I like the review of the guitar pedals! But one thing that sometimes I want to correct people on because I in all honesty didn’t know about until my Audio Processing and Ear Training class, the so-called “tremolo” control on guitars are actually named incorrectly. They should be called VIBRATO control. Tremolo effects the pulse and acts more like a quick delay, but the feedback does not diminish. Vibrato effects the pitch, like when you push or pull the guitar string on the neck. This same feature is labeled incorrectly on the Fender amps as well! 😱 this blew my mind too when I found this out but it helps when truly understanding what tremolo vs vibrato are, since they are somewhat similar and are easy to confuse 😊 I love your videos by the way!
Would you consider a "best of cheap overdrives/distortions" episode? Since many guitarists start building their pedal collection with "distortion/overdrive" this seems like a great place to have a top 5 list. Love your "lower budget" view on gear. We must learn to live within our limits, yet we still "wanna rock"!!!
I have a pedal called Holy War... aquired from Amazon...it is really nice... I think I am going to aquire a few more of these mini pedal... I have had it a little over year and not disappointed this thing Rock's and then some...
I bought the reverb pedal off Amazon. It lasted about 6 month’s. Shorted out in the middle of worship practice one night. I really loved it while it worked.
I snagged one used and it honestly has a really tin like sound to it. So far in my searches the EHX Holy Grail is the cheapest reverb I've found to do the job well
Eq can also be used as a clean boost. All those pedals are gig worthy. The only drawback on the wah is if you want a cocked wah setting for a solo, you’re constrained to the pedalboard. The chorus is really a sweet deal.
I really appreciate you mentioning the accessories such as the six inch patch cables AND daisy chain . It's easy to forget about such details if you're a beginner like me . You are a good dude .
If anyone is watching this now, I did my whole pedalboard (10 pedals) in the plant wave/d'addario patch cables. Very flexible and they sound great. The actually allow a wee bit more high-end and sustain through.
Hey bud, good video. I think you should know that the "tremelo" bar on your guitar provides a vibrato effect, not actual tremelo so don't worry about using it at the same time with a tremelo pedal. Those are two different types of effects. One modulates pitch while the other modulates amplitude or volume.
Awesome video man. Especially for those on the low end of the learning curve like me. What impressed me the most was the fact that you USED & PLAYED the pedals for a few months BEFORE making the video, unlike some guys. That way we get more honest feedback on what the equipment is like, not just at unboxing but having some miles put on them. Thanks again.
Great vid bro. Don't forget @16 minutes. If buying a daisy chain power supply check the amp (current) ratings on your pedals. They may all be 9 volt but the amps may be different. If you connect a 1000 mA psu to a 500 mA pedal you'll blow the pedal.
Definitely a much bigger fan of you filming at your desk. Makes it feel a lot more inviting and less cheap. Killing the stock sounding background music would do some serious wonders. I see plenty more subs coming your way with the new set up.
I appreciate all the work that has gone into the video, you are a good man. It was also very nice of TomTop to send them to you, their prices certainly are better than Amazon. It’s hard to make everything sound good. With all due respect though, every one of these sound like they are worth almost what you pay for them. They all sound very thin no matter what adjustments you tried to make. Each one also had the “cheap pedal super loud POP” when you pressed the button. On the other hand, pedals are like guitars somewhat, you really have to learn how to use them, there is a learning curve. Why spend the big bucks on the name brand pedals, just to find out that you don’t really like the sound and now you can’t afford any more pedals and now that big buck pedal is going to sit on a shelf or in a drawer for the next ten years. Grab a cheap pedal and learn how to use it, learn what pedals work together and which ones don’t. It will make you a much more rounded guitar player. Enjoyed the video, see ya next time! Regards, Buddy
Or you could walk into a music shop and ask to try out the type of pedal you are looking for from several different manufacturer. Lets face it, you'd test drive a car before buying, and you'd test play a guitar before buying too wouldn't you? and it's really about what YOU think it's done for your tone anyway.
Getting "your" tone as a reference is tricky at the local music store, especially if an amp similar to what you use isn't available. I do agree with learning how to use what you have. It's real easy to dismiss a pedal or guitar because of what is sounds like at the shop. Even worse when you get it home and it's terrible on your setup.
the studio desk is a great background...as long as you do one thing, identify the instruments on the wall. and why you chose them. keep up the good work.
Your channel is awesome. Everything is so well presented, informative, and witty. Great review on these pedals. The reverb and wah sound surprisingly good, especially for the price point.
Like the new view. Also, Monster’s warranty isn’t applicable in store any more. You have to contact them to get your lifetime warranty. Just don’t want anyone to be as depressed as I was walking into guitar center and right back out again with my broken cable.
I love the new view! Much sleeker. The greenscreen is good because its easier when editing and overlaying text, which is nice, but i feel the small extra effort in the videos for the upgraded background is well worth it. It seems much more professional and its much more aesthetically pleasing imo
The line 6 hx effects is a great value for what it does. It can replace a $3000 board all in one unit. I looked into the mini pedal route before and it is a solid option but if you get into more complex switching and looping you can’t beat something like an hx. But if you just run a couple of pedal into the front of an amp probably not for you.
EQ pedals: Step 1: put one before your gain stage, and one after your gain stage. Or if you're really patient, buy just one and keep moving it back and forth. Step 2: be amazed at how different things are when you change one vs the other. A common thing to do is boost mids before your gain stage, and then either boost high/low or cut mids (slightly) after your gain stage, for a nice full sound. YMMV when in a band setting and not practicing in your basement. ;-)
Thats kinda what Dimebag did. He had a 6 band eq boost the mids in front of the amp and had a parametric eq (and possibly another graphic eq) in the effects loop cutting/changing the mids.
The part marked with "OOPS" at 12:10 really made that part awesome. I mean, not the "OOPS" marking, but the sound that happened at the time. That sound transmittied emotion!
The studio desk is much more personal and, as weird as it may sound, adds some "warmth" to your presentation. I think you'll be getting a lot of votes for keeping it.
Assacaster? When I play my Assacaster, people usually leave the room. As a beginning guitar player on a dental floss budget (as opposed to a shoestring), I have been a bit wary of pedals. They always seemed too expensive and I didn't know how they would effect the sound. Now that I know that these less expensive pedals are available, I may have to invest in a couple and experiment a bit. Thank you very much for posting up this review and for part 1. I really appreciate it.
Great info, love what you're doing! Been a sax man most of my life , got into a bass for the worship team few years ago now I am trying to learn guitar. I always get something from your videos keep up the great work
I dont mean to be so offtopic but does any of you know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account? I was stupid lost my login password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me
@Johnny Ricardo Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Was stoked to see the Mooer Wah-ter in there. I got one a few months ago, was just in Guitar Center taking back a broken Cry baby i got from em, used, and traded it back to get the only wah there I could get with the refund $$, the Wah-Ter. This thing IS built like a damn tank. It feels like an old lead paperweight. This thing weighs a ton for its size. and the little flip out bars to enlarge the surface trigger stomp area, its a really cool design. I never used it with clean guitar, just distorted, and I can say, the sound and sweep and tone in general is better than a standard cry baby IMO. But i think it comes down to personal preference, I dont think either one is better than the other. Just a matter of which you prefer as far as design and sweep angle/ tone shape. I love it. I wish they added the little fold out bars for the bottom to stabilize it a hair more, but with it velcro'ed to a board, its ok. def worth $65 or so. Im gonna grab that chorus and EQ possibly too. Thanks for the demo, I just always wish these were done with em played in a straight DIRTY tone, so with a distortion added, and then demo with it clean too. So thats my only gripe, is not hearing what these pedals sound like with a distorted signal chain.
New setup is cool, green screen is also cool, i really enjoy it when you're doing technical tutorials (wiring, etc..). I've watched that jag bass video probably 20 times, so glad to see it hanging there
You kinda missed one of the main uses of an eq pedal. You ever wonder how to get that tight 'scooped' metal guitar tone? Or how to get that Boston sound? Put it in your amps effects loop or after a distortion pedal. It changes the tone waaay more drastically.
Agree a good EQ will shape all your guitars if you are working one amp, GE-7 from Boss is a one of the best, that Ammoon looks pretty good for the price, keep upi the great work !!
I have the rowin noise-gate and it’s actually great! If your board has a lot of background noise it does the job and its not 100 dollars like the boss pedal
I was wondering just yesterday if you were going to dive into pedals again. We’re psychically linked, I guess. Also, I dig the studio desk setting. It feels like another “lab” view, much like your work bench setting does.
I have been thinking of getting some new effects lately, but when i think about it, i think my computer is the ultimate effect rack. Already got the "Komplete 11 Ultimate" software package from Native Instruments, and it has a pretty substantial selection of effects to choose from. The Guitar Rig software is really nice, and have some really nice modulation possibilities that you usually dont get on hardware effect modules. The price of this software is 200€, but it comes with a lot of really nice effects. Many different delays and reverbs and distortion and guitar amps and cabinets, +++ - and TONS of presets. So very good value for the money. The Reflektor reverb (which comes with Guitar Rig) is PHENOMENAL, and if i had to choose between only that single reverb effect VS some reverb effect pedal for 200€, im pretty sure i would go with Reflektor... That thing is VERY versatile, and have some really cool functions that i have not seen in any other reverbs... And a big advantage that ALL software effects have over hardware, is that you can add as many instances of it as you want. You can of course route several instruments through a single effect unit - but you will not be able to add independent settings for each instrument - like if you want room reverb on one thing, you cant set it to more spacy reverb on another sound source... Then you need to purchase another one... I see why people buy analog synths, because the digital ones usually dont have enough modifiers to create good analog emulations without using up most of the modifiers... But when it comes to effects, i never really understood why analog effects sound nicer than digital... Then again, im not too familiar with analog effects. Am i just stupid???
A vox wah is cheaper and in my opinion sounds better than that wah and most crybaby pedals. I can't remember how much cheaper and I know it's not a mini pedal, but as far as wahs go that's more my thing. The donner/caline wah seems similar to the mooer, but no surprise there. You should try out some caline pedals they are honestly super awesome for the money. I have had some expensive boutique stuff, and some custom made pedals for me to my specs. I had a noise maker hipster pedal which is handmade in America and is a rad company who makes those pedals affordable, and still ended up using a caline pure sky over that hipster. For as much as your on tomtop, and Amazon these pedals would be easy for you to get.
Awesome video. Awesome guitar. Only suggestion would be about the balance of sound. The mics were picking up the raw guitar sound In the room (coming straight from the strings) and sometimes it was hard to hear the pedals over the dry sound.
Well, I just took a flyer and ordered a Joyo version of the MXR Carbon Copy. (I have two digital delays, but really want the low fi vibe of analog) So we'll see if it is a screaming deal, or just wasted $40.I'm actually quite happy w/ my Danelectro Digi Delay. Goofy control layout, but 600ms, doesn't add color to sound and was like $30 new, so I'm hopeful. Rock on brother.
Great video, Dan, as always. Just as idea for next video - how about your suggestions about one chain of affordable effect pedals that will work with guitar and bass both? Or, maybe, just show these pedals that you already have with any of your basses.
great vid Dan ! really interesting I know this is off topic but I just re-leveled my Strat and crowned them with your tool, guess what ? it give me perfect super awesome results (better than a tri file for sure..) !! thanks for the help man keep rockin' \m/
Since I got into the comments early, I wanted to say what a great channel this is. Great premise, unpretentious and doesn't make things hard for people.
Banggood has basically the same stuff at the same price. I have ordered tons of different things from them and I have no complaints. Might be a good idea to check them out as another alternative source for good cheap products
One that I have and am fairly impressed with is the mooer e-lady or elec lady, which is a mini clone of an EHX Electric Mistress. It is NOT quite the same as my Deluxe Electric Mistress, but it comes surprisingly close, and (a) it doesn't need AC, and (b) it's less than one quarter the size. BTW, another cheap vendor for these is Aliexpress. I found the Ammoon EQ, for example, for the same price as Tomtom, but with free shipping, on AE.
Love the knew filming spot! I think it's good to use both, just switch it up from time to time. Also, maybe consider putting up the channel logo somewhere behind you? Like in that corner over the printer would look cool!
Hey, I have that reverb and it sounds good when playing alone/solo BUT it will not cut thru the mix of a full band very well - especially in a studio/recording situation. A good reverb will cut thru a mix with excellent high end harmonics and transients. That little verb is cool for practicing though! Thanks for video! 🎶🎵
I’ve used it in a band setting, seemed fine to me, but I pretty much just use it to wet up the sounds a little to cover my sloppy playing. Like adding a little extra sustain almost.
Just FYI: Monster cables still have a lifetime warranty, but they no longer allow you to get them replaced at music stores like Guitar Center or Sam Ash. I had that issue 2 weeks ago and was informed by both of these that Monster won’t allow them to replace any cables. Now you have to get in contact with Monster directly to get a replacement.
Weird. Two months ago I traded out a mogami cable at guitar center and they told me then that they still traded monster as well. I guess it must’ve been a very recent change
I’ve now bought 2 of the EX Reverb pedals. The first died after 4 months. The second lasted long enough for me to leave positive feedback. I’m obviously never going to buy one again.
That wah is interesting. I wonder how it compares to a Morley? You can get them pretty cheap used, and they are made in the USA. They also have a sensor, optical that works by just stepping on it. EQs are way under rated. Great for a boost or lead playing, or ridding that ice pick in the ear thing, and to tighten up the bass. A compressor is also great.
I like the studio view.
I second
Cereal Guy I third
Enrique Cabrales I fourth
I sixth
I seventh.
New setup works for me. But I am a consumer of your content, so whatever works for you, I will continue to watch.
I too am a consumer of his content, anything he makes, or posts, I will imedeatly shove into my mouth and eat.
Keep the green screen- take a photo of your studio view and use that as the green screen background. Just cause.

The swells you did on the reverb pedal were awesome! Sounded like a church organ! Nice!👍😎🎸🎶
Totally prefer this style over the green screen
I saw a jag on the wall and then you bust out this beautiful looking (and sounding) jag! Thank you for your time!!!
Jack Thompson he says in the video that it’s a Jazzmaster with P90 pickups.

Please do more budget-oriented videos like this, it's helping me a lot with building my first budget pedal board.
Bass specific pedals man. The studio view is awesome for demos Green screen for things like wiring works well.
that chorus is quite impressive! instant 80's new wave guitar sound!!!!
Definitely a much bigger fan of you filming at your desk. Makes it feel a lot more inviting and less cheap. Killing the stock sounding background music would do some serious wonders. I see plenty more subs coming your way with the new set up.

i LOVE the trelicopter ive owned one upgraded to a EQD hummingbird and went back to it

I love these budget pedals that are out at the moment , just ordered a MOSKY Golden Horse for £13.40 which is ridiculously cheap!
Loved the EQ petal, total surprise.
I highly recommend the ammoon mosky mp-51 spring reverb. Got one a few months ago, I use it all the time.
The pedals in my board currently are some of those cheap chinese pedals, some used ones, and some homemade pedals.
José Islanio how do you make a home made pedal
fancy potato making the board, soldering the components, then putting it into a box, preferably metal
I like the variety of the shots!
Agree a good EQ will shape all your guitars if you are working one amp, GE-7 from Boss is a one of the best, that Ammoon looks pretty good for the price, keep upi the great work !!
Oh, and the Studio, Show , and Content is RAD!.
Studio looks great. I like the EQ pedal, I definitely getting a couple for my pedalboard. Thanks Dan for the video review.

Super diggin that dark green jag bass up there on the wall.
Also super diggin that natural wood jazz master fuckin *drool*
Great demos Dan!
I love the studio view! 🖤
Oh yeah! I definitely prefer your realistic setting :-)
Love the looks of the WahTer. Wanna buy one for a long time just because of that.
Great video, Dan!
Your studio is awesome.
Blessings, friend!
Green screen, studio space, or THE SHED? All of the above. It would be super pro to intermix them!

Nemo Nothing I just traded a Dunlop wah for a Vox and couldn’t be happier. Love the way it sounds.
Awesome video. Awesome guitar. Only suggestion would be about the balance of sound. The mics were picking up the raw guitar sound In the room (coming straight from the strings) and sometimes it was hard to hear the pedals over the dry sound.
Do one of these for bass next time?
Seconded.
Bassist here. I approve this!
Yes please... PLEASE!!!!!!
yes please do!
Hey, man, do one for bass pedals. Like they said.
IT'S PRONOUNCED BASS!!
I think the studio background is much nicer. Seems more professional and personal at the same time
That chorus pedal sounded so good for the price!
The volume swells, reverbs, and chords sounded like you were in a cathedral! Subbed!!
no preference on the setup, man. Just wanna see you keep making videos!
Great channel. Studio looks great. Very useful info. Thanks so much. Really appreciate it.
I love the new look! It’s nice!
I think the studio setup is much superior. I would suggest that you use that view when talking in the building videos aswell!
Great video, Dan, as always. Just as idea for next video - how about your suggestions about one chain of affordable effect pedals that will work with guitar and bass both? Or, maybe, just show these pedals that you already have with any of your basses.
great vid Dan ! really interesting
I know this is off topic but I just re-leveled my Strat and crowned them with your tool, guess what ? it give me perfect super awesome results (better than a tri file for sure..) !! thanks for the help man
keep rockin' \m/
Thank you, I am thinking of getting that first reverb pedal...sounds cool...cool geetar by the way.
Since I got into the comments early, I wanted to say what a great channel this is. Great premise, unpretentious and doesn't make things hard for people.
make a volume 3!! i enjoyed this! maybe some distortion pedals.
TomTop has always given me great, cheap af gear, if you don't mind waiting a little, you often get a steal from them.
That’s been my experience as well
Studio view is considerably more appealing to look at than the green screen.
I’ve now bought 2 of the EX Reverb pedals. The first died after 4 months. The second lasted long enough for me to leave positive feedback. I’m obviously never going to buy one again.
The studio view is the way to go, no doubt
That wah is interesting. I wonder how it compares to a Morley? You can get them pretty cheap used, and they are made in the USA. They also have a sensor, optical that works by just stepping on it.
EQs are way under rated. Great for a boost or lead playing, or ridding that ice pick in the ear thing, and to tighten up the bass. A compressor is also great.
Love the studio background
Studio area looks good. Just gotta hang another custom guitar on that wall to your right
Can you make a video or two about a diy Thunderbird bass?
Love your Channel!
Oh, yeah, there it is. Thunderbird, definately. Good call, Halvorson.
