    Thanks for playing lower rated players and commenting on their moves respectfully and constructively. This is really helpful, unlike most other streamers who mostly play higher rated players or mock lower rated players for their moves. It's really appreciated :)

    If your rating is just below 1000 or in low 1000, you just saved about $70 just by watching this video for free of charge...
    Climbing the ladder video is FAR better than many of the "in-class" chess lesson...
    Thank you so much John...You will be blessed in many ways...

    At 35:30 I found it funny that you recognised that white wasn't threatening to trade queens due to the knight fork, but didn't see that you threatened to take his queen for the very same knight fork.

    I've seen people crumble easily against higher rated opponents, myself included. but I've noticed a great impact in my play by going into focus mode or zen mode if on lichess, as to not let the rating of your opponent intimidate you. that said, he played VERY well for his rating level

    Hey John! In the variation you went into at 35:32, after Qe2, I think you can get an advantage by taking the queen and fork the king and bishop after the night recaptures!
    Ke1 and Kg1 lose to Nxc2 double attacks, and Kf2 Nxc2, Rd1 Nb4 looks like it's winning the d3 pawn.

  • @SuperYtc1

    I found this video really instructive. I play the Sicilian a lot and I know quite a lot of the moves to do with e6 and d5 in response to bishop c4, which I know is an inaccuracy, but I mainly just knew this from looking over games and seeing the engine moves. So it's great to hear some analysis on why. Also on e5 you can play d5 straight away, this is one of the lines I know from looking at the engine analysis. You don't mind white taking f6 and g7 because it also helps develop your dark squared bishop. Although now thanks to this vid I might try out the slightly unfavoured (by stockfish) ng5.
    I really love these types of videos where you play weaker players and then explain your plans throughout and also what your opponent is doing wrong. When I finish the opening I'm often stuck on what to do, and it's super interesting to hear your thoughts at this stage in the game. You seem to identify targets to attack, improve your pieces to even better squares, and identify what your opponent's threats might or plans might be. Good to note. It's these plans that I kind of struggle to see. Do you recommend any good books for what to do after the opening is complete?

    Hey John, do you think that strategically, your play on the king side was better than maybe trying to reroute one of the knights to the hole on b4? That was just one of my first thoughts of the position after he created that hole and being lower rated it’d be nice to know why that plan isn’t the best in this position.

    Hey man. You,Hikaru, and (to a lesser extent) Gotham chess have taught me most of what I know about Chess. When you were analyzing that game and you saw the queen Bishop attack couldn't you do Bxe3 and if Bxe3 take with your Knight and win a pawn? And if he takes your Knight then take his rook?
    Edit: I'm 1580~ in Lichess but my goal is to breach 2000s in Classical and Rapid and then do the same on chess com. Then once I'm sure I know what I'm doing I plan on going to tournaments.

    I have really been enjoying your videos. I'm sure you are familiar with Silman's book "The Amateur's Mind" - I thought that book had a great concept of analyzing the way beginning/improving players play. I thought it would change my life (or at least my game) but it wasn't as game-changing as I hoped. Now I have the same hope about your videos, as you are taking that same concept but because it is video there is a chance to see a much greater variety of ideas and situations. It may still not budge my rating, but there's always hope...

  • @williamsquires3070
    @williamsquires3070 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think white only real blunder was wasting time moving the knight to a5; Nd2 would have been better (marginally), as it clears the way for b4 so white can fight black’s c-pawn, and it brings the knight closer to the center so it can hop to f3, or help control e4. Another path for white would involve moving the queen to d2, then Bc2->d1->e2, Then plop the queen back on d1 so he can plop the bishop on h5, as I don’t think black wants to trade the powerful knight defender on f6 for the bishop. Or, if all else fails, use the Jedi mind-trick on your opponent, “these aren’t the pieces you’re looking for. Move along.” Gets ‘em every time! 🤣
