    Outstanding weather report from New Zealand. You answered many of the questions I have about Milton. I live 100 miles north of Tampa, in the center of the state, so wind will be our problem. We are not in an evacuation area. Thanks again and keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

    • @B1g_Salad
      @B1g_Salad หลายเดือนก่อน

      Indeed! I’d say geography is one of the more important disciplines in understanding meteorology, playing a huge role in weather patterns like it does here in NZ, albeit on a larger scale. For example, the influence that the Rocky Mountains, Gulf of Mexico, and deserts of the South West have on severe weather over the greater Continental US. Once you understand that, it’s easy to see why it’s a breeding ground for Tornados.

    Katrina was different. New Orleans sits in a basin, below sea level. They also had the issue of Lake Pontchartrain topping the dike.

    • @WeatherWatchTV
      @WeatherWatchTV  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Chad Meyers on CNN just repeated what I basically said - the storm surge with Milton is like Katrina, it won't likely ease as it moves in. But yes, certainly NOLA is partially below sea level which complicates it much more for that event.

    Hi Phil, what actually influences, or determines the path a hurricane will take? Probably a big subject,thanks david

    • @WeatherWatchTV
      @WeatherWatchTV  หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Hi there David. Put simply storms that form at the equator track to the poles. So hurricanes often initially track east to west in the trade winds, then they peel off and head north-east towards the pole (Coriolis effect). But along this journey they get what we call "steering" - which is when a high pressure zone acts like a boulder in a stream and change the current.... hurricanes prefer the path of leas resistance so they often get nudged in a direction along the edges of these powerful high pressure areas (gently nudged, or sometimes rushed/forced). If the hurricane is trapped with high pressure around it, it can get wind shear (when the the top of the storm gets its head cut off like from a wind powered buzz saw!) and the storm falls apart. Finally, the sea and land beneath them can power them up - weaken them. So quite a few moving parts, but modelling these days is getting exceptionally accurate at picking tracking ... but it's still not perfect.

    THE WATER TEMP IS 85 DEGREES SO IT WILL KEEP ITS CAT 5 STATUS

  • @trevor9934
    @trevor9934 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    I have been following the progress of Milton, hot on the heels of last week's hurricane and thus delivering a double-hit as much of the debris has not been cleared from the last one, thus becoming the source of projectiles that will hammer structures. The storm surge will be in the region of 5m in some areas.
    What blows me away is the politicization of the source of increasing weather events - belief in climate change has become a party issue and it should not be - it's science that is based on experience, observation and record. Yet some totally irresponsible extremists are now suggesting a conspiracy theory that the hurricanes are not created by climate change but engineered with powerful lasers to support climate change. It beggars belief that anyone would be that gullible, but people believe on party lines.

    Hi, I’m in Florida and I can’t find the information I need to answer a question I have.
    How close does Hurricane Milton need to be to Florida before it’s possible to predict precisely where it will make landfall? Thank you! Kelly in Orlando

    • @WeatherWatchTV
      @WeatherWatchTV  หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Hi Kelly, good question - and usually it's within 12 to 6 hours that you can really nail that. But large hurricanes "wobble" sideways and this can sometimes see them last minute moving in a certain direction. This actually happened last night, where it wobbled 30 miles southwards off track... before correcting itself in the morning. Most computer models should be fairly similar when you wake up tomorrow, which will help clarify things further.

    I'm glad I moved out of Florida after Andrew. Crazy to live on a sand, sea level peninsula that is hurricane alley for over 100 years of weather history. Matthew 7:24-27: Jesus says that those who hear his words and put them into practice are like a wise man who builds his house on a rock. The house stands firm against the winds, rains, and floods because it's built on a solid foundation. Those who hear his words but don't put them into practice are like a foolish man who builds his house on sand. The house falls with a great crash when the winds, rains, and floods beat against it.
