pics and music. Well done, best one yet! ❤
Thanks so much and thanks for watching xx

Great production Bruce. Glad you enjoyed. See you jext time.
Hi Kelvin. Thanks so much mate. I hope you are well. All the best to everyone there
Have you ever been to the Tuli Circle. Went there a few times in the early 80's spectacular place.
Thanks for sharing your adventures, making me very homesick for Africa, particularly Zimbabwe.
Not on the Zim side Scott but I do plan a trip there soon as it's a very interesting story of how that area was "formed". Thank you very much for watching and commenting. You should come visit.
Thanks Bruce, once again you've caught it magnificently. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this and can only say it was too short. I could smell the tracks, the dust and the river. And the rum.
Haha thank you so much Brian. Really happy to see you enjoyed it.
Thank you for supporting and commenting
Hi Bruce, yet another great video! I just want to say, it is so nice to see that there are still overlanders that are showing us new places. I am so tired of Botswana and Kruger National Park videos. There is so much more to see than those two places. Every time you show me a bit more of Zim it makes me oh so keen to go with my Jimny! And by the way, your cinematography is getting pretty darn perfect! Well done! When are we having another get together like we did at Rietvlei? Keen to catch up again :)
Thanks so much. I agree but I think the unknown scares some people and some people just love Bots and Kruger and that's ok. I do think that you will start seeing more done on Zimbabwe as I know many people have now started to go there more.
Yes we need another GTG soon.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
When you crossed the main bridge from mushumbi shops to kwasuoguru on you right as you wer on the bridge is a big white house…i lived in the house fro 1986/7 to 1995
wow what are the chances? Has it changed much since you lived there?
@@OverlandingwithBruce sadly from the roads and the some snippets of bridges and buildings i would say its changed for the worst not better🥲
I’m sorry to hear that
watched to the end and enjoyed thanks bruce

That was an inspiration to dust off my car for a ZW trip. Thanks Bruce
Just do it. You won’t be disappointed.

Thanks for this video. Brought back memories of a canoe trip I did, also in the 1980s, from Mana to Kanyemba. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video. I note that you earlier fears about your Defender are all forgotten. Great
It’s a pleasure Geoff. I am sure not much has changed along the river as a lot of it is still so wild. Absolute paradise.
Thank you for watching and I’m so pleas d you enjoyed it.
I cannot imagine a better car for the job. Great video!
Thank you and thank you for watching
Bruce i wish i would be part of your adventures when you come to Zimbabwe
Thank you 😂🙏
Excellent video👍 you really highlight areas within Zimbabwe for others to visit. Overlanding videos are not always about which vehicle you drive or your new torch albeit there is a place for that. Great video👍
Thanks very much. My channel is about trying to inspire people to visit areas and places they would never have guessed existed so hopefully I am achieving that. And you exactly right it doesn’t matter what you drive or what products you are sponsored/use. Thank you for watching and commenting
I really enjoyed this one I grew up in Dande I know Mushumbi
Thank you very much for watching, I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it.

Hi Bruce. Another good one! So you've reached the Southern most part and the Northern most part. How about the most Eastern and most Western parts? Though I'm sure you reached the Eastern most part when you went to Chimanimani 😆Can't wait for the next Zimbabwean adventure. 🔥🔥
Thanks very much. Yes just the most western point to do but there is also so much more. I can’t wait to share the next episode.

Epic adventure.....
Absolutely. I mean how crazy are those dinosaur footprints? Thank you for watching and commenting
Thank you Sir. I did my grade 2-3 at Mushumbi Pools. 1998. I remember my classmates eating my French toast and threw the lunch box in the pit. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂 that French toast must have been really great for that memory to stay with you for so long😂 it’s amazing some of the memories we have
Thank you for watching and sharing your memory.
I love that your videos are long. It's like watching a movie. I love the sounds of different wildlife in the background. Takes me back to my childhood when we visited kumusha ❤
Thank you for the awesome feedback. So happy to hear that
Thank you, thank you so much Bruce for taking us around this splendid and majestic land with mesmerizing beautiful scenery, the land we call home!! Great job, keep it up dear.

Absolutely me too. I wish I was brave enough like some who just do it. Thank you for watching
Thanks brother. A true brother you loved and still adores your country Zim
It’s a pleasure. Thank you for watching
Great video as usual! Good to see that the Defender is not just good looking but can also withstand a proper Zimbabwean detour.
Ever visited RIFA Conservation Education Camp in Chirundu? Went there once quite a while ago and keen to see if its still as is or even better, nice place to visit for junior and senior school learners.
Thank you very much. I haven’t. Should I put it onto the list?
Thanks so much for watching and commenting and for the continued support. I really appreciate it

Lovely Bruce, all your videos I would say. Hopefully one day we'll be a convoy and learn a few things (4x4) from you. Proudly Zimbabwean.

I’m a Zimbabwean diasporan living in Canada and I would be moving back to ZW🇿🇼 next year. I want to buy my Jeep Wrangler 392 20th limited edition. I want to go off-roading with you guys. You guys are cool. I was a Boy Scout back in the day in 1995 in high school and I enjoy the quiet bush life and camping type of stuff. Great video guys. Thanks for showing places never see before
Its a pleasure. Im not sure about the jeep and how much support there is in Zim for them but just go for it. Thank you for watching and commenting
Love your videos mate. You’re doing a great job.
Thank you so much. Really appreciate that. Thank you for your support and comment.
Thoroughly enjoyed that! Thanks!
I'm stuck in JHB in an ungrateful job and long for the days when I could do trips like this. So the escapism is truly appreciated!
Me too don’t worry. Thank you for watching
Wow, African television network executives are sleeping on the job. This is the type of content that the world needs to see. Easy to watch, informative, and educational as well. If they only knew how you guys are contributing to boosting tourism in Southern Africa. Now my kid wants to see the dinosaur footprints.
