one thing I love about west coast players, Jason white said it on one of his vids- "NEVER sacrifice the melody..." they seem to always keep the melody even when their being sweet.
Dr. White and Dr. Bereal have revolutionized the art of organ, as well as transformed gospel music. Their faithfulness to the melody preserves the intent of the song's author to convey a message to the hearer, and even without words, potentially save a soul. Plus, as experienced church musicians, these gentlemen understand how a familiar melody can synchronize worshipers into collective focus so they can move along with the Spirit, the Preacher and the Moment wherein the music is being played. Beyond that, the brothers can just flat out PLAY - and to GOD be the glory!

Since I moved to Los Angeles I’ve been listening and observing and appreciating their gifts. Only briefly acquainted personally Over the years, but they should definitely be credited for much of what we call the gospel sound of today. Sorry to geek out. Not sorry. Lol

Had the opportunity to meet Pat( the band director),Gerald Haddon and the guys in the band. Their flavor is CRAZY to say the least. I'm still learning, but am grateful for the experience of meeting such great dudes. Enjoy your stay out there. Miss the West.

@Nobby I was paying respect to him and at the same time was amazed that he was able to slide such an already difficult jazz lick into his phrasing! I included the name of the song incase someone else who maybe didn't know it or didn't catch what he was saying might pick it up.
