Excellent film and wedding video. Thank you for going into all your gear. Its always helpful for someone looking for reliable proven gear that works for receptions.
What's funny is you said you didn't like the portrait work with the couple. I absolutely loved it. That snow made this film so unique and beautiful! I also loved the inside shots.
I appreciate you actually showing a wedding that doesn't have all the best conditions to do a BTS. It's real, relatable and really something I personally enjoy watching than weddings where everything goes smoothly. This shows challenges that we sometimes encounter and how to problem solve and work through the situation. Outcomes may vary but at least effort was put into it rather than "it is what it is". Here are some of my critiques on the film. I won't list them all but here are the big ones that stood out to me. The color temperatures are all over the place. It was difficult to see beyond 2-3 scenes before the temperature change. The back and forth change was very distracting. I know different areas have different lights, but try to adjust your temperature in different rooms. Even some shots in the same room had different color temperature, the different cameras/angles in the ceremony. Your editor can try to match it better by adjusting the temperature in post. Another technique is to use a few consecutive scenes with the same/similar colors before bouncing back and forth. You've mentioned the overexposed top wide shot during the ceremony and how it would be difficult to check or adjust it due to its location and noise. I completely hear you and now can relate. My question first is how overexposed was it? did your editor even try to bring it down? Based on the other shots i've seen and the color temperature issue mentioned above, I'm not sure if the editor even tried to bring down the exposure. Let's say it's overexposed and can't be saved, why don't you just leave that angle/shot out of the highlight film. That is not a super important shot where something important or someone's getting overly emotional, yet that was a repeated shot in the film. Edit it OUt, don't put it in. It seem like you had a better angle highlighting that section where the groom was speaking so just leave that angle there, or omit the overexposed shot. During that time, there was another far gimbal shot that was also overexposed. Lower it's exposure in post or omit the shot. I felt like the different angles were purposely added in to give it more dynamic with multiple cameras and perspective, but in reality, I found it more distracting when it's not done right. One of my pet peeves are shots that are not leveled. It can be easily fixed in post. I do it all the time and straighten my shots in post. It is SO Easy to do. Your film has so many shots that's not level and are crooked. The floral shadows on the toasters are very distracting. Even you mentioned you thought it didn't look good in the beginning but later liked it after seeing the results. I'm sure at the moment when you're filming, it's prob not the "creative" choice you're going for and is something you're intentionally doing. I understand there might be tight spaces to set up your lights, but I'm sure there's another location you can place it or have the toasters stand somewhere else. I think the parents toasts were at a different location which doesn't have these shadows. Also, what's up with the color? If you are shining lights on them, you set the temperature . They shouldn't be orange. Since you have extra help and weren't alone, I would definitely have the other person carry and handle a light throughout the day for each area. These are some of my thoughts and opinions. I have more but don't want to make this an essay. This is my critique of your film, similar to how you review other people's films. Please don't take this as I'm trashing your film, it's just some things that (in my opinion) can make it better, and may others reading may find value. I actually appreciate a lot of what you guys are doing to help the community. I highly enjoy the youtube content, the podcast and learned quite a bit from it. Thanks for all the hard work and please continue bringing content like this to the channel. I highly enjoy watching BTS!
It all looks awesome! One thing that bugs me in a lot of wedding films is crooked horizons. Not intentionally crooked but the ones that are just a little off. This happens to me when filming and I always try to tweak it in post. Just a pet peeve of mine. Otherwise, amazing work.
Really enjoyed the moody and interesting vibe of this film, and obviously the weather! I was wondering if there's a way to offer packages that wouldn't leave you feeling compromised as a creative. Perhaps including two videgraohers by default and upselling something else?
It really isn’t about the package. It’s about the couple and the day. The more high-end, your wedding, the less it is about the filmmakers’s creativity, division, and the more it is about the event itself. You pretty much need to be comfortable with that as you raise your prices and work with more wedding, planners.
I swiped past this so many times as i thought it was the BTS which i have seen. Interesting to see the BTS then the video. I would of personally like to of seen the ped crossing and pavement clip run a little longer, i felt this was a very unique part of the day and could of been given more time in the video. As to the dancing, can't remember if you mentioned the purple cast, or this was the room or you intentionally put gels on the light. Must say was not a fan of this colour. But saying this, it was a trying day for you and considering, it turned out excellent. 👍
Hello! First of all congratulations you made a good wedding video. I saw on your behind de scenes video that it was challenging with the cold weather and the location being full of hotel guests. So I have a few questions about your style. I wanted to ask you why the first thing you put on screen is your logo? Is it a trend or does it have a purpose besides that? For me it leads my brain to think the video I am about to see is an ad for your company. Secondly, I find it hard to follow your chronological sense of editing. The constant ellipses are confusing and from a spectators perspective it doesn’t show how the day really happened. A last thing maybe is that being audio the leading flow of the narrative maybe it would be wiser to end with something that wraps is up. You are right on your critique that it would be beneficial to have a few more portrait shots. Including maybe some close ups? I seem to have forgotten about the bride and grooms faces at the end of the video. I don’t want to be harsh at all critiquing your work as you have shown very good things in your video and your approach on the day itself is very relaxed and you found a creative way of capturing it all and those are things you can’t say about any wedding videographer. Just some background. I’ve been shooting weddings for the last 8 years and am based in Lisbon. I do 30-40 weddings per year and edit them as well. I find it amazing to see different styles of wedding videos. American weddings are really different to other countries. 40-50% of the couples we have are from America. Greetings from Portugal
To answer your first question about the logo, this is the film the client received and in our option is a branding asset for our company. We never edit in a strictly chronological style. This allows us to focus on how the mood of the film moves rather that be a slave to the day. We (Jared and Jason) always say we are trying to give a couple a feeling, not show them how their day truly went. I terms of the audio, it kinda is what it is sometimes. Sometimes you get great sound bits. Sometime you don't.
this is Jared, I’ll just mention about the logo that I’ve never had a single couple mention it. We just shot our 1000th film this summer. since no one is complaining, I don’t mind free advertising. I think it’s what are couples expect as well seeing that all of our films start the same way
@@WeddingFilmSchool Well, good if it works for you then. Personally I don’t think it’s the right timing to show it. It puts your companies needs first and the couples second. But hey, the clients obviously like it. Maybe they like the “in the cinema” style entry of their own wedding video. I should try it as well. 👍

man, what tough lighting. You hit the mark on the vibe, very touching. The snow looked so dreamy.
Good stuff!
This was so beautiful

Amazing welldone dude!... Considering the conditions you made magic out of a tough day. My 5 cents

What are your thoughts on getting the new X-H2s to replace the X-T4? I currently shoot X-T4 but have been dreaming about the upgrade
We have been experimenting with the H2s for it but. It’s great. Should we make a video?
