I use that cambelt technique when changing my underpants 😄
🤣🤣
Dave, I love the way you did that cam belt, I've never seen that before looks like a much easier way instead of messing with the timing.
Thanks 👍
Nice one Dave the engine sounds sweet!
Thanks 👍
Love the sound of throttle bodys never get's tiered 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Engine sounds good, can't beat the sound of twin webbers.
Nice one Dave, I used smaller chokes in my 45s on my Pinto, supposed to be better for low down torque and driveability
That's what I'm aiming for, there's 24mm chokes in them now, which is too small, I've got some 34mm which should be right for road use
Always a good idea to listen to everyone then decide if it can work for you, plus I’ve invested years into watching this build and of course you Dave, nearly there fella and I still think I’m as excited as you to see the hard work you have put it shine like a diamond
That's a brilliant way of changing the timing belt, never seen that done before. Your a genius, keep them videos coming.
I’m running at power throttle body’s on my st 170 dave, Mosleys up in llangadog rolling roaded it shes 180bhp I love it goes well and sounds the dogs 👌👌👍
Lovely 👌
Hi Dave, you can’t use words like potchin it’s only recolonised by us Welsh valley commandos 😂😂
🤣
Excellent work Dave the engine will be the perfect sound track for the MK1 Big Wing look
Thanks 😊
Great stuff Dave, the engine sounds really good well done
Engine sounds good that will fly
That was a damned clever trick with the new belt Dave! I like it! 👍👌
Amazing....that's another landmark point in the journey. They're coming thick and fast now.
Amazing Work you are very talented
Dave if you knew the engine was running well previously then I don’t see any issue with swapping the timing belt as you did and sticking with the existing timing etc… Nice job 👍
There’s nothing wrong with using slightly small chokes for road use as the car will be nicer to drive normally. You really only need the bigger chokes if you are constantly running at 5000rpm plus.
Another milestone Dave. Well done.
Sounds lovely Dave another mile stone achievement in this fabulous build , never seen a belt changed like that ha ha but it worked perfect 👍
Problem with changing cam belt that way is you cant get the tension right between cam sprockets, good practice to renew idler and tensioner at the same time too,an observation not criticism!
The spider poo might be from the Webber's 😊
🤣
You did well to change delt dave ,if you do it right and the adjuster ok it will be fine .well done
Sound great Dave, she’ll tick over better with exhaust system on. Getting exciting now
Thanks Mick
Awesome. Exciting stuff.
Seen someone else change a cam belt like that think it was on a Rover 800 possibly another good video 👍
D3Sshooter has an excellent guide on his channel on the 40 webbers which jets to use etc. Smaller chokes are better for low down torque. Penguin motors on his channel tests all different configurations of chokes and jets and dyno tests to show the difference
Thanks, I'll.check that out.
Are you sticking with the ESC module for ignition? I have a Megajolt on my Zetec. The ability to get the laptop on it and change the timing is really helpful.
Hi Stu, I'm curious to see how it works, if it's naff then I'll go to a programmable jobby
👍👍👍
Dave, will the engine be running with some sort of ecu wired in, cheers
Hi Steve, I've got an "ESC" unit from a late Ford Orion that controls spark timing, time will tell how effective it'll be. Probably end up with an ECU at some point
The belt change is a fantastic idea, even if you only need to do it in an emergency! don't listen to the nay sayers....
Thanks pal 😊
Sorry Dave, I don't want to rain on your parade, but I have to say, that is a horrific way of doing a cambelt, particularly on this type of engine! many VVT engine are notorious for throwing up fault codes when the cam timing is not done correctly.
1. The crank and camshafts have to be locked and the cam pulleys need to be free to move on the cams when fitting the belt. This process makes sure the correlation between them is correct. The way you have done it presumes that it was correct in the first place, which it won't be with a new belt. Yes it will be close, but not correct.
2. You have no way of checking the tensioner & idler condition, which should be swapped at the same time regardless.
I have been a mechanic for 40 years and what you did just made me cringe 🥺
Hi, thanks for your input, I very much appreciate the guidance from those who know. I'm just a bodger, I understand how you feel, I'm a plumber by trade and when I see bad plumbing it makes me cringe. I'll double check the timings etc. The fault codes shouldn't be an issue, I'm running carbs and a very simple ignition module from a late Orion. Still yet to decide on the vvt setup, may even just ignore it 😉
You let yourself and the channel down with that cambeltchange timing could be out and could have worn idler or tensioner which should be replaced with the belt anyway
I did say it may be a terrible idea 😉
Dave, I have bit the bullet and ordered today R Tec 180 mig welder. I didn't need to tell her you told me to buy it. I grew a pair and told her I'm having it. I'm recovering with bruises only 😂😂
Hi Dave. Great work. Sent you an email. Hopefully 🤞 it helps
Got it! 😊
