Holy shit I agree, I was planning SA and it’s so fucking annoying to have to restart from the beginning on a dumb mission like the train one. I understand maybe getting rid of some checkpoints but literally driving constantly to the place you mission fail annoys me and makes for terrible gameplay and honestly just makes me want to quit playing most the time.

Lol that was exactly what I liked about GTA back in the days. After failing a mission, you were driving/flying back having some time to chill. It should be said though that in Gta 3, vice city, san andreas and iv I did not fail missions that often, while in gta 5 I did for one specific reason: the tunnel mission design that gave absolutely no freedom how to do the mission.
That is why for me gta v was a bad gta, still a good game compared to the other crap that was released that time though.

I wouldn't use it today unless it's some bullshit glitch or something which gets me stuck even after retrying. Also the Retry button I honestly don't mind. When I played GTA 4 back in 2018 I got really mad and didn't liked it because I died just way too many times. I don't even have the 500k Trophy because of how many times I died and those stupid Hospital bills. Also btw about the Intros. Now this is Red Dead but RDR2's intro is like 2 hours long before you can be in actual Freeroam walking around interacting with Peds and stuff. Still it's a good introduction. But sadly I just make loads of Saves at the start of Chapter 2. RDR2 has the Skip option but I can say it takes maybe way too long until you get the Option to do it. Which is good.

They all work, sound and feel the same. 3D trilogy did it soooo much better, AK - good damage, not good accuracy, M4 - opposite. The main selling point for me about GTA V is the atmosphere. This is something that's hard to actually quantify, but matters more than almost anything. This is where a game becomes more than the sum of its parts. The city of Los Santos and the surrounding areas, coupled with the radio stations, the greatly realized traffic and NPCs, and the amazing attention to detail just brings joy to me.
One thing I truly agree with from your video, is the difficulty, or rather total lack there of. This game should have been harder. Just making a hard mode that disables checkpoints and special abilities would have made the experience much better.
Great video and analysis, it was a nice watch.

    • @UltraProchy
      @UltraProchy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +57

i kinda agree but thats very subjective, every GTA is about the atmosphere and personally id say the series doesnt even come close to what yakuza series offers, the closest it got was with san andreas, where you could actually do stuff

    • @BladeXRG
      @BladeXRG 3 ปีที่แล้ว +171

GTA V has by far the worst atmosphere, I mean, 2/3 of the map are empty, there is no focus in what they wanted to make the "atmosphere", the city is way too big and gets boring and nothing about the map itself upstands. I mean, GTA III was rainy and cold, Vice City is Miami, San Andreas might not have that much of an atmosphere but the map itself is even more varieted that GTA V's and it feels more natural, and GTA IV has that dark filter that we all like, among those rains. So no, atmosphere isn't a positive thing of GTA V neither.

100%, though I prefer IV's atmosphere LS feels incredible. I remember playing it on PS3 and "feeling" the hot sun in some weird way. And a hardcore mode is seriously a massive thing I've wanted from V since launch.
Disabling checkpoints is a good idea but I feel like special abilities would be worth keeping, they'd be more interesting if they were much more scarce (maybe even starting empty by default) and the AI smarter and harder to fight against, plus a lot more enemies in missions that come at you from behind or flank you rather than just standing in the open and being easy cannon fodder. Slashing max health to 1/4 of what it is now would help too so you're punished for standing out in the open and go down as fast as NPCs do.

      @MariusBoss11458 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

@@Chuked Agreed. Some things I can agree some not. I think that GTA 4 is the most equal game. Gives you a challenge and there's some checkpoints. Not too many but there are at least some. Plus you can use your phone to restart it and you don't need to watch the Cutscenes too. For example I saw that in the Diamond deal with Johnny in that Museum if you fail and use your phone it'll place you right at the museum after the cutscene. Now THAT'S something cool. But I can agree the 100% Completion is too easy. It might take you 10 hours in a speedrun but it's not that wow. Only big thing is you need to get 100 collectibles for 2 missions and that's it. It would have been cool if you'd have to choose Deathwish in order to 100% the game. Plus a mission for all 3 characters.

Not losing your weapons is underrated in making the game easier. It was a nice little game loop to having to hit up the gun spawns or store between missions/messing around and it was fun doing things with different “load outs”

    • @goldbullet50
      @goldbullet50 2 ปีที่แล้ว +49

I also considered it an inherent part of the franchise. You could either do it the cheap way with only a pistol and a shotgun, or you could really prepare yourself for a showdown and destroy everyone with an RPG. And you could always make some real money with the side missions, unlike in GTA V. Kind of immersed you more to the world, when usually the only loadout you had was the one you had before the mission. In a way, in addition to this, thanks to the mission replay function, you cannot lose a mission nor have any penalty for dying. I liked how sometimes in older GTA's, you just had to owe up to your mistakes and do some actual playing outside of missions as well to prepare yourself for the mission you got stuck in.

Completely agree about the lack of autonomy when it comes to approaching missions.
Sometimes the best fun and memories from playing these games is playing a mission a way it wasn't intended, and for me at least there's fun in things nearly going very wrong, like missing shots at a helicopter with a rocket launcher, getting a ton of health taken from a enemies shooting you, vehicles blowing up or falling off motorcycles, scraping through with very little vehicle health or the health a vehicle/aircraft you're meant to be protecting.
The great thing about those older games is you felt a sense of achievement when finishing the mission in these instances despite having only just passed said mission, whereas V gives you a scorecard and tells you what you didn't do 'correctly' or how you should've approached it to get the perfect score.
This and the hard line linearity of V really took away that aspect of enjoyment from GTA games.

I agree with most points except:
    1. The older games werent non linear by design, but rather lack there of. (Comming from someone who has casually played 3500 hours of SA, 120 of VC and 90 minutes of 3 wich i didnot enjoy as much)
R* has always favored the "cinematic gameplay" during missions. The only "freedom of choise" that the gta series is known for is what order you pick the missions. (Wich i agree is a wasted oppurtunity)
The missions in the 3D games can sometimes provide you with non obvious options, but those are usually oversights and exceptions, not the norm.
    2. Woulnt scripted traffic make the game more consistent and fair to speedrun with less RNG? Ive seen speedrunners complain about RNG in other situations.
    3. I never used the "skip mission feature", but i bet its usefull if you are softlocked or is only interested in replaying one particular part of a mission.
My biggest gripe with GTA 4 & GTA 5 (not talking about Online wich i have bigger gripes with), is that you dont get rewarded for doing all the side content like you got in the 3D games. But i guess that is due to the HD games being focused on realism.

GTA V didn't add the feature to instantly restart a mission/checkpoint. Mission restarting after failure was added in IV, where the player got a text message that allowed to restart the game. This is also done much better than in V. In V you get a black screen and a menu that is completely removed from the game itself, but in IV you are given the option in the overworld using a feature that is introduced and explained early in the game, which is far more interactive than a simple black screen with a menu.
If we build a timeline of the evolution of the mission restart feature we can go even further back.
VC - When you die or get busted, a taxi appears that can carry you instantly to the mission you failed
SA - The taxi on wasted/busted was removed, but for some missions with long drives they added a trip-skip function. In addition, the final mission is split into 3 segments, which can be considered a start of the checkpoint system.
LCS - The taxi on wasted/busted returns. The final mission also has a checkpoint.
VCS - Taxi on wasted/busted is kept from LCS. Several missions provide trip skips for long drives like in SA
IV/TLAD - Ability to instantly restart any failed mission for any reason using the phone. Taxi traveling became a more general feature. IV has a checkpoint in the final mission and TLAD has some checkpoints in long missions.
TBOGT - Every mission now has checkpoints, but not as many as V.
V - Checkpoints everywhere. Checkpoint/mission restarting is done via a black screen with a menu.

Very interesting prespective. Personally, I don't mind the prologue, but I couldn't agree more about the:
    - Scripted missions. A thing I always loved about GTA is the ability to make choices and see how they play out.
    - Handholding. I never used the skip feature and it always felt weird to me. I also didn't like the checkpoints but they are not as bad.
    - Money. If you ever played serious GTA RP you will know how amazing it feels once you get your first gun, not to mention how it feels if you get your hands on a submachine gun or rifle. I didn't even take my gun unless I was going to do something dangerous just so I don't loose it. It is weird, but these restrictions made it soooo much fun.
    - Probably the worst offender for me - superhuman character skills. Why don't you make it so that Trevor can get his hands on some blackmarket guns which others cant use. Franklin can have access to special car customizations at a chop shop or smth. Michael can have some connections since he is in the high society. Maybe he can cancel wanted lvls by calling his FBI buddies. This would have been a million times better than superhuman driving & shooting
    - Online. I won't even get into the online. Just download FiveM (Accept that your data will be stolen at some point of time.) and play RP.

The thing abt the prologue and daddys little girl comparison is that the prologue is linear like that for the plot. It ends with a scene showing how michael fakes his death and it includes getting wrecked by the train. Doing anything other than getting hit by the train wouldnt make sense therefore its a mission fail

With scripting, the conversation you're having is storytelling Vs gameplay. As a speedrunner, you probably lean very heavily on "gameplay". In the past decade, we've seen games really start to pivot into the storytelling aspect. Games like Call of Duty spearheaded this. If the character is running from something and an explosion happens, for the purposes of telling a story and setting the atmosphere, the game might have scripted camera, dialogue or movement etc. when this happens. It's done to add a more cinematic feeling to the game. With the chasing the boat mission, that's pretty similar to let's say End of the Line from San Andreas. For the firetruck to be able to collide with things or pass the explosions like intended, the player would HAVE to follow it's path. You needed to be in a convertible in both to be able to have the cinematic aspect of the NPC entering/exiting the boat. This is all done to create the atmosphere. They want the player to be forced to interact with more than JUST the subject of the storyline. Scripted events happening along the way draws in the world around you. This isn't just an NPC, this is someone who serves a purpose in the progression of the mission. The older games don't have that because the world around you just exists and you move around it. Also, in terms of the intro being so long, what GTA 5 tried to do is make playable cutscenes in this area. Instead of skipping the robbery in GTA 3, watching the deal go down in Vice City or seeing the cop car drive around in San Andreas, you actually play your intro cut scene in GTA 5.
I completely agree about holding your hand, but I also don't really play GTA games for challenges and would do so just for the enjoyment of playing. I also completely agree about the side content. San Andreas was fantastic at giving you rewards for your work on the side missions. Your health improved. You kept your weapons. You managed to get tanks and jets in grove street. GTA 5 has none of that from what I could see.
    If I'm being critical of GTA 5, it comes down to four things;
    1) There is no overall storyline. Trevor is maybe the best character they've ever created, and his back story with Michael is interesting. But the overall concept of the game is "Do that bank job and make some money". GTA 3 had the revenge mission. You're getting back on your feet to get back at the person who double crossed you. GTA San Andreas had Carl do everything in his power to get Sweet out of jail. GTA 4 didn't have a huge underlying storyline, but the storyline developed naturally from the beginning, bouncing around to different storylines. GTA 5 has none of this. There's no deep connection to family members. There's no need to protect anyone. It's all just "Let's make some money". This is actually my main gripe with Vice City too. Tommy Vercetti is sent to Vice City to start up production. Sure, they get robbed early and there's an underlying want to find out how and why. But ultimately your goal is "Okay let's take over the city" which isn't that interesting.
    2) The game is barely used. I remember completing GTA 5 once and then not going back to it for years. It was only when seeing some stuff online, like Vanoss, that I realized how GTA was essentially this amazing playground where you can do anything if you set up it. Even these days with the NoPixel mods, it shows how incredible GTA 5 was as a platform. But really, I don't remember exploring anything from GTA 5. I know GTA 3 up to GTA 4 absolutely inside out. Every building, every street. I never got any of that from GTA 5 as the story missions just don't seem to really cover anything about it.
    3) They ruined the online experience. For me, I absolutely loved GTA 4 online. Going into a free roam lobby, everyone had a coloured icon on the screen. Let's say the blue and orange guy are in a car, maybe I might go and blow them up and run. I'll look on the map and see blue and orange get in a car together and they're coming for me. I now have a rivalry with blue and orange. Maybe me and red just raced at the airport. I know me and red are cool. In GTA 5, everyone is bouncing in and out of lobbies and most of the icons are just regular white ones anyways. You didnt get to know any character in your lobby at all. No one was doing anything. They had a reason to their lobby time and you weren't involved in that. Sure, there's TONNES of extra stuff in there, but in GTA 4 the extra stuff stopped being used very quickly. By like 2011 you'd have found it hard to get a Cops and Robbers session off the ground. But Free Roam was always booming. Feel strangely nostalgic even writing that.
    4) They never used any of their best features. The heists seemed cool as fuck to me. Picking your team. Building their stats up. That reminded me a little bit of a game like Juiced. Each race my team got better stats and improved their abilities. They had this in GTA 5....but they only had like 3 actual heist missions. If they had a bunch of these, like 20 different missions with a lot of potential team combinations, I'd have loved it. And even worse, they barely use their character switching at all. I loved Conflict Desert Storm for their character switching. I'd have my sniper watching over from the hill, I'd sneak forward with my main guy. My brother puts the heavy gunner to overwatch everything and sneaks forward with me. If we get spotted and it goes to shit, stick on auto fire and our guys have our backs. Even the idea of having missions you could play from a bunch of different perspectives. A game that was good for offering different experienced based on your character recently was A Way Out. My game wouldn't have been the same as again say my brother's game because we experienced different stuff. If they weaved a lot of missions together with the sole purpose of "This mission is played out 3 different ways, which character will you use for it?" it'd have been MUCH more interesting.

For me I played GTA 5 quite a lot. And instead I've played GTA 4 for one playthrough and a bit and didn't touched it. Well it was in 2018 and at the end of it I got my PS4 and I gave up on the PS3. Which sucks because today the games suck ass. Not the games themselves. It's just that they work badly because of Scratched stuff. Tried GTA 4. Crashed too much. Plus it looked like it ran at less than 30 FPS. Yet when I looked at an option on my TV. I press Ok then back because when I press ok it's supposed to show some channels even though they don't work and don't care if they do, so after pressing back it says some Information about the HDMI and it says 60 Hz and the quality. Now I'm playing Prince of Persia Trilogy and it's 720p but it's still fine. This game works nicely. Glad because I can play it while waiting for the Remake of Sands of Time. Anyways it said 60fps yet it didn't feel like it. But it's aight. It sucks that I didn't played GTA 4 as much as I wanted to. Hope I'll get to play it nicely one day. I don't have a PC so that's a problem. I'd play it on that. Btw If I'd get a PC what should I get? I have a PS4 Slim btw. I'd like something which is like that but a bit more better. Perhaps better than a PS4 Pro?

The story is amazing, Micheal dealing with the corrupt fib agents and has to get T and F to help him. Franklin dealing with his loyal but annoying friends. Trevor creating a drug empire and pulling scores. Then they all get brought together by Devin western.
The ending allows you to make your choice as Franklin and choose whose advice you took, stay loyal similar to trevor, be a realist like Michael I take advice from both of them and develop a plan which save both of them but is also possible.

In VC, Tommy tricked during drug dealing therefore he need to earn the money back to Sonny. And in SA, you're finding the truth who's exactly the person who's trying to ruin your gang and accidentally shot death CJ mother.

GTA having skippable missions actually helps out quite a bit for bugged missions. Such as bringing Amanda's car to the LSC, there's a rare bug where the LSC employee dies repeatedly and makes the game impossible to progress. If you play at over 60fps, one of the simeon missions always fails because the car shifts over and the npcs run away. The skipping is solving an issue that could be solved with a patch or proper port.

"a speedrunners take" on a game that was essentially made for casual story focused game, the critique on mission fail conditions only makes sense for some missions, your aggressive take was obviously based off the fact that these conditions prohibit you from doing the mission very fast because that's exactly what you're trying to do, speedrun the mission, in the eyes of a casual player, rockstar scripted these missions in question as to make it a better story experience, for instance if you ride along with Jimmy to the pier there's some dialog between Michael and Jimmy which you would miss if you simply sped ahead, your take on prologue was very nit-picky, the events and routes are scripted in such a way as to set a baseplate for what the story is built upon, wanting to go exploring off road or Rob oncoming cops doesn't make sense in the slightest considering you just robbed a bank and your are fleeing towards the exfil point, I am personally a casual player and I enjoyed GTA V's scripted missions after all if I wanted a more random experience I could always do what I wanted in free roam and Random events, the focus on the characters and story was more important to me than whether or not I could do non sensical things during missions for the sake of saving time and therefore missing out on content or dialog I would've experienced if just played the way it was designed.

    1. GTA V feels more like an interactive movie than like a game. You can't be creative. In most missions, it doesn't matter if you're being stealthy or kicking the door, the game will react exactly the same at some point. 2. It's too easy, you basically can kill any npc with one or two shots in the leg, while your character can take 15 shots and go take a walk. 3. This "more than one main character" thing was always a big waste of time and space, one good character is always going to be enough, and more immersive. 4. Police knows everything you do, even if you shoot a cop alone in the middle of the desert with a sniper, you'll immediatly get 3 stars. 5. After you finish the game, there's nothing more for you to do, you can buy one of those 5 luxury cars and go to the strip club throw money at the same 5 strippers again and again. (At least Tanisha could ask you back now that you're filthy rich, you decide if you want her or not). You're a millionaire and cant buy houses. 6. GTA V's story's strongest suit is definitely the 3 protagonists (for me at least). The character development and chemistry of Franklin, Michael, and Trevor is my favorite thing to go through every time I play through the story of the game. Watching Trevor unleash his anger on Michael until they put aside their differences, watching Franklin use the help of Michael and Trevor to make it big (in the criminal world), and going along for the ride that Michael takes with his relationship with his family. Every time I play and replay the story of the game, this is the main thing that keeps me interested and hooked in. A lot of the missions are fun (some suck tho), but this tale of friends is just so well written. Also, something that helps is the performance of all the voice actors for these characters. Their line delivery (especially Steven Ogg and Ned Luke) really turn this story into something special for me. Also, the world of Los Santos (and even parts of the desert societies) feels so alive. From the stock market to the NPC interactions, to just driving around the loud, crowded city of Los Santos, it all feels so satisfying and mesmerizing.

You summed up precisely how I feel about mission scripting and also why GTA 3 was so fun. There was so much replay value in those older games. The Chunky Lee Chong mission is a perfect example of how you could approach a mission with different routes and tackle it your own way. I spent years replaying GTA 3 and messing around with it like that. There's the mission for Salvatore where you have to follow the guy from Luigi's club who gets a taxi. You could just steal a taxi and pick him up yourself. Little details like that are what added so much fun to the game. Then there's the mission you have to kill Salvatore and there's several options you can take for that one.
To be fair here, there's some bad scripting in GTA 4 and that game is where I feel Rockstar went crazy with it. There's missions in GTA 4 where you have to chase vehicles, and they suddenly are scripted with godmode and can plow through every car in traffic, or they have a speed increase and impossible to catch up to. You can shoot every bullet you have of the submachine gun, but they're bullet proof until the end of that scripted sequence. GTA 4 still has some missions you don't have to follow a linear path like GTA 5, but it's not as fun as the older games.
You also sum up exactly how I feel about the collectables. One of the joys of those classic GTA games was to go around and collect the hidden packages to unlock early access to weapons that were there to go crazy with in free roam. The paramedic side mission gave you infinite sprint, and vigilante allowed you extra armor in Vice City. That all changed in GTA 4 and carried over into 5. I don't see the point in collecting stuff just for an achievement.

Once again, this is less so Rockstar's genius game design, and moreso how their team was a lot less smaller and the missions had a LOT less scripting, there's missions like Bait and others like it that can only be completed in one EXPLICIT way and you fail for doing the reasonable, sensible things, you look at most of these missions and the "Big brain" ways of beating them, and they're almost always caused by GTA 3's lack of fool proofing and limited scripting, the only real exception is that Salvatore mission with the taxi.
Rockstar always wanted to make games like GTA 5 (Look at the design document for GTA 3, they were insanely ambitious even back then) It's just that small team sizes forced the missions to appear bare-bones, but believe me, had they had a much larger team for GTA 3, it would have been as linear and limiting as GTA 5 is.
As a wise Peach Cobbler said - Rockstar is never non-linear *on purpose.*

The GTA load problems aren't as bad as they used to be, I'm never stuck in the clouds or black screened. It still takes an atrocious amount of time to load in in the first place, however.
As for GTA Online, the new heists are fun, especially Cayo Perico. While rather repetitive, it's an easy 1.4 mil average every 45 minutes, so it's an excellent way to earn money. The tedious grinding and public lobby sell missions aren't as necessary now.
I think it was a mistake to make one method so good that it defeats the purpose of everything else, but it did open up so many new items and purchases for the average player base because a new supercar, or cool plane was only 2 Cayo Pericos away. I have to credit them for that.

Even if I also think GTA V is not a great game and is overhyped, ranting for 2 minutes about how the prologue is linear is non-sensical. The prologue is something that already happened that you are allowed to re-live, so it wouldn't make any sense to be able to stray away from what literally already happened. The missions in which cars are scripted, are scripted so that a person playing the game for the first time (which for most people is the only time) develops in a way that you get the desired ending for the mission, like in the truck with the boat chase scene, imagine if someone was able to explode the truck earlier, then that person's experience would be duller than for the one who got the cinematic. Non-linearity would only be better for people that like playing the game over and over again, which are the minority. Then you give an example of how there is actually missions that are non-linear and instead complain about consistency, when in reality you just presented 1 example of non-linearity in GTA III, so with the given evidence you can't say there is a substantial difference in linearity between the 2 games.
The criticism on difficulty and Online I agree, I just think that the main reason why it's not a great game is more complex and has to do with the story. The fact that you play with 3 different characters makes you less emotionally attached to them than when you play with only one. This also means they have to meet at an early stage of the story or else you'd be able to manually run them into each other. So the story and characters develop faster and clunkier than what was done in the other games.

So are other restrictive measures like not being allowed to run or draw weapons inside buildings. Each mission shouldn't have to play out EXACTLY the same every time you play it. This level of linearity and restriction wasn't present in previous GTA games.
GTA IV was a great example of not only allowing for but actually encouraging and rewarding being creative and trying different approaches in missions. @@derpeth2101 easy as fuck when you buy a submarine, which costs twice as much as the reward for that heist. And paying to setup said heist.

Complaining about gta v missions being linear is stupid. Gta missions are known to be linear

Wrong about the cops shooting on sight point, they will actually attempt to arrest you at 1 star and then at 2 (if you run or resist arrest), you will be shot on sight. You can also get arrested at any wanted level if you sit still in a vehicle so an officer can arrest you. Unfortunately the point is still the same, you do have to actively try to get busted in GTA V

I agree that aspects of gta 5 are a lesser experience than some of the previous entries, but I also feel that all the gta games are great in their own right, and I rarely compare them because aside from shooting an stealing cars, they are all very different.

Honestly though, i started with gta online a month ago and had a great time. I basically play it as a singleplayer though XD.
It is kind of a grind to get some money but once you get some buisnesses going it's pretty nice. There are still people griefing on opressors etc. but i have also found many pleasant experiences with other people.
Failing a mission where you sell your whole warehouse really hurts (that's why i glitch into solo lobbies to reduce the risk of people ruining my life)
The missions are really fun. Like it is really immersive and makes you feel like you build your own criminal empire.
The only real downside aside from the people is the loading times which got a little better i believe but are still way too long imo.
As i see it, everything bad you mentioned about the singleplayer (like the linear gameplay) is removed in online so i really recommend it. (Though only if you know how to get into solo lobbies for important ceo/mc missions)

Personally I'm fine with all the handholding / straightforward missions in GTA V, I kinda like simply following instructions and orders ngl. What I'm not ok with is nonexistent difficulty, extremely downgraded physics (compared to GTA IV) and mediocre story. Great video, made me reconsider a lot of stuff about this game. Subbed and liked, keep up the good work ^^

@Maiahi no grip is actually a bug in the handling.dat, there are lots of files around the internet to fix it.

@Maiahi believe me, they would, the pc port of this game was made by a less expirienced studio of rockstar, there are tons of stupid bugs like this that they didn't care to check.
      For example:
->Bullet spread enters in coflict why mouse input, so unless you keep your mouse perfectly still, every bullet will be 100% acurate.
->DOF is directly ported from xbox 360 and doesn't work thet well with dx9, creating a more exagerated blur all over the screen once motion blur is turnned on (for some reason people still think this was an intended feature "vaseline blur").
->the thing with tires is that the grip values are invercely proportionall with your fps, if you play at 20 to 30 fps there is grip, but the higher the fps goes the less grip you get (motorcycles are completly broken).
->lots of textures in game flicker because they are over one another.
->Various gangs are supposed to hate niko as the story progresses (eg: after you kill drako and beat his brothers, the albanian gangsters antagonize you) this feature wich alterd pedbehavior.dat also entered in conflict with another file (but aparently this one is broken since the console versions and nobody noticed).
->Believe me, there are more like.

@Maiahi the good thing is that data miners created mods to fix all of the above, i could link them if you ask. If you install them gta4 you will get an expirience that is 10x more consistent and detailed then the original broken pc port. And in my opinion, the most enertaining gta game.

Fair points. We have to admit that older GTAs were in a completely different era of videogames. They set us a certain goal and we had to complete it. That was the era of those games with more tedious gameplay and less developed characters and story. GTAs of those time were kind of linear and consisted of character taking orders. GTA V is just different. It became more cinematic, like a playable movie. Missions provided character with some sort of independency. Protagonists take orders for more logical reasons (even Niko in GTA 4 became more picky while taking orders). So basically, GTA 5 turned away from gameplay. It is now more about the story. That explains the mission skip feature, because they intended to make gameplay less tedious. So, GTA 5 is not bad. It is just different from older GTAs.

The experience I had with both the Main Title and it's Online Mode was very mixed, looking back I had a lot of fun playing GTA V but only when I was set free to wonder around the map, either role playing, doing insane shoot-outs, trying different challenges, parkouring around buildings even, things also found in the previous title (IV). The first two points in the video best sum up the main problem with V, I understand where they are coming from, as today's gamers like to be hand held by the game and cry about other games lacking mentioned features such as a million checkpoints, health regen and big rewards (as in money or in-game currency) which for this game is totally useless. Perhaps R* will look back on what made GTA the big boy in the industry or continue to cut back on key features. As for the story, very poorly written and uninteresting. Such a shame those submarine parts and nuclear waste barrels were not part of 100% I had lots of fun exploring the ocean and using a phone app to track down the location of each collectible (Props to the developers for at least allowing the player to use his brain once in this entire game)
Great video Ben, and I hope my ramble here was worth the time spent. Good day!

Honestly, GTA V's story was pretty good. It was a bit clumsy, but knowing that R* are game developers, not writers, I really enjoyed the story. It takes a bit to understand, and a lot of people never actually get the conclusion of it, but it has a meaning. Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/6dne-o0SoT8/w-d-xo.html . The author discusses the meaning of GTA V's story mode, and it's honestly pretty interesting. Also, don't get me wrong, I LOVE GTA SA or GTA VC, but imo, none of them had an actual storyline. Both SA and VC had a rough background and a plotline, but it was rather for giving the context for the missions. We didn't know a whole lot about the characters, apart from their rough history in the past few years of their life, we didn't get a whole lot of a message or a moral from the story. Now again, I love both of the games, and I spent quite a long time playing them, but I just wanted to point out, that there is some stuff that a lot of casual V's players never notice. GTA V has a lot more to it than most games these days. Cheers

More linear/scripted missions isn’t bad just different.
Plus not all missions are the same.
GTA V isn’t the best game in every aspect, but it is still good and arguably the best in certain areas.
Having a lot of checkpoint or regenerative health isn’t bad, a game can still be fun without failure with dying, but I can see the perspective.
I don’t think simpsons hit and run is mad just for children but rather for a wide audience.
I don’t mind a skip feature since I never used it.
I agree that V’s 100% isn’t really 100% if you don’t have to do everything.
I agree that Online takes away from other content.
It has some positives, but it’s far from perfect/very flawed.
I think V is a good GTA game even if it’s not perfect.
