- Two numbers from the 2000 Broadway revival of "The Rocky Horror Show": Alice Ripley and Jarrod Emick in "Damn It, Janet," Fall 2000, and Terrence Mann as the "Sweet Transvestite," end of 2001. Mann took over the role of Frank-N-Furter from Tom Hewitt. Sebastian Bach was the new Riff Raff.
Can you believe Terrence Mann was 50 years old when he did this? Just look at that gorgeous, GORGEOUS skin!

@TheBrabon1 I can walk in heels, but I can understand a dude might struggle- but this is the greatest trans performance out there, you need to have practiced.
Terrence Mann is so versatile. He's originated and played so many iconic roles including The Beast and Javert.
I cannot get over Alice Ripley's acting in Dammit Janet. She's playing so much brilliant subtext into her reactions to Brad; she's sewing in all this doubt and compromise which beautifully foreshadows her actions later. It's awesome cause this is not the kind of show that necessarily calls for nuanced characterisation but rather someone adept at a broad, well timed caricature but she's doing both and it just grounds the character in a very relatable place without sacrificing the laughs.
Yeah it actually took me by surprise because I don't remember Janet starting out that way in the film but it's possible the original wrote her that way. Definitely puts a new spin on the character.

Psychology just makes the characters small and predictable, especially in a satire like TRHS.
I have worked with Terrence and his wife Charlotte before and they are both as fabulous! Terrence uses the anticipation line all the time when working with us. He is such a cool dude in real life.

Funny story. My family and I were visiting a couple of friends in the cast, and we exited with them through a company elevator. We noticed a guy was already in it, but didn’t stop to see who it was. I ask my friend, “So, who is replacing Tom Hewitt as the next Frank?” and she pointed to the random guy in the corner and said, “Well... HE is.” We look, and it’s Terrence Mann. 😆😆 We all had a good laugh, and he couldn’t have been sweeter. We went back to the show once his run started, and he was a-ma-zing.
Seeing Tugger trade in his fur for a corset is pretty wild, I love it.
Rum Tum Tugger still had a terrific voice. Terry Mann is an underrated singer and was the boldest and best Rum Tum Tugger of all the guys who performed the role in Cats.
Terrence Mann is the American Tim Curry! I always said that he was the only person who could do Dr. Frank other than Tim. I'm so lucky to have seen him as Rum Tum Tugger in CATS on Broadway.
I always linked Terrance Mann and Tim Curry in my head. Stuff like this is what makes the internet great! Thank you for the post!

Tim Curry came to see the revival this year. There's photos of tim and terry backstage that you can look up. He said he loved Terry's performance

I had to turn off the recent TV version of this show - and I thought I no longer appreciated the material. Then, I see terrific, wild, edgy performances as in this video and my love for ROCKY HORROR is restored. Brava/o Ripley, Emick, and Mann!

The 2016 remake was a joke.
They completely misunderstood what Frank N Furter was. Using Larverne Cox was a huge mistake.
That expression he makes at 6:47 like saying: " ... ¿you like it, don't you..? ¿Want some more..?" (LOL)
Terrence is awesome and just like Tim Curry, he must've looked impressive on that stage. He also looks amazingly hot.

OMG I LOVE Jarrod Emick's voice! He is awesome as Brad! I can't believe he didn't win another Tony for this performance - you are so lucky to have seen it live! I like Alice Ripley's portrayal of Janet as well and have long been a fan of Terrence Mann who, not surprisingly, knocked it out of the park here! Thanks for sharing this video!
Terrence Mann is the ONLY person that can/will do Tim Curry justice. Period.

The original Broadway production with Tim Curry is often forgotten; at least this revival stuck around for a year.

This show had such an amazing cast! Terrence also donned a sexy pair of heels in Lennon (I saw it pre-Broadway in SF).

I have always thought that Terrence Mann looked almost exactly like Tim Curry. I noticed it when he was in the movie Big Top Pee Wee. It's amazing how much he sounds like him too.

Still prefer the original by far but this was very well done. It's so far superior to the crap remake that has no energy, none of the wite, the smarm of Dr. Frank and the proper intonation that makes it a conversational piece. Well done. High energy. This is what a faithful interpretation that understands the material is all about.

imagine 1983 uk tour,(Angelsey island,N Wales,UK ...im age19 and go on stage first as a solo act,with a gillotine behind me (in case im that bad im thinking) i cannot see the masses of people as its a proper stage and the flood lights are on me,,, i start singing using there amazing PA and fill the hall with my singing,then its like everyone joins in and im a hit...thank you rocky"s stu

I wonder if Terrence Mann wasn't given good roles in movies bc he looked like Tim Curry and they already had Tim. Makes me mad that Terry wasted his potential on musical theatre, of all things. He deserved much more.

Does anyone have this full show? I paid a good amount for this recording and the DVD I got was almost unwatchable. :( If anyone has this I am willing to pay for it. I'm so mad I was scammed. Seeing the quality here makes me so frustrated! It's the same performance and my copy looks awful and skips all the time (referring to the Alice recording)

I saw this show several times. So wonderful. I know I saw Raul but not sure with Terrence or Tom. Either way, fantastic. Also you can spot baby Matthew Morrison for a second.

It's too bad they did not do a sequel to rocky horror (not brain damage) and Terrence Mann could play rocky's brother..they could pass for siblings..
Well, if MAYBE he hadn't changed the costume into a friggin corset, he might have done it some justice. Furthermore, they didn't even keep the word's in the song on point, like Tim Curry!!! I WILL NEVER EVER FORGET the very first time that I had ever heard of it. December 1983, my twin sister and I were 17 year's old and going to Graduate in May of 1984. DAMNIT, IT WAS OFF THE HOOK!!! If you KNEW my twin, we were total opposites. Her and her friend's we're the uppity type, very hair ribbon in they're hair and blouse's that buttoned all the way to her friggin neck. Me I was THE FREE SPIRIT, LEVI'S, High heels, and I had the body to make it look good. Point is, it floored the hell out of me that my sister, who I'm a whole 20 minutes older than, turned ME on to THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW. I WAS IN SHOCK!, that she knew about it, and I had never even heard of it. But, that night, thing's changed for me and my sister. We had become the very best of Friend's and we still are TODAY, which is, September 29th, 2021!!!! And I remember it like it was only yesterday. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a RIGHT OF PASSAGE, that ALL teenager's, being so very different from everything, can HONESTLY let you find YOURSELF and it let's you UNDERSTAND THAT IT'S ALRIGHT TO BE DIFFERENT, and BE YOURSELF, if your lucky enough to REALIZE, it's okay to be YOURSELF AND BE WHO YOU ARE, EVEN IF YOU HAVEN'T FOUND YOURSELF YET. THAT'S IT & THAT'S ALL!!! I REST MY CASE PEOPLE!!!!

Alice Ripley and Sebastian Bach were really off, overreacting, overplaying and shouting more than actually singing. Bach is always shouting, even when plays Jesus.
But the rest of the cast was really strong and nice to look at! Terrence does a terrific job.
Ripley is extremely beautiful until she opens her mouth, no offence :(
