My mom loves this show because she used to watch it with my grandpa and I love it because I used to watch it with her. Fun story: A few years ago I made a real size Pondersa map just like the one Ben has on his wall. I printed it on a real canvas in a specialized printer shop. Now it's on a wall at my mother's house.

I don't think they worked him like a dog! He scolded them like a mother hen! They used to let him get away with murder, and when he wasn't happy, he was quite willing to withdraw his labour or at least threaten to. He loved them and they loved him. He was like a friend who just happened to work for them.
Henry Comstock (1820 -- 1870) sold his mining claim interest prematurely before it yielded the silver bonanza that made the Comstock Lode famous. He died from suicide in 1870.
When Joe brought Sara a nice gift; Winnemucca should have told him then that she was engaged. Joe didn’t know. But then Joe shouldn’t have lured her away from her camp like that either without her father knowing where she was. He also put himself and a lot of people in danger with the Paiute. Joe could be careless at times and as Ben said (foolish) but we love him.
Ben talked like he might punish him and I suppose he did, but the episode had run out of time to affirm it lol. Then there was the time Joe ran off to town alone with Lotta Crabtree and had them looking all over for him. Wonder if all he got was that hard whack on his bottom. You Scamp!
@@shirleymiller4219 That was the very first episode, although televised only a couple of months before this one. (1959). Joe was very young, although not a child - maybe 20, 21? So that whack was probably symbolic for what Ben wanted to do, but Joe was too old for. Also, when he threatened "to skin him alive"! Wishful thinking, just trying to put the fear of God into him. But, God, wasn't Joe handsome!!??? Enough to make any red-blooded female go weak at the knees:)). And he looked so funny when his dad was telling him off, like a little kid caught with his fingers in the cookie jar. But you've got to adore him, he's so cute. He's so mischievous, but there's not a mean bone in his body. The fact that he forgave Lotta so quickly after she deceived him is proof of that And when he leapt (literally) to the defence of the woman being slapped (Julia Bulette) ;D
I live in Texas but I have a 96 year old brother and his wife is 97 and I’ve flown up to Mayfield,Utah to visit them 3 or 4 times. It’s about 136 miles away from Salt Lake City.
I love Bonanza but this episode is as unrealistic as it gets. That shot that Adam took with the Sharps rifle would have blew the guys leg half off when he shot the can-tine. God bless David Dortort for the quality work on this series
It is very easy to pick apart Bonanza and any TV show from that era. There is almost nothing realistic about their clothing, mannerisms, speech, etc. I try to watch for the story and entertainment.
After the hat is thrown and it cuts to landing on the antlers, the next scene shows an extra in the back of the shot picking up the hat and placing it on the antlers. Love this show.
I remember my dad and his older family moving from Texas to California. They were stopped at the border and all of their mattresses and bedding was cut open or ripped up to see if they were bringing any bed bugs 🐞 or Cotton Boll Weevils into California. My brother worked in California as the Head Superintendent for the Highways 🛣️ of California and then he and his wife moved to Utah where they still live. He’s 96 and still flies his own airplane. His wife is 97 and up until a few years ago he and his wife could still beat their daughter in four wheeler races. I sent him a large plaque with an Eagle 🦅 on it that says “One Tough Old Bird 🦅 Lives Here”. He and his wife and his son and two daughters built the large two stored log 🪵 cabin where they live.
Little Joe was only 17 when Bonanza started, and this was a year or so before that, so he was acting his age. Most 16 and 17-year-olds go on like this. He was mischievous, but never mean. It's impossible not to love him.
The Comstock Lode is a lode of silver ore located under the eastern slope of Mount Davidson, a peak in the Virginia Range in Virginia City, Nevada, which was the first major discovery of silver ore in the United States and named after American miner Henry Comstock.
There are times on these Bonanza episodes when all you can say is "Oh brother......get real". Like at the beginning when they took turns shooting the old buffalo gun. I know I wasn't the only seasoned gun owner rolling his eyes. Adam estimated they were half a mile from those 4 guys way out there up on the mountain. At that distance you could just barely make out if there were even any people out there. Blow the hat off their head? With iron sights? Completely ridiculous. Even with a well sighted in scope you'd be lucky to make that shot at half a mile. Then Adam makes a quick shot and hits the microscopic canteen nearly dead center. That buffalo rifle cartridge would drive that bullet right through both sides of the canteen and kill the hell out of that horse. And going in the hole would be the size of a half to a silver dollar. That tiny hole the water spurted from looked like it was made by a .22 slug. Whoever their consultant was for guns and many other things should have been fired for major incompetence.
Rattlesnake. Taste 🐍🐍🐍Tastes just like chicken 🐓 🐓🐓at least that’s what I’ve heard. I’ve never gotten a chance to sample it. Every year in San Angelo Texas they had a rattlesnake search and my friend used to go. They would “milk” the snakes 🐍 for the venom and then butcher them for the meat 🍖.
