Wake up, try to figure out if I'm awake or not, figure out if my dreams were real or not, try to forget any bad ones (I have night terrors), then hug and snuggle my girls... I need to trade coffee/energy drinks for herbal tea. I need to start making my bed again. And I need to focus more on resolving my anxiety and depression via meditation instead of overloading my mind with other trivial things (tv/video games) to try and block them out... Thank you so much for another helpful, calming video 🙏 Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu 🙏

As an online graphic design student, recently my body has told me to take up a very similar morning routine. I wake up at around 6:30, process my dreams (I have extremely other worldly dreams every night), make my bed, make coffee, water my plants, meditate whilst reading The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, and then work on art pieces or edit photos.
Thank you for your video, it is validating.
I'll work on adding a moment of community service also 🙂

I am so amored by your reply. Your photo shows you to be a young woman. Your generation , like that of my granddaughter, gives to me as an elder of 71yo, so much hope to the future of our planet. So many generations before mine and since have chosen to ignore or not even ide tiny with the emotions you identify in your comment. To "know ourselves:" is truly the greatest gift we can give to ourselves and the world. You are living that. That is exhausting and often comes with anxiety, and depression and mind racing. It's all okay. Please keep 🙏 on keeping on this universe needs you. 🙏 and ❤

The way of the majority will never change, I don’t think. Or even if it does it’ll change ever so slightly over a very long period of time.
Now whether one chooses to tune into that channel is up to each individual at the end of the day. To decide to be different is brave and takes a lot of effort, resilience and self-integrity.
Also, you’re not just swimming up the stream in terms of external societal pressure, but also the internal one. We are all full of mental baggage we got to deal with.
I truly hope you achieve what you’re aiming for, just remember to give yourself the gift of time and patience. You deserve it ☺️

Very very iimportant part: ''too often when people talk about morning routines, it comes from a place of productivity' and this is exactly (I believe) where we all get lost, in wanting to DO more and more and more and more. I see it as the manifestation of profit thinking and the capitalist system. This idea of slowing down, allows for so much wisdom and personal power and choice to open up. Thank you for this video I enjoyed it so much and take this to heart!

    1. Get up early (4am), rest, center, think about death and the possibility of doing today.
    2. Make your bed, as a training
    3. Chant, meditate (grounding process)
    4. Do an act of generosity: Monks collect food and give others the opportunity to give. You can make breakfast for your children or for your partner.
    5. Doing chores: Connects hands to earth --> mindfulness
    6. Day before: light dinner or fasting (monks eat breakfast & lunch) better sleep
Purpose: still the mind/get us out of our heads and access the inner well/wisdom
I watched this at 1,75x :) not very mindful of me, I know.

@@lesliecoutsouridis9559 I believe the reason was a reminder to appreciate the gift of this day. I also think it 'keeps it real' since this is always playing in the back of everyone's mind. To address it makes it less foreign and scary. That has been my experience as someone who believes in God. Just my very untrained take on it. Maybe someone else will illuminate further.

God loved us so much that he sent his one and only son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins so that one day we can see God in heaven and go to heaven! Things that stood out the most for me -
    1. Waking up and just laying on bed doing nothing just being still and present.
    2. Doing chores, mainly cleaning your room and surroundings, to get in touch with the earth and focusing on cleanliness and again being present
    3. Not having heavy dinner, cuz body is using energy to digest the heavy food meanwhile we're trying to sleep.

@@nickkeomahavong01 Dear Nick Keomahavong, thank you very much for sharing your lives with us and spreading awareness. I truly appreciate it. 😊💜 My current reflection or question is, is your intention and practice also on having an open or opening up, the heart? I am wondering this because i am good at training and focusing my mind, but think that it is also my job to learn to love from having an open heart and to have flow and synergy between mind and heart, the masculine and the femine and yang and yin. Doing this helps me to experience balance and full flow, to hear guidance in my life from within and be present all the time, as well as experience increased empathy and connection to all of the different living beings around me on top of experiencing calm and focus. Please, would you kindly reflect on this for me? What do you think about this and is opening up heart flow intelligence something that you also actively learn, teach or practice? We are starting to see more eastern influences in America, especially in mental health with the rise of ACT therapy, meditation, mindfulness and approaching conflict with compassion
Even corporations are starting to incorporate mindfulness, promoting morning meditation and setting aside time for introspection, this improves productivity and improves moral
I dont know if it will latch on in American culture as whole but its certainly on the rise

Video notes for a morning routine:
**wake up time: 4:00 am- 4:30 am***
    1. know that the purpose of morning routine is to get our mind still and grounded not to wake up early so we can jump in to work, news, or be super productive....use your morning to train your mind/gain wisdom and make your mind still...if you do that productivity automatically comes!
2.When you wake up, first try to be centered, keep your eyes closed, and try to breathe! try to take advantage of your still mind from the night. Try to be just present.
3.Reflect on death. today is not guaranteed or promised. You can die any second/any day. Today is a wonderful opportunity to do good..we are lucky to be alive!
    4. Make your bed..use it as a training and be mindful...trains you how to follow through and keeps the space clean.
    5. Chanting and meditation. your mind hasn't be distracted with outside world and is calm so use it to chant and meditate. chanting gets you into rhythm and slows your mind further. Meditation gives a new energy and inspiration and you are grounded...at first beginners may just feel sleepy! "stillness is the key to success." Makes you see the situations in real world more clearly.
    6. Do an act of generosity. Example: donate money, donate time, donate a service, etc.
    7. Do chores. Use them as a mindfulness exercise if you can.
****8. Know that morning technically starts the day before...for example don't have heavy dinner..if you do, instead of recharging/resting, your body spends energy to digest! Monks don't eat dinner just breakfast and lunch.

It is all too fitting that you say to start your morning the day before by limiting dinner, because the reason many fail to do this is because the day they had leading up to their dinner was so draining that they seek the comfort of food, and this includes me. Words can't express my gratitude for such detailed advice on how to break this seemingly endless cycle.

I am neurodivergent. Doing the same thing every day is a challenge. I've been struggling trying to find a morning routine I can stick to. You said two things that really spoke to me. "(Helping with)Emotional regulation"...which, I know you were talking about children, but patterns we learn as children, if not corrected stay with us as adults, and I, for sure, have struggled with that and have anxiety because of it. The other thing you said was, "it's an investment". Wow. I'm always feeling like I need instant results. A product of the current world I live in, for sure. I have struggled with chronic insomnia, major depressive disorder, anxiety and panic attacks for about 15 years. It wasn't so bad when I was in school since there was always the routine of going to school everyday and the school calendar was almost exactly the same every year. But once I got to university and classes were spaced out and skippable since attendance rarely counted, everything started getting worse. Of course life's traumas added to that but I've never been disciplined enough to force myself to have a routine like this. My life would look so different today had I been taught to establish a morning routine (control is very important to me because of a traumatic childhood). Never too late to learn!

From Canada, Namaste, thank you. I really like your morning routine education. I work three jobs here in the Western world, I’ve just suffered a car accident, broken my foot, and the job work stress is relentless regardless. Headaches every day. I give every day if my time, through intention, generosity. It’s my natural state. But our western practices cause illness, frustration. When I went to Nepal to climb for a month, I loved the Everest Valley Sherpa culture. The children were happy, the valley residents grateful and humble. I had the privilege, because there were no rooms left at lodges, to sleep alone in a monastery with candles and prior generations of monks in jars in glass cases. I was intensely grateful for this honour. 🙏

@@nickkeomahavong01 I'm like a happy child from your simple response. There is so much that I want to say, I will keep it as brief as possible. Im a recovering alcoholic in a treatment facility. I've spent many years in institutions and homeless, surrounded by violence and chaos with many near death experiences. With brief moment of clarity I've come to realize that I've been taken care of and that's why I still exist.
I once decided to follow hermetic disaplines, within a two week period during after a series of induced dreams I was I'm meditation laying in bed, i interrupted it with a thought of whatever has been protecting me and said out loud with extreme emotion and intent,
I know we've must of know each other for thousands of years but I don't remember you that's why I don't love you, and I'm sorry for that. I know you love me and if I could remember loving you, I would. But I don't and I'm sorry for that. I know I've been difficult and have made it hard to protect me, I'm sorry for that.
As I was say this, something invisible put itself on my body, then entered, it was a tingling vibration, not euphoric. Then above me a voice appeared and said, " it's about time you realized that we've been taking care of you this whole time". Surrounding this voice were many others chuckling confirming the statement with sarcastic Joy.
I was not amazed, but speechless, then the vibration slowly starting from head to toe.
I have many questions, my answers can only come from within. I practice Anuttarayogatantra, medicine Buddha. I have a strong sense that Amitaba may have some influence after a series of events. Im interested in the "swift path", I make offerings, I practice botichitta, I read " Liberation in the palm of your hand". I have no teacher or Sanga. I know one Buddhist who introduced me to this. I have the willingness to become a monk. I know nothing, but follow my heart.
Thank you for your kindness and giving me a place to share myself.
      Sincerely Christobal

I’ve been struggling with depression since I was 13. I lost my brother who was my best friend and the only one who I felt got me in this world. I had my daughter unexpectedly 2 years ago and almost lost her. It’s been a long and tiresome journey. Often times, I feel so alone like I have nobody other than my daughter. But, when I watch your videos, I don’t feel so alone. You have helped me more than any psychiatrist ever has. Thank you so much.

As I was put walking early this morning (because of lack of sleep the night before) listening to this young monk's wisdom of calm and reflection; never in my wildest, I would take the time to listen, to actually listen. My evening meals, gonna adjust that! The late night eats is probably why I am not sleeping the way I should, and the giving, the chores and quieting of the mind, and reflection on the day not being promised to us is very, very good advice! Thank you brother Nick!

"make your bed" modern translation: take care of your own environment. don't rely on machines (dishwasher, washing machine, kitchen machine, vacuumcleaner and whatnot) but see for yourself how it is, do some effort - if you're not able to take care of your own environment, how can you be responsible for the community environment? Spirituality starts at home

Last year I did so many mistakes in my life. I used to be a good student. I meditated every day. But last year I missed myself because of toxic relationships. I got bad decisions. I corrected my biggest mistake which means I move on from that toxic relationship two months ago but it was really hard to start over until now because I worried too much about my past behaviour and I missed so many studies. I hated to live in the moment. I couldn't deal with reality because my mind always blamed me. Nowadays I have an examination but I can't even study because of my worries. I wanted to change that lifestyle but I couldn't do it. But now after I saw this video I am so happy because I found that what I wanted to knew on that hard days of my life. When you said that "everything in the past is gone but this moment gives us a new opportunity" and every advice you gave healed my heart. Then from now on I don't worry about my past and also I don't fear about the future as well. I will face my future with courage and all the time I try my best to live in the moment. I will create the best version of myself and treat my parents very well and keep them happy all the time as I can. I know how to do it now because now I can love myself without complaining me. Then I'm sure with this change I can change anything. Everything defines how we look at it. We have to try our best to see the good in every situation without complaining. From now on I don't think what others think about me as well because today is not guaranteed or promised as you said. And I try my best to spend my day as you said. Thank you so much for helping me with this valuable advice. I wish you will have a long and healthy life. And I wish you can reach nirvana very soon🙏

i always wanted to be a monk but never fulfilled that want. Now I am 73 and realise the road i took was the only road for me to get here . When i do meditate on death i see all the souls leaving their bodies at that very second, and try to make sure if there are any confused souls to share my profound joy with them of being on that final flight and how exciting it is after all this time to be going back having hopefully done whatever it was we came here to do. I feel sometimes we think we are not worth anything our life has no meaning. but we could be here just for the one moment we interact with someone who unknowingly changes their direction.
