Sweet pea arrangements big and small

Not all Sweet peas will grow into the perfect blooms but that does not mean you can't arrange with them! Here I have used a simple jam jar and used my less than perfect stems to make a lovely arrangement full of scent for my bedside table!

Garden Catch Up Late May

I’m sorry I haven’t posted for a few weeks. I have had my long awaited Endometriosis excision surgery but unfortunately things didn’t go to plan and I was rushed into hospital again with internal bleeding resulting in a large hematoma in my pelvis which has knocked me off my feet and turned my body black and blue with bruising. I’m being very careful and not doing very much, no lifting or bendi...

Deadheading Ranunculus and making the most of your flowers!
มุมมอง 2.1K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
It can be hard as a gardener to actually cut your flowers, preferring instead to visit them where they bloom in the garden. However a little bit of early deadheading will encourage the plants to bloom again and give you the chance to bring some flowers into for the house. With careful conditioning these flowers can still last a week or more in the vase. Here is how cut and arrange mine getting ...

Thank you so much. You are one the most informative gardener here in youtube. Well done Maam.
What are your thoughts on the differences in pH levels between them?
Wow amazing so we'll told
Thank you SO much. I needed to SEE how to do it, and you showed me exactly how to...
Growing for the first time, too late for a 2nd sowing and had no idea they have a scent! Thanks for the tips.
Never knew this! My cosmos plant been growing for over two months now and it has only gotten tallll.. no buds.. now I know what to do. I’m growing more as I’m not sure if the tall plant can be pinched still.
I needed to hear this, thank you! I never saw bud drop before (it's only my third year growing) so I was afraid it was some kind of virus. Whew!
My leaves are going yellow. Can you help? Is that too much water? Shall I just not water it for a bit now? I’ve been watering every day so I’ve watched your video so I think I should stop watering. I think I’ve overwatered.
Great video. I've been looking for detailed instructions on growing my native Carolina Larkspur and this was the best by far. Fascinating how much the foliage changes as the plant grows. Thanks again.
What potting mix and fertilizer did you use for the seedlings? mine are growing very slow!
Hi I have tried watering from underneath with water at a low level in the tray which is probably the reason why my seed mix didnt get fully moist. I tried water from above but I’m not sure about the frequency of watering as i keep getting fungus gnats. Also at what level do i put the seeds. Thx
I bought this glower at my local big box store. I wanted to try since ive never seen these flowers before. They are small like 3-4” tall, had one bloom and now the little flower have fallen. I cut the seed pods. I am hoping they grow larger and many blooms. 😅
So helpful - and beautiful blooms! Thank you! 💚
great
Thank you so much
First time dahlia grower here. Excellent explanation of pinching out. Thank you. Do you have a video of how to stake them please. I live in windy North Northumberland. Thank you again 😀
Yes I have, if you go to my website all the videos are together which makes it so much easier, I will add a link, it's all free no charge xxx zoewoodwardgardening.com/2023/03/31/dahlia-grow-a-long/
@@zoewoodwardgardening Thank you very much Zoe, excellent explanation and instruction. Off I go to plan where they are to go and sort out my canes. New to me garden first spring / summer. I’m going to be busy! 😀
What kind of soil did you use?
Just garden soil which we improve with homemade compost and sometime well rotted farmyard manure, but not very often. See soil science on my website for more information zoewoodwardgardening.com/
I didn't realize the cone shaped was the spent buds. I thought it was something wrong with them. Thank you for this straight forward and helpful video!
You'll spot them a mile off now xxx
Beautiful
Thank you so much
I have to replant my tubers. I did not pay attention. Thank you.
Glad to help
I chopped mine quite hard this year as they were so floppy last year. I didn't realise they would grow roots so easy from my choppings though so will definitely try this. Your sedum hedge is glorious ❤
It makes you feel like a genius grower lol xxxx
Thank you for this very informative video. You have no idea how many times I watch videos only to get to the end without learning anything at all. This really helped me with exactly what I needed to deadhead my dahlias!
Thank you so much for taking the time to be so kind. There is loads more information on my website if you need it xxx zoewoodwardgardening.com/
So first time grower up cosmos what do I do if I don't have enough sun on my porch? I want pots of cosmos on my porch I don't have a yard
Cosmos needs sun, but there are so many shade loving plants, I'm sure you will find something you love xx
How tall do they get?
It does depend entirely on the verity, here is a link to my seed shop, it's sold out at the moment but I do have all the heights for you. zoewoodwardgardening.com/product-category/january-seed-shop/
Beautiful,do you growforget me nots ,🦋
Yes I do, they are so lovely x
Hello and thanks a lot. Few people pretend it’s Even better to pinch them earlier, before the stem is growing : what do you think ? Best
You need them to have leaves to photosynthesise.....
Simple. Very understandable instruction. Outstanding.
Thank you so much for taking the time to be so kind x
very helpful , thank you , mine are much leggier than yours hopefully they'll be ok
It's gone chilly so hopefully they can bulk up a bit. we have a Grow-a-long if you want to join in next time. see my website for all the details zoewoodwardgardening.com/ th-cam.com/video/wf7mEd_9V_A/w-d-xo.html
Scientific indeed
Thank you x
I have had terrible germination this year, tried 3 times, never had a problem before. They are my favourite flower
Try starting them off indoors, the soil might have been baked in the sun and dried out the seeds x
Thanks for this, my rudbeckia were sown on 17th May and nothing happened so far. I'll give it another week
Try starting them off indoors, the soil might have been baked in the sun and dried out the seeds x
I pinched mine last week and they stopped growing. The ones that was not ready for pinching is growing though. What did I do wrong?😅
They are waking up the side shoots which takes longer as there are more of them so as long as you did not cut all the leaves off you will be fine x
Omg! You cafe au lait’s are divine!! And the watermelon’s!
Bless you xxx
I can’t get on with this peat free compost. It dries out so quickly. Sometimes having to water pots twice a day as the ‘compost’ does not retain the water and runs straight out the bottom. Even putting a saucer underneath the pot does nothing as the compost does not soak it up where peat compost would. How this is more environmentally friendly to use peat free compost, I do not know as I am having to use more water. Water, which is a scarce commodity.
On my website - see greenhouse updates I have some tips for keeping trays hydrated and not wasting water HTH xxx zoewoodwardgardening.com/
Simply amazing, thank you!
Thank you so much x
Do they need pinching a seedlings?
No pinching - you can find more on my website zoewoodwardgardening.com/
I have harvested a little bit early becos of the heavy rain however will it bloom Fully if i put in water? Miss
As long as it's not to immature they have a great vase life x
How long (1-2 years?) must avoid planting on the same area? And how many foots are contaminated near tubers?
Honestly I have had no problems planting again in the same place. it's the damaged tuber that let the gall in, don't over water and rot the tuber, that's the quickest way to get gall. Gall is in all our garden anyway, Dahlias are just sensitive to it as they are not native.
I overwatered my baby seedlings in 4" containers and now the roots are pretty much covering the entire bottom of the container and I need to transplant them to larger containers. What is the best way to do this without severely hurting the plants?
Just be as gently as possible they should come out.
My cosmos is very leggy - grown on window sill from april. Can i plant/repot them much deeper?
A little deeper will be fine, then they should bulk up anyway x
Mine got very leggy(grown on window sill in april) ... can i plant them much deeper?
A little deeper will be fine, then they should bulk up anyway x
My packet said sow April.. they look floppy and pathetic😅

This video is fantastic! Thank you!! I started to wake my tubers up WAY too early in bags in the house. They were tall and lanky before I cut them back. They have been in the house all this time and have been cut back a lot! Do I need to harden these off before planting in the ground?
Yes you need to protect them from sun and wind as much as cold to begin with. Much more on my website zoewoodwardgardening.com/2023/03/31/dahlia-grow-a-long/
Absolutely beautiful indeed
Thank you so much!
What a stunning video, I’m growing these for the first time, with the top half you pinch out can you replant it?
Yes if you would like to x
Hi there, i live in Indonesia and growing 5-6 eucalyptus without know what are their latin name. Can you help me to check on it please?
I can only name what I have actually seen and grown here xxx
what a great idea to make hoops. I am going to try as every year I stick in at least 40 canes around the dahlias and it's a pain to remove with all the string! I will find you You Tube on making canes now Thank you Angie in Surrey
Awww brilliant !
Thanks for this! I have a couple of these beasts that i had no idea how to tackle
Good luck! Mind your fingers!
I adore asters, but have had terrible germination this year, so gutted. Trying again today, 2nd May, is it too late
Might not be, i sowed them in june Last year and still had blooms in september
I don't even start mine until Mid April so that will be fine.
Growing nicotiana this year. Thank you for the video! Will help a lot.
They take ages to germinate and grow, then all of a sudden they double in size!
💮Great video thanks for showing the two different pot sizes. Can't wait to get mine potted up!
They are such a joyful plant x
