Thanks for watching guys! This decision is really complicated, so I hope you learned the basics of what you need to know. What else do you want to learn about becoming an airline pilot?
I’d love to see just some videos of flights, with ATC audio also. Keep up the good work! Also, with experience, do you start flying bigger planes after more experience?

Good video. Glad to see Envoy being supportive. Commuting sucks, but sometimes it's a necessary evil. You did a good job laying out some of the pros and cons. I'm a commuter too, but my advice is to others is to live in base if you can. It's a totally different job when you can drive to work.

Very nice video; I've never seen your stuff before, but your content is very high quality. I'm a current Airbus Captain and have been at my airline 28 years, 18 of them commuting. Commuting is a complete and total grind and doesn't get better as you get older (though hopefully your trips will). There's reasons to do it (mine involved taking care of my Mom) and sometimes it's just the price of doing business, but I am so happy to drive to work now. BTW I am very impressed with the Envoy commuting arrangements, particularly the hotels. That's huge and pretty uncommon, certainly among the majors. I wish you the best and hope you have a great career! Fly safe!
Everyone calls me a 12 year old but I’m 19 and on my way to being in swaynes position. I hate it now but I will be happy to be baby faced in a few short decades!
I have been a commuter for most of my career. One of the considerations to keep in mind when deciding to move to base is the stability of the base. I have seen bases upsize and downsize, or even close completely. I have friends with Delta who moved to the Cincinnati area many years ago when it was a major hub, only to later be kicked out of the base when it downsized significantly. There are many Delta pilots who lived in the DFW area who either had to move or became commuters when Delta's major DFW hub was shut down. There are a few places where you can be relatively secure, ORD for United for example. But as unstable as mainline bases are, regional bases can be even worse. I have a friend from my first airline who had five bases close on hime at our first airline. We used to joke that he should bid for the small base where our company had its HQ because they would never close that, they had been there for decades. So ultimately he and his wife made the decision to move there. Four months after they moved, the company closed the base and decided to move the company HQ to another state.
Hey man, great video as always! Could you do a gear bag video. A review of your setup of both your flight bag and suitcase. Would be much appreciated. Keep up the awesome work!
Great video, man! It was short and very informative. Also brought back some memories as I was on the 145 with Eagle in ORD for a few months. Glad to see Envoy is much better than it use to be. Keep them coming man.

Great video, commuting is really frowned upon these days especially after Buffalo. The FAA should introduce FTL limits for commuters with this in mind e.g. crews can only commute if the duty is achievable if they were rostered by the Airline and rest periods again the same.
Swayne love the transition into true 121 Airline flying! These videos are so cool at detailing the ins and outs of airline life. As a pretty new flight attendant a lot of this is so relatable! It is a personal choice for sure. My wife is and FA and has a crashpad in her base. Commuting from our house to the airport and then to her base would be complicated so the crashpad helps. She does commute to other airports when she has picked up additional flights but she does have to go the day before or after depending on what they are.
Many years ago, I had a really bad experience flying with A'A and never traveled or allowed any of the foreign dignitaries that I advise to travel via A'A, but because of such AWESOME videos, the fact that Envoy allows this form of instructional/ entertaining videos, and music (where do you get it?) There's also a tax angle on going towards commuting. If you live in a state that doesn't have income tax but your closest base, in another state, has income tax, might be better off commuting to avoid state income tax especially if there is a base in your state. Example, living in Clark County, WA where PDX is the closest airport and willing to commute to Seattle.
