Grow-A-Long Wild Carrot (Daucus carota dara)

Once germinated Wild Carrot needs a period of cool growing conditions for good seedling establishment.
Excessively wet foliage from watering overhead or a very wet Spring can cause carrot leaf blight. This will cause the foliage to collapse and the plant will die. For this reason I overwinter plants in a cold greenhouse to protect them from the worst of the winter wet.
Once planted, firm staking is required to protect against wind rock (minute 6)
The roots of wild carrot are small compared to the eventual size of the plant and strong winds can cause plants to sway. This back-and-forth swaying will eventually loosen the roots from the soil, the plant won’t be able to take up enough water and will quickly die.

They are gorgeous!! I'm in Victoria BC zone 9a and am wondering if i should try to sow now (Spring) in the greenhouseas well as in the fall.i just popped my seed packet into the fridge. I began selling cut flowers on our roadside stand last summer on a whim and absolutely loved it! I was pinching white Queen Ann's Lace from ditches and random fields (not privately owned of course). Thanks for this wonderful video! I love your flower supports!

what is grow a long? never heard of it

Basically we start in Autumn and I show you exactly how and when I sow my seeds with regular updates so you can grow alongside me, to planting, then harvesting and making arrangements. I use professional cut flower seeds not normally available to the home gardener which you can order just before each grow along. We also do a later winter sowing and spring sowing. There is also an Anemone and Ranunculus grow a long, and with the very tall florist corm that you can also order and a Dahlia Grow-A-Long.
My website is much easier to follow with a diary so you can catch up later if you are busy.
