Everytime I miss my old Land Rover I came to watch one of your videos and remeber how LR Live really is a struggle to keep it runing and how deceptive the result of any botch or proper repair be. Thank you a lot. You're helping a lot od people I guess to forget the LR Live and their hidden surprises even on newly "repaired" ones.

This is nice video to how not do it in any case in my opinion. Thanks for that, lets hope that defender owners avoid this method.

Crazy! this is a structural part. P40 is fibre glass with very little strength, sit back and think about this in the cold light of day. This is something like we did in the 70’s and 80’s it wasn’t good then and certainly not good now.

He must've rather used PU foam and save a lot of filler.

I think a lot of people commenting negatively didn't listen to the reasoning behind this. The front guard is being replaced also, yet it was repaired as a temporary fix until a later date.

I refuse to believe that is acceptable to an MoT tester. If I am right (and my cars have failed MoTs for much less), then the vehicle is unroadworthy. So, what then is the point of the "temporary repair"..?

@@manokent Fair call about the MOT. I thought this was to just tart it up while it has some product development done on it, in particular with the dash? But the rest of the points are still valid and it will be better than before with a new bulkhead vs a patch repaired bulkhead.

Bodge. Get your welder out and do it properly. Its work like this that gives old LR's a bad name. Pity the poor soul that buys it after its been hit with a nice paint job and told its a professional restoration.

I would avoid this repair at all costs, considering the relative cheap parts to weld a new section in. However if you’re going to replace the bulkhead soon then I get it. You’re going to get a lot of haters on this one mate.

you're asuming any structural capacity to the alumium body on frame, don't you? to my knowledge the only structure is the chassis frame and the optional anti-roll cage you can fit and attach to it... I wouldn't ride one without one though again...

@@InternetListener The bulkhead is steel, This corrosion would fail the MOT because it's within 30cm of the body mounting at the base of the bulkhead, a glass fibre repair just isn't acceptable here.
      6.2.2. Cab and body mounting
You only need to inspect vehicles with a separate body and/or cab. Class 3 vehicles do not need to be inspected for cabs and cab mountings.
You should assess for corrosion within 30cm of the mountings of the body or cab and its chassis

@@andicog Steel parts on a Land Rover Body have two main functions:
      - Rust formation.
      - Galvanic corrosion of aluminium parts.
Otherwise they would've used aluminium only or some magnesium anode protection layer in between or stainless steel. UK knew some siderurgy back in the 1950s I guess when LR R+D was done with paper and pencil.

"You should really do the job properly " so you don't do the job properly with a specificly formed repair panel, you filler a part of the vehicle that is necessery for strength. Weld a metal repair section in the bulkhead! Why compromise on safety and bodge the job when the repair section is about £30... With filler you're actually creating more water traps with bodging the job. The other thing is if the vehicel is involved in an incident and it comes to light you did this to it, you could be liable for any injuries caused because of your shoddy workmanship.

I am sorry for the negativity of this comment, but I was genuinely shocked and disappointed. I believe you should take this ill-judged video down.
You may claim it is a "temporary repair", but I would be very surprised if this was something acceptable to an MoT tester...which would suggest the vehicle is no longer roadworthy.
Furthermore, what are you suggesting to viewers is appropriate as a repair to a structural component?

In the 70's it was mandatory to use today's newspaper so less mesh was needed 🤣😂🤣 Then those who had to make it right could see how long ago it was bodged, usually sills and corners of wheel arches were filled over this way.
You could have used the rotten part you cut out, made a card template or even just cut from your repair section you already had and welded in fresh metal in minutes for a proper fix, to the structural component of A-pillar and your steel bulkhead.
I have not seen a repair needing welded bodged like this since the 1970's. What a waste of time and terrible way to influence folk looking for a quick fix at home.
Bodging in my woodland with a bill hook is one thing, but on a structural steel component is quite another 👎
