If you are wondering why you can see your own player model, it's because deadrop doesnt use replication which is common place amongst FPS games. whilst the concept of "replication" in FPS games is quite complex to implement, traditionally, you render a client side viewmodel which will jsut be the guns and typically those are tied to a camera which is contained within a player "instance" for each player you have another instance be spawned, but this poses an issue where you will see just floating hands everywhere, instead, replication is a complex but most definitely necessary process, as alongside your camera and viewmodel you carry with you a node containing your position and current action. This is so that for each player that you see it will read their node and generate a local player model that only you can see, whilst disabling their local hand view models. for that player performing said action. This is why in most games you dont get extremely weird contorted models doing everything, and instead you can get a modeller / animator to make you extremely detailed first person animations and models, without caring what they look like outside of first person because the only person who will see them is you, and likewise you can focus on having really well animated and defined third person models which you will only see on other players. Whilst this process is hard sure and takes additional dev time, it will give you a better product, typically when making extremely low or zero budget indie shooters, the replication process is avoided and instead you just use a single model with a camera stuck in the head, such as what deadrop is doing, it strikes me as one of three options: 1. They didnt want to pay animators / modellers / textueres to generate 2 sets of anims and models 2. They couldn't be bothered to implement replication 3. They don't know what replication is and have no idea how to implement it at all
yes exactly so you send your info to the server such as location, rotation, current action etc, that information is then relayed to every player on the server except for your self, so everyone that is not you when looking where you are will see a full 3d model, on your screen you just see floating hands for yourself@@williamdrum9899

7:14 in fairness, the idea of racing to the battleground rather than everyone just being launched, and having the chance to sabotage your opponents before the match would be a good one with a team who’s capable of it
In a game where all characters have the same speed u either need a mechanic that make that part different and also at the same time not make someone have way more advantages than the others or it not, turn into which exploits cam you find
Needs work, but it can be done. We have seen PUBG and Fortnite do this well with the parachuting out a plane or bus. From the way Jauwn described it though I would say they need to add a minimap or something, because if you are playing it for the first time then you truly have no idea which spot would be more adventagous to go for thus making it worthless. Might be one reason that one person was so late to arrive to the tower lol. Also as a race mechanic it should give you some type of bonus or advantage for being there first but it doesn't which also partially negates a reason for rushing. Again with fortnite you arrive first and that gives you an opportunity to get better equipment to arm yourself with. In Dead Drop from my understanding you are already equipped and can only get other equipment from other players. Hence being the first doesn't offer a tactical advantage other then being able to climb sooner which unless you are playing would make for a boring spectacle for audience members lol.

The racing segments are unintentionally hilarious because there's one other extraction shooter I can think of which also has all its rounds start with a vehicle combat section, it's called Marauders. In Marauders the vehicle segments are also completely silent, but unlike Deadrop where they're silent because no effort was put in, in Marauders they're silent because they're in space and it's a deliberate design decision. Deadrop's own incompetence accidentally made it more obvious what they're knocking off.
Marauders is awesome and every Deadrop player should go play that instead. The vehicle combat at the start also lets you choose a map to go to for your run. It's made by an even smaller team than this game and is way more fleshed out.
There are a number of really great vertical FPS, but they do something quite different than this game. They give the player abilities to move vertically. Climbing ladders sucks, it takes control away and is just moving slowly up while you hold W (seriously they cant even add a way to fire while climbing?). Halo has jump pads, the finals has ziplines, titanfall has wallrunning. Those games let your verticality be constantly changing and often have incentive to not just stay at the top (sightlines, objectives, whatever). Here "verticality" just means standing on a platform, its really lame
I honestly think they should just reverse the whole thing, like legit. Spawn on the top of the tower, and escape out the bottom, and the car driving is like the last minigame, before you extract successfully. The last moment of hype and hurrah as you race down the road blasting some good beats. I think that way the cars would make sense too, like in your mind there wouldnt be this tower with a bunch of cars parked around the base, only for the owners to just leave out the top of the map. Cars just sit there and, does anyone come back for them? CAn the car drive itself back to your base?. Im telling you, DOC if you see this, or any of the DEV team, try inverting the idea, and see how it feels. SPAWN AT THE TOP, FIGHT TO LEAVE THE BOTTOM.
This seems like a great suggestion actually. My only concern is that with racing games, even something like a 3 second head start can give you a guaranteed win. But if the racing portion is just a bonus it's fine
It's not just the monitors, our entire sense of sight works like that. We're way too big for anything in the sky or below ground to threaten us (with the notable exception of leopards but they also don't like messing with us or our more recent evolutionary ancestors), and have been for tens of millions of years, so we tend to just not look up or down, our attention focused entirely on our horizontal surroundings. Especially at attention and searching for threats. Even our eyes live in horizontal slits and have better sideways range and ease of movement. All of that is why the monitors are like that, horizontal space is just much more valuable than vertical. It's why people don't look up in 3D games, be it Portal or FPSes. Square monitors didn't die out because of technological requirements, they died out because the technological capabilities allowed us to create more horizontal ones. Also why movie screens were always horizontal. Our minds don't really live in a 3D world, they live in a 2D world with some vertical additions.

I actually just commented this on the other video, but a game that has patch notes that are 1/2 trying to sell you something, 1/4 adding things that are bedrock, essential functions (forming squads, different servers for different continents, etc) and only 1/4 of actual nuts and bolts gameplay tweaks and bug fixes, is not a good sign. Good thing this isn't on steam or we'd actually be able to see player counts lmao

Scope creep is a great way to say what's happened to this game. I feel like the vertical gameplay could work if it was a high mobility game with wallrunning (like Titanfall) or a jetpack, make the focus on the movement. But this runs counter to the extraction style of gameplay of holding angles and careful positioning. The whole car minigame is a lot of work done to make the game worse. The Party Bus / Drop Bus is quick to get into and easy to see where to drop and where others are spawning in. The car would seem like a real pain in the ass to have to do every time and to even guess where others going to be in the map. Idk, just looks like there is no clear direction.

Would you spend $10 on an incomplete game that _might_ *eventually* become something, or would you spend it on, for example, GMod and gain access to a metric ton of already completed content alongside an entire library of mods whose creation is aided heavily by pre-built game functions? Just because you have the disposable income to buy a golden turd (why is the term "golden turd" even so common?), doesn't mean said turd becomes more valuable to anyone else.
You can literally pay twice that for a feature complete indie title with working gunplay that feels, filled lobbies and vechicles that make sense, and if you don't want that, well, there's EfT. And if you don't want _that_ for any reason, there is at least 2 seperate extraction shooters on the market and two more coming out soonish, one of which will likely be free. "Cod bad cause Franchise skin available to buy in shop" *makes a 5% finished game and sells nearly full priced AAA Microtransactions to 3 Players* I stopped listening and caring about Doc because he does nothing but complain endlessly about the games he plays. He plays Call of Duty for hours a day and never stops complaining about it, constantly contradicting himself about the game, and creates Anti AAA game discourse. Yes AAA companies can be scummy (Ubisoft removing The Crew from people's libraries with no refunds) but to complain about that company while also having your brand be built on Cod related content, and streaming Cod almost exclusively, AND THEN go make an unfinished game while selling overpriced Cosmetics is just the pure definition of hypocrisy. He's no better or worse than the AAA company selling $30 Battle Pass's on a game that just launched a week ago, He's just as bad. The thing he gets wrong complaining about Cod having MTs in the game when it just launched is that they don't immediately roll out the MTs right at the games launch. MW3 did this recently but there was a reason for it. When Call of Duty Vanguard released, I played the game from Launch day, and it took Activision 2 Weeks to introduce Season 1 of that game. They had also updated the game and fixed Day One bugs, so when the season started, people wouldn't have a miserable time going through the BP. So for 2 whole weeks, Vanguard felt like an Authentic Old fashioned Cod game, because there no MTs and there were Unlockable outfits and weapon skins. MW2 did this as well when it launched in 2022. No MTs, no BPs, and no Stores. Just a Campaign, Warzone 2, Multiplayer and COOP Missions, as well as the new DMZ mode. HIS game launched with barely any content, and it already had MTs in it, and worse, NFTs. In Conclusion, if a Streamer is crying about a particular video game, but still plays it for hours every stream, and then goes and makes a game or helps make a game, only for it to be worse than a Poorly made AAA game (Skull and Bones) just click that Unfollow/Unsubscribe button because they will MURDER you're enjoyment of AAA games. I'm not trying to relentlessly defend AAA Companies, but they still release fun games, like EA with NFS, Activision with Cod, Ubisoft with Far Cry, and Capcom for Resident Evil. Yes the Money making practices have gotten worse, but they haven't gotten to the point of Paying $70 for a game and then being forced to buy at least 1 Microtransaction. As long as it stays as just an Option and not a Requirement, I'll happily pay $100 for the Vault Edition of Call of Duty Black Ops Gulf War coming out this year.

Whilst this process is hard sure and takes additional dev time, it will give you a better product, typically when making extremely low or zero budget indie shooters, the replication process is avoided and instead you just use a single model with a camera stuck in the head, such as what deadrop is doing, it strikes me as one of three options:
1. They didnt want to pay animators / modellers / textueres to generate 2 sets of anims and models
2. They couldn't be bothered to implement replication
3. They don't know what replication is and have no idea how to implement it at all
Very interesting! Thanks for this writeup, it really explains a lot about this game
@@jauwn thankyou for a really enjoyable video
So in other words, other players see your whole model but from your point of view you're just a floating pair of arms holding a gun?
yes exactly so you send your info to the server such as location, rotation, current action etc, that information is then relayed to every player on the server except for your self, so everyone that is not you when looking where you are will see a full 3d model, on your screen you just see floating hands for yourself@@williamdrum9899

In a game where all characters have the same speed u either need a mechanic that make that part different and also at the same time not make someone have way more advantages than the others or it not, turn into which exploits cam you find
Seems VERY hard to balance

The whole car minigame is a lot of work done to make the game worse. The Party Bus / Drop Bus is quick to get into and easy to see where to drop and where others are spawning in. And if you don't want _that_ for any reason, there is at least 2 seperate extraction shooters on the market and two more coming out soonish, one of which will likely be free. Why would you become an pre-alpha tester and spend anywhere from 10 to 400 dollars when you can pay and play for literally anything with the fraction of the cost.
I’m glad this channel exists so we’re able to at least observe and laugh at these mockery of “video games” instead of just shy away from all crypto related projects like sane people
How disgustingly rich and apathetic do you have to be to justify spending $100 on lunch every day tho?
Or just giga-obese

Either that or they've never experienced hardship *ever* and have no concept *whatsoever* of what money is really worth to throw that much money for a meal every day.
Sounds like a classmate I had who was spending roughly $2000 per month on food and it was all her boyfriend's money. She apparently enjoyed eating out and ordering skip the dishes and did it every day without thinking about it. There's a lot of stupidity going on in this situation and I'd imagine that commenter is probably in a similar setup.

Wow, I am a huge Halo fan and have somehow never realized the crosshair was lowered on the screen. That's a crazy interesting detail that I just didn't think about but makes so much sense.
HALO was designed by the creative lead at DEADROP. Thank the guy who's making DOC's game. He designed HALO.

I like how the bandage animation is essentially the same as rusts but rust actually shows the bandage being used not looking like I’m doing the chicken dance after receiving brain damage like in Dr dis respects game
Man I recognized so many unreal store plugins and assets in just a few minutes.
The sliding doors for example I am pretty sure I used in an apartment I built for a fangame. They were a totally free asset too.
They even came with built in events so you don't have to program in open and closing them like you would normally.
The extraction helicopter is a free asset too. I showed a few other examples in my 2nd video on the game (this is my third)
That streamer imitation was honestly so accurate.

If they really want to change the gaming industry, and bring back the good old days, they should have made Deadrop run in 4:3 aspect ratio. That's why vertical map design was way more common in games like Quake and Unreal than it is now. Back then, all games were 4:3, so you could see much more up and down than you can in today's standard 16:9.
obviously i get your focus on the negativity, but I always love when you note what you like or find okay about these games (the new map, the aesthetic of the car section, ect :D)
I like the driving to a drop off point part, not for strategic reasons, just as a replacement of the "getting ready" screen, but it shouldn't be a race or whatever, it should work as a lobby so you can talk and have upbeat music playing and drive leisurely.

These videos have been really entertaining. I found your channel a while back and then went and watched all of the videos. It's been pretty funny watching your ever decreasing patience for their bull.
You have far more patience than I do, Good luck and try not to go insane. I know I would have to make at least two videos in between a crypto one to keep my sanity. Or torture my friends with it as well. That would probably work too.
In all honesty I really enjoy making content on these crypto games because it allows me to go wild with my own creativity. The games are so boring and dumb that it's up to me to provide all the entertainment
@@jauwnYou definitely do a good job of making it fun and enjoyable. I guess I was thinking about playing these as a gamer who just wants to have fun. I'm glad you enjoy doing this because I sure as hell enjoy watching it.
Also people in general just don't look up. This probably a good explanation for that but I would just be guessing.
I love "people do not look up". I remember a lot of my trickery in S4League was simply attacking from above, preferably by running behind a wall while being chased and then wall jumping up.
This isn't just games, people don't look up IRL either.

"Cod bad cause Franchise skin available to buy in shop"
*makes a 5% finished game and sells nearly full priced AAA Microtransactions to 3 Players*
I stopped listening and caring about Doc because he does nothing but complain endlessly about the games he plays.
Literally just came here to see the recent disrespecting of pediatrician disrespect in the comments. Absolutely beautiful
lmao, the tweet of the cryptobros who went blind because of the UV lights
I just watched a Josh Strife Hayes clip where he talks about having principles and the conditions on which he would sell out, even if it means looking like a hypocrite. The video was about how and why he rejected a sponsorship from Blizzard for WoW, an absolute power move by this british dude that I got to admire thanks to a series similar to the one made on this channel. His 8 minute talk about this was amazing and even inspiring.
And then I watch this scam game and Mr. Disrespect stuttering about bad practices in videogames because "he didn't grow up with that". Comparing the quality and delivery of the exact same critisism between these two figures makes a contrast of literal black and white...
