The MSRP on this rod is $120, not $99. I knew this but for some reason I kept saying $99.

I have a few of the casting rods and have been pleasantly surprised on how well they work. Nothing special but get the job done and are very light for price range.

i own 6 St. Croix Premier rods, from light power to medium heavy. all are spinning rods. the biggest complaint i have with all the rods is that they're tip heavy. rear handle can be a bit longer too but not a deal breaker.

I like the St Croix actions. I have the old LTB in a 7'1 Medium Casting, and wacky and neko rigging with it I never lose a fish once I have them hooked. I have the 7'3 H/XF Victory as well. I meant for it to be my jig rod, but I ended up getting an old model 7 foot Heavy Expride on sale, so that kind of took over. I've been using the 7'3 Victory as a chatterbait rod. I toss 1/4 oz Jackall Dera Breaks with 3.5 inch spunk shad trailers. For it being extra fast, the spongyiness of the rod keeps the fish pinned and does a much better job then the SLX 7'0 MH Glass rod I got for it.

St. Croix might loose my business with the cheapening of their components. Going from Fuji and kegan to seaguide is a huge downgrade. Unfortunately a lot of other companies are jumping on that train as well which is a very concerning sign for the rod market. Since seaguide just knocks off fuji, I’m surprised Fuji hasn’t been able to hit them with the litigation yet. When this rod came out last year and I saw the components, I was furious even though I fully expected it. When I was in bass pro last week I noticed they had put a seaguide reel seat on the premier rods. I have several premier rods I’ve bought over the years and they always had the Fuji dps seat. The new seaguide seat feel like cheap plastic crap in comparison! At least for now, the avid inshores still have the titanium kegan guides and Fuji reel seats. I’m sure that will change with the reboot though. Whatever rod you like, I say buy it now before they screw it up with a “reboot”

    NEW addition to my rod-rack:
    (Drums roling)
    I bought myself a Loomis NRX+ 852 JWR
    Paired with an Exsence 3000
Does NOT disappoint fishing with it, cost me 550€ (+ 450€ for the reel)
I might get an 872 or 902 or the baby plugging P5

sea guides are great I have a couple rods with them and they work really well and pretty strong and really help make casting smoother and def just as good a fuji guides if not better in some models. I think they focused more on the bigger swimbaits for the bass x rod cause. I heard the baitcasting and larger H rod is a good rod and worth getting if u want good treble swimbait rod.

I know an old vid and they'vd replaced this bad boy since (basically the same), but gotta say that this thing in medium heavy is a tank. I used this one as my grass, lily pad, and frogging pole and was ripping them over the grass and pads. The only things that kinda suck are the thin grip and it being tip heavy, but its still a very light and decently comfortable pole.
I use the previous model as a cranking pole since it was crazy uncomfortable and can just seat the butt under my elbow and crank. The newer models are far superior.

  • @structurebe1
    @structurebe1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I have the exact same combo. Feels too tip heavy to me and causes hand discomfort after a few hours. Was rushing, but should’ve spent more and got the GCX medium fast and Vanford.

Is that rod avaible in 2 piece, I'm really interested, but cant find any 2piece.
I'm a backpacker, mostly in bicycle and cant keep a 7' rod on me while being on the road.
Even in my parents car, it wont even fit in.
    Thanks for feedback

I have owned the previous generation 7ft BassX spinning rod. It did suck somewhat. Guides were also not Fuji and pretty cheap and pretty bad. Guide spacing and action were odd. Balance seemed off. Grip was so-so. Also made in Mexico. raps somewhat inconsistent, but decent.
This one looks like a big improvement.

The bass x is alright. Like the blank and cork but don’t like the guides or grip. Cashion, Phenix , Powell, Major Craft or Falcon all make some nice rods around that price point.

  • @bassmastermatt

Have you recently joined St Croix's payroll and didn't tell us?? A BassX review and we still can't get you to do PF honest and detailed review on the Dobyns Xtasy line of rods? The universe may be crumbling when TH-cam's best high end rod review guy is doing a BassX review. Can't wait for the next spinning rod review, will it be the St Croix Triumph or Mojo Bass line of rods? 🙂 Still my favorite review channel. Keep on keeping on PF, looking forward to the next one.

Hey man, gotta diversify! What's funny is there are a LOT of people on St. Croix's payroll, but sadly I'm not one of them. They have like 400 guides and pro anglers in their "pro staff" across the world (crazy huh?). I'm not sure why everyone wants me to review the stupid Xtasy! I really can't stomach spending that kinda coin on a Dobyn's.

    • @nawinchester

@@PunchFishing other than hating the handle / grip, you'd love the Xtasy. It's a stick with all the components you love. With respect to St Croix payroll, we want you to stay neutral as it gets us all great and honest reviews. Stay neutral my friend.

I too like the Avid X line, especially the 2pc ML and M. Getting to some spots hiking it’s easier with a 2pc. And for auto transportation. Have them paired with a Daiwa Tatula LT. Just ordered up a 2pc MH RF 7’2 casting rod but it’s not a St Croix they seem to be going away from quality 2pc rods

It's funny that people stress over the rod guides. Iv been fishing over 40 years with 30 years fishing the cheapest rods on the market. With that said, I have never broken a rod or reel seat or guides!
Just the past 10 years I have stepped up my game with my rods and reels.
Only thing I can tell is the more expensive rods are just a little more sensitive and a whole lot lighter!
I just don't see spending more than $300 a rod. Anyway I like st. Croix rods, I have like 7 along with G Loomis. Most rods made in USA with a few made in Mexico.
