Transporting my Lectric XP bike in a Craftsman 50 gallon tote.

- Hi guys, in this video I will show you how I transport my Lectric XP bike using the Craftsman 50 gallon tote with wheels. The main reason for the tote is that it keeps the bike secure in the back of the car, and that you can use 2 people to lift it in and out of the trunk. The bike is still heavy and cumbersome, so I would advise 2 people to do this if possible. When my wife helps me, this process is much easier and smoother. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions. Remember this is just a way that I do it and not necessarily the way best suited for your needs. Thanks for watching and Ride Safe!

Thanks for the video. I’ve been struggling to figure out how to load my bike by myself.
thx for watching, Glad it helped you
I have the Yamee XL. Its a little bit bigger but I transport it the same way in a 55 Gallon sized container. Rather than lifting the bike and placing it into the container I found loading and unloading by myself a lot easier if you place the container in a vertical position. Then you just carefully roll it in and set it down horizontally.
thank you for the info, I will try that
I have not taken my bike out bc it is to heavy for me to lift in my vehicle,. So happy I found this detailed video. You make it look easy I'm going to try this Thank You !
people have also suggested standing the tote vertically than rolling the folded bike into it and than tilting it in to the car.
I came up with a better way of loading the bike into the tote. I set the tote on end, resting against the back of the vehicle. I ROLL the folded XP into the tote and pivot/slide the tote into the vehicle. Just reverse the procedure to unload. Much easier on the back.
Thanks for the suggestion I will try it next time
I heard the wheels on bike do not roll when folded. Is this correct?
@@Nolasusan1 The back wheel will turn the crank when it rolls backwards and bind, but you can usually roll it out of the tote and unfold the bike.
Thanks for thos crappy option. You will damage your car like this
@@oysterfleet5669 make a video lol
Thanks for the great content. Your videos have helped me alot with my XP. Take care.
Thank you very much for your feedback and the Super thanks. I'm glad you found the videos helpful. I enjoy making them and am happy to hear it helps people. Thanks again and ride safe!!
One can remove battery & seat to lighten the load.
Also, push down handle bars(reverse telescope) to make package smaller.
Great video! Only thing I would do different is it once its loaded in the vehicle is to spin the box around with the wheels facing out, so when unloading and they make contact with the ground first so that the box isn't scraping the ground.
I thought about that but than you are dragging the tote out of the car instead of the wheels doing the work. I will try it that way and see what happens. Thanks for the comment
it worked !!!
i folded the bike and the right pedal that is facing back , left pedal forward so it does not hit the fender etc , grabbed the rack and the handlebar stem and carefully lifted it into the tote . wheeled it to the full size van and with the tote wheels at the top i used both hands to lift and push firmly so the wheels don't roll at the wrong time and into the van it went...
have not tried to take it out by myself yet ... i'll get back to you ...
Glad to hear it, take your time with it until you perfect what works for you.
I'd be fine doing this by myself, it's just about leverage and balance. This does seem to be a perfect size tote and since I'd be loading it in a sedan, I want the least intrusive size. Thanks for this video.
thx for watching, def make sure the measurements will fit in your sedan, this tote is pretty long. I heard some people use the 40 gallon as well although its a tight fit, I have seen several videos on you tube about it. Good luck
Great idea. Eliminates need for a pet ramp but that might work too.
I like how you used reflective tape to hide the logo on the bike. Looks so much cleaner!
Yes also draws less attention to the bike from various individuals (thieves, Karens etc lol)
Makes it look like the bike is stolen
I have a van also,I just fold down the handle bars and roll the bike in. I use bungee cords to secure the bike to the sidewall.
thx for the comment
When I fold my bike I bungie the front brake to keep the front tire locked. Then place styrofoam to keep from scratching the bike halves. Fold the bike and bungie the wheels together. This makes it easer to handle.
Great idea and very smart. Thanks so much for sharing! Lynn and Danny
Thanks for watching!
Excellent I am going to do that
I’ve been thinking about getting one of these, just to keep the bike protected. 50 gallon looks nice. Might have some extra room for a few other things as well.
I just made a video of me loading my bike into my car, without a container. Come check it out.
will do
PERFECT, thanks so much for sharing!!!
thx for watching
Wowwwww, in my head Im like that’s not gonna fit their 😅! Nice job 👍
You made it look so easy! LOL
The wheels need to be on the same side as the lug handle. You can remove the handle bars and then fold them down so that it all fits in the lug ( before putting in the lug). It’s also nice to have folding pedals. You can bungee the wheels together to make it easier to lift. Undo the seat and push it down. Hope this helps.
thanks...i have heard about this and will click the link to the tote
thanks for watching, please check out my other videos
There are better no-lift at all demonstration when one can use also a dog car ramp and slide the storage container with foldable 65 pounds e-bike like Aipas A2 Elite or Lectric XP3 on the ramp to enter the trunk
Nicely done!
Thanks!
Maybe a strong strap around the back tires to give a better back lift
I find it, if you're doing it that way squeeze the back brake to keep it from rolling when unfolding fyi
thx for the suggestion
This is great. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to spin the tote around once it is inside the van so that the handle faces you so you can use the handle while lowering it. The only issue is that you would have to make sure the wheels don’t roll the crate out from under you when it touches the ground. Just a thought.
you want the wheels to go in first and be toward the front of the car. I always have my wife with me so we just grab on each end and take it out,
Upon removing bin from car…..Can you Lean the bin around with bike facing you …….and you can just roll it out of the bin instead of lifting it?
yes I have heard people doing it that way as well.
@@TrailsUnscripted The only problem I see is that the wheels don’t roll when it’s folded up?
Great video! Thanks 👍
No problem 👍
can you row the bike up a ramp into your mini-van? lower the handle bar and drop the seat. I find that the most damage to a bicycle during transport, especially putting it on a bike rack of any kind
you prob could. not sure how easy it would be to steer it up the ramp with the handle down. Bike is pretty heavy and cumbersome.
You keep saying it's better with two people. Well there is not always two people, l rather see you do it by yourself. That's more helpful.. Thanks for the video.
Hi, I am doing it all by myself as you can see I am the only one in the video. I'm just saying its better with 2 people since the bike is still heavy especially with all the accessories I have on it. I'm trying to show an honest perspective and that's why I keep mentioning its better with 2 people. If you want me to lie next time and say its a piece of cake let me know and I can edit the video.
I wonder if you put a piece of pvc tubing or other pipe under it in the car to make it roll better would help?
prob would but then it may slide around while driving.
Thankd for that video, I love your 50 gal tote with wheel . Can't find them here in Canada at a good price .You should make a video on how to take the battery out for thode who have a spare and want to change it out during a ride. 🌞🌞🌞🌞😎 sub to your channel
Coming soon! thanks fir subbing
There are 50 gallon containers with wheels. it helps.
sorry i didnt se the video before my reply
How do you like your bike.Is it easy to assemble from the shipment. Is it worth the money? Is it hard to maintain?thanks!!!
I like the bike, its easy to assemble and maintain and its definitely worth the money.
FYI this tote is a bit too small for the xp premium, Lowes does have a slightly larger tote that works great for about $15 more.
Thanks for the info, I have the original XP, but that's good to know for anyone that has the premium.
Damn. I bought a 40 gal. I think it's going g to be too small
Don't you think it would be helpful to give the model# of the bike?
Hi the model is in the title of the video. The Lectric XP
@@TrailsUnscripted Thanks, I think the xp 3, is larger than the xp 2.
Just saying, For your information and others, Dewalt has a little bigger tote they call a large tool carrier, It also has wheels, Just some information.
thank you, how much is it?
@@TrailsUnscripted The price at Home Depot is $119.00
@@TrailsUnscripted also it is 62 gallon instead of 50 gallon
This work with Lectric XP 2.0?
Hi I don't have a Lectric XP 2.0 but I dont see why it wont work with it.
better to have wheel go in last a?????
Try both ways and see which one works better for you.
Nice video. Remember to drink your milk kids
And eat your Wheaties !
Waste of money! Making more time in loading the bike into the vehicle. NOT very smart.
for me this is more for keeping it secure while in the car especially if you have multiple bikes. My friend also has the lectric xp and we go biking together, this way the two bikes sit nice and secure and don't scratch or bump against each other while driving.
Is it better with two people?
yes definitely
