Does it matter what height you are? A basketball player with an 8 foot wingspan would have no difficulty working on large murals, but it might be impossible for a small-statured little person to get the proper perspective and he could only do miniatures.

How to avoid a portrait to become a mere meaningless representation of a person ?
I've been studying portrait for a while now but i can't be "artistic" as you are, i can't "put myself into the portrait". I can get resemblance though (good proportions also), but it's definitely not expressive, artistic, intentional as you are and in the end it brings no emotions. It's meaningless as a ordinary photo...
Any tips on how to be more authentic, make it more alive, meaningful, memorable ? Is that a common problem ?
I started studying portraits motivated by your videos, it would be wonderful if i could get an answer, thank you so much for your videos !!

You could try treating the portrait as a painting (a standalone peace of art). Make a smaller study without worrying about likeness first. Think about what you want to express.
Looking at the work of a lot of other (and very different) portrait painters can help. What are you drawn (haha) to? What resonators?

Thanks for the message! Lots of loose, quick sketching helps a lot with this. A familiarity with your subject matter is important too. Anything that makes the accuracy more automatic allows you draw in a more relaxed, loose and expressive way. Experiment some with bolder, expressive strokes and try not to overwork or blend away all the life and noise and chaos. I hope that helps Fabio.

    I just learned it's called a mahl-stick in English. 🤯
It's funny because the word derives from the Dutch "maalstok" and it seems to be unclear if it was the Dutch or the Germans who have been the first to use one.
Imagining the first artist quitting his job as a professional artist and making serious cash with manufacturing and selling mahl-sticks all around europe makes me silly giggle a little 😁
We needed 3000 years of evoulution to figure out that we'd be painting nicer pictures simply by using a stick 🤣
Yeh yeh, over simplified. Funny never the less 💁‍♂

Why is it a robot speaking and not the artist himself? What happened to the artist? Is the channel stolen?

@@dpelpal that's not his voice. Go back a few years and listen to his longer videos with commentary, completely different voice.
