Just the process of mining those minerals for the batteries wrecks the local environment and speaking of "wrecks", don't EVER crash one violently enough to break open one of those battery cells! Even a simple fender bender will cost you thousands to fix, geez!😮😢

Basically, a used EV has ZERO value in the market, as maintenance costs can exceed the market value.

One more reason for NOT TO BUY AN EV! It is clear, EV's are not the answer. If buying a new EV has its own problems, I can't imagine a used EV! Even if you get one for free, it is going to be expensive to own. Thanks, but no thanks!

You would have to set aside a separate country to hold all the disposable EVs this will create, and the biohazard effect will come a lot sooner than any climate catastrophe.

@@steveknight878,, spoken like a true tree hugger.. better read and change channels before you say that again.. look at horrific devastation they caused in south america/ Chile. It takes about 1.6 + million liters of FRESH water to dissolve 6 tons of acid and lithium, what's left is an isolated swamp of pools of toxic waste.. you can recycle 100% ICE.... max 90% of an EV. And the chemicals it takes to refine that used lithium,, cobalt, etc is ridiculous and costly..

The cobalt in EV batteries (which is fast becoming a non-issue, because newer batteries don't use it) can be recycled. The cobalt used in oil refining cannot be recycled.

It depends on which one you are buying, there are some EVs that could be very easy to fix the battery and change what it needs (no spay foam inside the battery pack). Anyway battery should last about 200K miles if you not always charge the battery to 100%. If you can charge at home, it saves a lot of time especially the one that has DC fast charge about 50KW. It allows you charge while you doing some shopping. You can always rent the gas power for long trips. I don’t know 100K on this thing still runs the same way as the first day when it came out of the dealership. I don’t think there is any gas power car that can run 100K with zero service.

There are professional instruments that may put an EV battery to a real test (the car may need to be driven or charging), to assess the battery's health and remaining life.

  • @Tman76

Depreciation is a reason to buy. If they lose half their value in the first few years, you don’t want to buy new. You want to buy a low mileage used one. Not tat I am advocating for them - I am not even a fan of hybrids. My in-laws bought a new Infinity hybrid and the mpg was almost identical to the 2005 Malibu I paid $1000 for. The added weight took away any advantage. They also checked the cost of replacing the battery just to find it is discontinued and the only place that can custom make a new one is in BC. Not a good thing if you are in Saskatchewan. And what if your screen is discontinued? The car can be scrapped because no one makes aftermarket ones.
