- Today at Ugly Truck, we're tearing down another 6.0L LS for an upcoming swap. This engine has 330,000 miles on it, and it looks like it had low oil pressure or was run without oil, but overall there are lots of good parts left. Hopefully we get a good crankshaft, cylinder heads, and engine block back from the machine shop. Be sure to stick around for the rebuild!

Nice! UTX always makes the day better!
😁👍 Thanks for tuning in, Mooney!
@@UglyTruckExperienceHello I own a Chevrolet express 6.0 LQ4 with 90,000 miles, I live in France in a region where the climate is temperate, I do 6000 miles per year, I drive mainly in the summer, and I tow a 6000 lbs trailer, should I stick to the oil recommended by the manufacturer 5W30 or can I use a 5W40 for example???
Wow!!! Just to watch this Lady with Power Tool’s Know & Work on A Engine’ is very fascinating and amazing….😄😅😄✌🏾
👋 Thanks Bernando! Glad you enjoyed it! ☺️

You know I’m watching like a hawk! Just posted my current project for sale, now that it’s running, driving, and has a couple hundred miles on it. A whole bunch of squarebody trucks are for sale in the area, and time is right to get a good one. Can’t wait to start on a swap!
🥳🥳 Yes!! We just snagged one for cheap a couple weeks ago, so there are still deals to be had! And I bet they're a lot less rusty where you are. Be sure to keep us posted, and thanks again for the gifts! 😁 --Emily
These guys pay attention to detail like no other ..they stay busy cause they are good at what they do ..but they always find the time to respond to any questions i have ..their work is solid ..still can find great people like they are …refreshing
Thanks so much, Reed! We were talking about you the other day. We just bought a truck in Yellville that has a "Truman Baker Chevrolet - Searcy, AR" decal on the back. Stop by next time you're in the neighborhood! 😁 --Emily and Jerry
nice job
Thanks Alonso! 😎😎
Good job Emily
Thanks Bobby!
💯💯💯💯💯♥️♥️it thanks trying to see if i need a new crankshaft now
We hope it turns out great Homie!!! Jerry and Emily
Have a 85 c10 n I’m trying to put a 02 6.0 ls in n did everything the same as u guys with the clam shells n stock mounts n I moved the perches to the v8 holes n i can get a bolt through the mount n clamshell on passenger side but not the driver it’s about 1 inch away n won’t line up, it originally had the 4.3
Hey Brian. The motor mount perches on the frame are totally different on the V8 and V6. When I swap a v6 I end up buying the frame mounts for a v8. I can usually find them on EBAY. If I can't find them there. I will start looking at salvage yards locally. Even with the v8 frame mounts, I will still have to move the motor mount back and drill new holes in the frame if I am planning on using the stock AC location. Jerry
I put the truck perches on that have the holes for a v6 n v8 n have the mounts in the v8 holes
I usually end up moving the frame portion of the pirch at the crossmember back to the V6 holes and then drilling new holes at the top of frame if I remember correctly. Jerry
I got it to line up , I end up removing the perches from the frame n just hooking them to the mounts n lowering it in with everything as a whole an lining up the holes on the frame
Excellent. Nice Job. Jerry and Emily
Hello, and thanks for all of your hard work and information that you guys provide. I would like to know if that engine was running before the teardown?
Hello King. Yes, the truck that this came out of had been sitting in a field for a few years after being wrecked. I purchased it, the former owner of it filled up the tires and drove it over to our place. It ran fine. Even with the cam that bad, it is crazy how well they run. Thanks for watching. Jerry and Emily
@UglyTruckExperience yes,I agree. These engines are amazing, I have o e with 336,000 mi. and it runs fantastic! I have four of these trucks, and they are remarkably reliable. Thanks again, and keep on Trucking!
OK so! What was Jerry grinding on the whole time you where trying to work? I guess at minimum when you do a swap you change out the oil pump and timing chain...
Hey Scott! Jerry was working on some rust repair. That truck is from Mississippi and it's really solid, except where it's not. 😆 We've done a few swaps where we just replace the oil pump and timing set, but the last few we did a full rebuild. More time and money, but the peace of mind that you're starting fresh is nice. It usually just depends on what we have for a donor. We appreciate you tuning in! 👋 --Emily
Well hello there
Hi Alonso! 👋👋
Do you ever install LS engines that are sold by junkyards as good engines ? There's a couple yards that sell engine , trans. , gas pedal ,trans. yoke and ECM's together , I was thinking of going that route .
Hello Ted. We have bought 4 or 5 of them that were complete units like that and have had no problem with them at all. I do pay attention to where they are coming from. When they come from out east or north, they are covered in exterior rust and the aluminum parts are oxidized past looking good again. If you end up getting one, let us know how it goes. Thanks for watching. Jerry and Emily

OK , thanks , I will.@@UglyTruckExperience
That poor old 6.0 lived a very hard 300K miles. Rode hard and put up wet.
Rode hard and put up dry, I think! 😆 Definitely could have use some more oil on those cam bearings! Thanks for tuning in! --Emily
Great video! I have a 05 Silverado 5.3 with 320 thousand runs great. Every 3 thousand it loses oil pressure until I change the oil , what do you think ? Oil stays clean thanks
Hey Chevykev. Next time you lose oil pressure, smell the used oil and see if it might be diluted with fuel. I had a flex fuel truck in here once that did that. It would go about the same distance and then the oil would just start dropping down to less than 10 lbs. You could also pull a valve cover off with fresh oil in it and run it with the valve cover off and see if your getting any oil up top. That gives you a little hint at the condition of the cam bearings. Thanks for watching. Let me know what you figure out. Jerry
@@UglyTruckExperience Thank you Jerry I will check it out
I was hoping you were going to pitch the water pump… or take it home
Hey Tim! 👋 I think you meant oil pump, but yes, rest assured every pump on this engine ended up in the scrap pile. 🤣 We appreciate you tuning in!
I need a 6.0 for a car I’m building
There's still deals out there to be had, but the 6.0's are getting harder to find. What are you building? Thanks for tuning in!
@@UglyTruckExperience 73 Camaro
Nice. We have a 75 but I just pretend that it is a 73. Jerry
@@UglyTruckExperience I hear ya, I like 75s, but I like the 73 cause ya don’t see em a lot
Kept thinking "is the bearing damage just not showing well on camera?" I'd call most of that 'self polished' lol
They really weren't too bad at all, but I'm used to seeing them after 150K. Pretty impressive how well they hold up, as long as they have oil. We have a donor here with 450K that will be an interesting teardown as well. Thanks for watching, Marc! --Emily
I was thinking the same thing!
I was thinking the same thing!
Have you ever had issues not using the recommended sequence on the rocker arms. Building my first one now and just gathering info
Hello Mathew. No, I have never had any issue with that at all. I have read that tightening procedure and it really doesn't make that much sense. I tighten them down evenly and then torque them to spec a couple of times around just to make sure I didn't miss one. Thanks. Jerry
I liked it. Day to day activity is good content. I would have liked a closer look at that grill guard though. It looked beefy
Thanks Bill! Glad you enjoyed it. There are a lot of things like this that go on behind the scenes of a swap that we could post if folks are interested! Check out this video for a better look at the winch on the blue truck. th-cam.com/video/8AA2xkXQAa0/w-d-xo.html We appreciate you tuning in! 👋 --Emily
Nice work! Glad someone had worse cam bearings than mine, mmmmk!
🤣 They've definitely seen better days! Thanks Michael!
Great video as always guys!!!! I'm sad I didn't get to do a teardown video but that's OK. As soon as I pickup my rotating assym from the machine shop getting balanced, I can start the assym of my 6.2L. My grandson can't stop talking about it. I got Ford corporate Blue in yesterday. Blue is my favorite color. Not because of the Ls crown vic swap lol. Going to get new piston and connecting rods? There are Gen4 rods new/used sets for like $100 bucks ish. Lol
Thanks Hugh! We were just catching up on some of your videos. It's so awesome to see your family out there helping you! We're excited to see that Crown Vic fire up! 😁 Nice work! --Emily and Jerry
Thank you. We are having alot of fun. Thank you for the encouragement.
It's cool to see the face of the person with so many comments that I've made huh? Lol.
Definitely! That was a big part of starting the Facebook group! We hear from so many different people about so many different swaps, but we never get to see any of it! Awesome stuff!
Great job on the tear down
Thanks for tuning in, John!
Ok so good one
Thanks Grey Stone! Not many Ok So's in this one, but I'm sure we'll make up for it next time! 🤣
