- Bonanza - Episode 12 - The Hanging Posse - Little Joe and Adam join a posse bent on catching the murderers of Vannie Johnson. The longer they take to catch them, the more whipped into a lynching party they become, much to the liking of the grieving widower.

Storyline:
Three men, Blackie, Kirk, and Schuster, ride up to a cabin. Blackie asks for supplies. The woman is hesitant, but says she'll get some. While Kirk and Schuster water the horses, Blackie attacks and kills the woman. He runs. Schuster and Kirk had nothing to do with it, but don't want to be caught either, so they all run.
When Flint Johnson and his son, Billy, bring Mrs. Johnson's body to town, Flint says a prospector saw three men riding away. He wants to go after the men. The sheriff's away and the deputy, Jeb, asks Adam and Joe to join them on the posse. They're reluctant, but Jeb begs and Adam agrees. "Paiute" Scroggs will be their tracker. Adam isn't convinced the three men had anything to do with the killing and is going along to make sure Flint doesn't do something he'll regret.

Little Joe and Adam are the two main Cartwright's in this episode. Ben and Hoss are seen only for a moment at the beginning of the episode. Adam and Joe get very uncomfortable in this posse, and for good reason.
This episode is very good as the tension builds up. One by one, the "bad" guys are killed, much to the horror of Little Joe and Adam. Then only one remains alive...and he has a shocking confession to make.

Tis worth remembering that none of the men and women credited in the series walk the world anymore. Lorne Green, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker, heck even Lil Joe, and all the guest starts, have all moved to that big range up in the sky. All those wonderful people who made this classic series, script writers, story writers, cinematographers, directors etc, probably all gone. This series played over 50 years ago. And a silent thanks to all those wonderful people for leaving us such timeless examples of how to lead a good life. Stand by principle even if it turns you against your brother or friend, stand up for the weak and oppressed, keep your word. I can't imagine people who grew up watching Bonanza, ever going wrong in life. Well apart from their girls meeting premature ends :-).
And a special word of thanks to El Gringo for uploading these timeless classics, episode by episode, season by season. I'm watching them one by one for the first time and loving it. I found my Bonanza right here.
It's solid entertainment alright but nothing else. What you are looking for is only found in one book, which is the foundation of their believes, maybe and read it yourself too.

Seems like the Cartwrights are more concerned about the men who murdered that woman than they are about the woman that was murdered.
@@williegordon7899 One man murdered that woman and the Cartwrights wanted to make sure that the right men or man was caught and faced a trial. You obviously didn't watch the show very well. ONE man killed her. The other two were completely innocent. They weren't even there when the other killed her. Of course the Cartwrights were concerned about her. Arthur Hunnicutt's character just wanted a lynch mob instead of a posse. Adam knew that which is why he and Little Joe joined the posse.
Adam is so staunch..💖💖.. love this episode. Ben telling Little Joe to get a haircut, and he still didn't lol...

The actor who plays Piute here is Arthur Hunnicutt. He also played Bull in El Dorado in 1964, with John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, and James Caan. He appeared in various other roles in (mostly) Western movies and TV shows in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. A good actor; he received an Oscar nomination in 1952 for his performance in a supporting role in the movie The Big Sky, but he did not win the award.
Arthur Hunnicutt (1910 -- 1979), originally from Arkansas. He had a part as a Union Soldier in "The Red Badge of Courage" (1951), a film based on Stephen Crane's novel.

Episode reminds me a lot of Chato's Land--a horrific film to view.
The father was a fool for murdering those two other guys. He didn't think that maybe if he took the kid alive that maybe they would of gotten the answers from him to who killed his wife? Not to mention those two were innocent and neither of their deaths were necessary. But we know for sure that the real murderer swang the next day or so.
The real murderer confessed that the other two were innocent. Therefore, the father is going to have to face trial for murdering 2 innocent men.
I hope you never have a wife. All three of those men are guilty, but if you want to go ahead and give them a tea party you go right ahead.

One was surrendering and the other one he shot in the back. Yes, the one who did actually murder his wife should hang but legally. If we take the law into our own hands then society falls. No one is giving the murder a "tea party". He will be sentenced and he will hang. Again, you missed the point of the episode. Vengeance is the Lord's, not man's. Mr. Johnson's lust for revenge destroyed him and made him no better than the killer. At the end of the episode Mr. Johnson ended up losing a great friendship with the Cartwrights, lost the respect of his son, and his soul is now stained. You want to end up like that?
Plus, the first guy he killed could have told him where the other two were going. Granted, they did figure it out, but it still would have helped.
I really 20 a lot with this film because in my childhood in the 60s and 70s and watching it very difficult to miss a chapter of the film was really the success that until today it felt
This film was really spectacular, good time, a lot of fun, I watched it with my family and today my parents are gone, but I believe that I sell the base more, there are some elements that I compare with myself

@@thegreyavenger2 Wrong. The theme in the end credits is slowed down so it's not exactly the same as the original which allows them to still legally leave it in. They should've just done the same thing for the opening theme, but there must've been a reason they couldn't.
The deputy was supposed to have led the posse yet he gives up and goes home.
The guy in the black cowboy in the posse was called Mi or in National Velvet. He had a limp in that show or movie.

I'm with the father you come into a man's house, you cut down a man's woman who had a heart of gold. That's a man provide, protect, and preside. Adam was dead wrong in this one.
Yes, I do agree that the man did deserve to hang. Like Adam said though, legally by the law. Mr. Johnson had every right to feel the way he did. However, he did cross quite a few lines. The only man who deserved to hang was the one who killed his wife. The two he killed had nothing to do with the murder of his wife. Hell, they barely even knew what happened. While they may not had been saints they weren't killers. Mr. Johnson should face justice for killing them. Both were unarmed men who had nothing to do with his wife being killed. You cannot take the law into your own hands. I truly think you missed the message of the episode. Vengeance will only destroy a person. It destroyed Mr. Johnon from the inside out. Like Adam said: two men dead; a friendship broken; and a father separated from his son. Like Adam told those two guys, you do best to remember that.

Flynn Johnson killed two unarmed innocent men. His lust for vengeance was his down fall. Joe was a kid in this episode. He got swept up in the posse but I think if his father had been there, he might not have allowed him to go along.
