    I think Destiny must have just missed it when he said this, but I was absolutely floored that Elijah's response to the question of how to rise up against the "evil" of medical transgender care was that "violence without a strategy" was bad, carrying the obvious implication that violence *with* a strategy could be acceptable.

    • @quin3578
      @quin3578 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      That's more just a bad faith assumption you're making there and that's where a lot of misunderstandings happen. Destiny likely did hear that, he's not perfect but he's not an idiot either. He just wasn't going to assume the worst in someone and start making baseless accusations

    • @cazcow
      @cazcow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      @@quin3578 Uhm, bad faith? Starting just after 1:06:08, his exact words:
      "As you saw from January 6th, violence or physical force without a proper strategy or plan is not a war. It ends up making you a honeypot. You end up being part of a target, and you end up paying the price for it."
      This immediately followed him referring to SRS surgeries as mutilation (which he specifically condemned for adults earlier in the discussion), and speaking of a need for revolution in the courts, with the only other alternative being violence.
      Is it possible he didn't understand the necessary conclusions of his statements, that violence with a strategy could be justified, and if the revolution through the courts fails, then that violence might be necessary? Yes, that's possible. But he should have ideally been pressed to question whether he was willing to fully own the position he expressed. I think Destiny was probably just preoccupied with preparing the delivery of his circumcision comment (which I did think was very appropriate and well-made).

    • @quin3578
      @quin3578 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

       @cazcow Again, you're just making a bad faith assumption and you're cutting out the full context of what he's saying. You basically just saying "He said strategy so he must mean STRATEGIC VIOLENCE!" when the only one making that claim is you. You start from 1:05:08 and the strategy he's talking about is people coming together to push their newest bill to LEGALLY label those surgeries as abuse. How about you link the time stamp where he recommends some kind of revolution or even uses the word?
      He clearly called anyone willing to commit to violence "honeypots", aka attractive political targets to further one's own agenda and arguments. In other words, I would go so far as to say he denounced such a thing as something that isn't a good idea and it would just be used against you. "You end up paying the price for it" as in it would just end badly for everyone involved. When he said strategy was necessary, I fully believe he was talking about the legal route that people were taking.
      Should he have been pressed to clarify his position to those who didn't understand? Sure if there's anyone in the audience not understanding him because that's what this whole conversation is for. Should he have formulated his words better? Honestly yea, but it can't be easy to speak in public like this in the first place and stay 100% comprehensible 100% of the time. Should we conclude that he absolutely meant violence was a necessary outcome when he basically called anyone who did attractive political targets who would probably pay the price? Absolutely not unless you just want to believe the worst in someone's view point in a conversation aka "bad faith"
      Destiny is clearly sitting there listening to him but I doubt he'd come to the same extreme conclusion you're jumping towards but apparently he's just not listening since he's not hearing things the same way you are. People like you are the issue when it comes to conversations like this because you take people out of context, knowingly or not, because they didn't "word things perfectly" in your mind or you're trying your hardest to find fault instead of trying to find understanding.

    • @cazcow
      @cazcow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@quin3578 The question that prompts his comments about revolution and violence starts at 1:02:30. Listen again but more carefully this time. There's no additional context to save him.
      I'm curious, are you a Destiny fan who's mistaking my comment for an attack on him or an Elijah fan desperately trying to help him save face?

    • @quin3578
      @quin3578 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cazcow "If you believe something is rigged, cheated or stolen, I would say that does leave leeway for a revolution." What about that is wrong? I would expect that from any american on either side of the aisle? No one in the country would sit there and be fine with ANYTHING they came to believe was a crime or abuse against the whole of the nation. He also clearly stated it as a possible consequence of such a thing happening. He also said that such actions aren't well thought out as opposed to supporting such things. Are YOU listening? You were right about one thing, there's no additional context to save him because its not even needed. Thats a very clear and cut truth about any nation where the people decide who is in charge.
      Also, there is a clear difference between saying that and actively calling for violence so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here. Also I'm hardly a fan of either one, doesn't mean i don't pay attention from time to tiem. You can try to label me or place me on one side or the other in the absence of a valid argument in order to try to lessen what I'm saying, but that's just kind of typical of people on the internet these days and fully expected at this point.

      We can identify some people who claim to be trans as having traits that appear to confirm their self reporting. We do not currently have a methodology to classify different types of trans people, ie, the social trans vs. the biological trans as Destiny points out.
      So, we can agree that trans people exist, but we cannot quantify how many are trans based on brain biochemistry based on how their brain developed rather then individuals who are trans based on social enticements working with other mental disorders.

Are there also eye colour labels, hair colour labels that may make me feel dysphoric about those features?
      I would have been in such a scenario a female with a brain that gives me typical for males features, preferences, personality traits and sex orientation toward females. That is all. Any dysphoria would have been mental problem that should be dealt with not by agreeing to call me a man.

    I feel like Elijah’s takes on the education system are painfully naive and privileged. As someone who has taught the past 5 years in Title 1 (majority poverty) schools, you absolutely can’t assume that every child has supportive parents or even parents who care about what their kids learn/do. I think his position is awfully idealistic. Some parents never answer communication from the school. Those are the kids who dread summer break because they would rather be in school with adults who do care. I feel like his position forgets the kids who need public education the most are the kids whose parents can’t or won’t do the work that teachers do for kids.

I'm starting to think you're all purposely trying to be disingenuous, because you can't all possibly be this stupid and dense. I've lived for 25 years and I there's not a day that's gone by that someone in someway expressed their sexuality one way or another. Every piece of media I've seen from my favorite kids movies in the 90s to middle school action movies, to everything today has a reference, depiction or allusion to sexuality. Almost every teacher I've know has at some point mentioned their partner, talked about them in length or at least reference them. In elementary school, some even had their spouse come to help with events and parties. For you people to start labeling all this as "grooming" and "perversion" just because you hate gays, is sad and truly pathetic. I don't have a personal conclusion about this debate and its various aspects, but I do have some ideas, doubts, and things I wonder about. When I was a kid, I was a very soft, shy, impressionable, "pretty" boy, and was often teased for looking "girlish" (often by girls). Thing is, I was also very "boyish" in most others ways, like personality, mannerisms and interests, etc. I didn't like the teasing, and it did effect my confidence greatly, but as I grew older and my peers got to know me, the teasing generally lessened more and more. My looks later even became a bit of an asset during high school.
    My point, though, or at least, what I'm wondering, is this - Would I have grown up/been influenced differently in this day and age (& by teachers even)? Ie. Is there an increased portion of kids these days who have become doubtful of their gender and/or sexuality simply _because_ of this major societal trend and focus on gender awareness/issues/politics? Ie. Could this, at least in part, be a root cause of so-called "gender dysphoria"?
    These are purely hypothetical questions of course, and not meant to offend. I realize my experience growing up is but one of a multitude. But I have to wonder how common it is that kids are swayed by "outward influence" rather than sticking their own knowledge of themselves and personal sense of identity. I fully realize that there are a certain percentage of people who are legitimately who/what they think they are, being an integral knowledge/feeling that they have had since birth. But there are also many kids, I think, like I was, that may "appear" one way early on, but as they grow, their (personally-chosen) identity becomes clear/understood. Or it may never be clear to them, because they're just very complex. Or they may be changeable.
    I think all parties should be very aware of this when discussing transitioning in kids. Otherwise it'll likely just add to the increase in depression and dysphoria.

    People identify as all sorts of things as societies become less judgemental. We didn't get a rise in people being gay since the 50s, we've had a reduction in the consequences for admitting you're gay. We've seen the same thing with atheism. In South Africa, you could lose your job for admitting you were an atheist. Now you can say it and it's illegal to discriminate against you, but there hasn't been a massive rise in people who are atheists, just the number who say they are. You can't catch being gay or trans.

      It also seems completely bizarre that you could have over 1% of people being trans and requiring surgery, it would have been a condition without any way to alleviate it for thousands of years.
      And when acceptance of left handedness came up, it took a long time for left handedness to increase over everyone.
      And right now the increase in possible trans happens overwhelmingly with young girl, which lends credence to the idea that most people desist if not affirmed

    • @unclescipio3136
      @unclescipio3136 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Kamfrenchie Well, for thousands of years, people needed root canals and couldn't get 'em. We've been able to offer trans surgery for way less than a century.
      Left-handedness didn't increase. People admitting they were left-handed increased. We still don't completely understand left-handedness, and it's not completely genetic. But in many cultures, there were religious bans against allowing children to use their dominant hands if they were left-handed. Even in my parents' generation, kids were forced to write right-handed by ignorant bigots, as kids are being forced into traditional gender roles right now by the same kind of people.
      It is entirely possible that some people think they're trans and aren't, which is why mental health professionals should be involved, but the suicide statistics for trans youth drop off a cliff when they're affirmed, so it's still better to err on the side of caution unless one wants dead children.
      Support for trans people is growing very fast, particularly outside of the shrinking Christo-fascist echo chambers, so hopefully all this will just become another thing, like racism, that used to be a problem.

    I agree circumcision is mutilation but I don't think its a specifically christian thing. Its more of a Jewish, Muslim and American thing. Christians in Europe don't do it. What sucks so hard about circumcision is that the person is given no choice in the matter. They just do it.

      @@tiraud105 It is absolutely not an astronomical amount. Not even close. At the end of the day a baby boy cannot even verbally consent to you cutting off the skin at the end of his penis, let alone have the foreknowledge to adequately understand the consequences. If you are performing a permanent procedure on a baby’s genitals without the baby’s consent, you better have an EXTREMELY good reason to do so. The studies are absolutely not even remotely close to that point and are often very conflicting in terms of its potential benefits where you can often just get the same benefits from having proper hygiene, and with there also being risks such as loss of sensitivity and sexual pleasure in the penis. The fact that there are many people who do wish they didn’t have their penis circumcised without their consent as a baby is enough to say that you really should not be performing non consensual permanent and non essential genital operations on baby boys.

      It does correspond with decreased risk of cervical cancer for the female as well as that of penile cancer for males. studies show a three- to ten-fold decrease in UTI rates in circumcised boys. The data speaks for itself.
