  • We show you how to set up event conversion tracking on LinkedIn Ads using the event-specific method. This is good for tracking conversion actions like button clicks or other valuable actions on your site that DO NOT have a thank you page or confirmation page.

Why the tag firing status is showing "still running"? Does it cause any conversion issue? I am facing the same issue.

Hi Mihir, good spot! and good question. Sometimes, this "still running" issue happens when something is interfering with the tag and it may only be happening in your preview/debug mode. Common things like browser extensions (ad blockers etc.) can cause this.
First thing is to follow the set-up and after a day or two, see if LinkedIn is receiving a signal for your new conversion event that you've set up. If there is no data and you think there is an issue, try disabling your browser extensions. Another common cause is if you have Google Optimize running somewhere on your site. That can cause a conflict.
In this case, the event I set up in this video receives signals fine in LinkedIn and has experienced no issues even though, in the video you can see that the Tag says "still running".

@@VixenDigital LinkedIn is receiving the signal but not recording any conversions. I have checked the conversion pixel via LinkedIn Insight Tag Checker extension and noticed error status for conversions. Therefore, I attempted to set up the conversion via custom HTML, which is now working perfectly. I believe there may be some issue with the LinkedIn 2.0 template.

@@user-jg9wn4rn7i Great, so if LinkedIn is receiving the signal then your event is working. If you're not seeing conversions in your ad campaigns this means that you have not had a conversion from your ads yet. (Unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean :))

Hey, thank you very much for the tutorial, I have set it up exactly like this and the status of the conversions is "active" in the linkedin ads campaign manager. However, it is not recording any conversions at all for any of the conversions i set up. I can see in Google Analytics that the traffic from the linkedin ads is leading to conversions, but in the linkedin campaign manager for some reason they do not get tracked - do you know why that is the case?

Hi there, if you're definitely receiving signals for the conversion event you have setup in LinkedIn but you are not seeing the conversions assigned to your LinkedIn campaigns - then this would indicate an issue to do with attribution, or that there is an issue in the tracking somewhere.
Another common problem we have encountered recently is incorrect implementation of "consent mode" or cookie banners that are blocking the LinkedIn insight tag in certain scenarios which can cause issues with accurately tracking conversions in LinkedIn. Hopefully looking into these areas will help :)

what if someone click on the button accidently, or what if they fill out the form incorrectly - for example missing out the required field and clicking the button, then again clicking the button after they correct it? Wouldnt that mean that Linkedin would recognize it as multiple conversions?

Hey Tomáš, great question! You're right - submission errors can result in LinkedIn tracking a form submission even if the form wasn't sent successfully. If you think this is going to be an issue for you then you can tick the "Check Validation" box on the "Trigger Configuration" set up (see around 5:53 in the video). This will then only track forms that are successfully submitted :) Hope that helps!

@@VixenDigital Thanks for the video! Any reasons why not to use the form submission trigger type?

@@Or-ul3vs Hey Or, just for the purpose of this video it was to show people how to set up an event trigger for a button click. You're right, you could use the form submission trigger type if you wanted to, but this would fire on a form submission rather than a click event :)

Superb tutorial, thanks for taking the time to make something like this! 🤗 I see that you have two LinkedIn insight tags set up, onw for pageview tracking, and the 2.0 for event tracking. Is it possible to do it all via just the newer 2.0 one?
If you want to measure multiple events, say 3 different clicks/3 different campaigns - do you need 3 instances of the 2.0 tag and three specific triggers (with respective button ID's)? Or how would you go about this? Thanks!

Hi Alexander, thanks! and no problem :)
Yeah, good spot. Although not a huge issue, it is advised by LinkedIn that you update your old LinkedIn Tag to the new 2.0 version for just your standard "All pages" page views tracking. I've since switched this over in this demo account but it's not the end of the world if you haven't done it yet. We haven't seen any negative effects as of yet for people who are using both.
Yeah, the simplest way is to just set up a new trigger and tag for each of your conversion events. However, if you have a similar action that is performed across your site, you could set up your trigger to be inclusive of those. For example, let's say you have 3 contact forms across your site on different pages, you could set up one conversion event using the "form submission" trigger type and set it to "all forms". This way it will fire the conversion event tag whenever a form is submitted, rather than setting all 3 up separately. Plenty more scope within the trigger set up too to help you customise to your requirements.
      Hope that helps!
