@@hikingdancer You seem to love the outdoors, you love to challenge your body through competitive dancing and taking on the challenge of thru-hikes, how has networking been going for an outdoor company or doing something where you can work with people and getting them outdoors. I know you have your reasons for wanting to stay in Florida, but are those reasons also keeping you in a downward spiral? Please forgive me if I am getting too personal. I am a 58 year old guy married 32 years that has some regrets but many celebrations in his life. Even at my age, I still am excited for what the Lord has in store for me for however many years I have left. As I write this, I am recovery from back surgery where rods and screws were connected in my L5-S1 so everything fuses together. Still plan on hiking the AT in 2025 and you are one of the reasons for taking on this adventure. You also still had the best shot on the AT the year you hiked of the frozen trees when you were around Rocky Top. Please listen to a song from Matt Maher. It is called Turn Around. I pray you find what you are crashing or what you are chasing catches you where you are. You were on my heart so I thought I would write. Blessings, Wes

How I wish I was hiking in the Sierra Nevada Mts.
Last time I went in 2019 the snow was quite extensive and hard going. I heard people were skipping ahead. BISHOP was nice with a hostel which was loud but it's a nice stop if the bus is running from south lake.

I will be hiking the PCT this year also starting in late March. Living and hiking in AR a big part of my life before moving to Socal and hiking the deserts and Sierra's for years, I always thought the deserts would be boring and a very unpleasant hike. I'm happy to say I now prefer Socal desert hiking over the wooded hills of AR and hope that you will give the deserts of Socal a chance to mystify and challenge you as they do me. Happy trails and always look for snakes before you step, reach or sit in the Socal desert. Happy and safe hiking.
Congrats on getting the start date you wanted! I started mid-May a few years ago and wow wow wee wow...desert heat is no joke. I'd recommend a small star chart for those desert nights! Cheers!

I just knew something was in the works. Great day for the announcement and first Sunday of the New Year. Sunday is the day of new beginnings. It's nice when a plan comes together! I will have the popcorn out and ticket in hand!🥾
Good luck on your PCT 2024 this year, I hope you vlog often and take us with you.
Scheduling with a friend might be the hardest thing, but you will always find people on the trail with different experience and hiking pace.
We are having so far a very dry year in CA, so the first 200 miles might be the toughest part. Not only because of long water carry through the desert, but also you will hit the San Jacinto mtns(10,000fts) around mile 150. Foolish hikers trying to go fast and light have died, so I'm sure you will be sensible enough to carry all your snow gear and accept the possibility of less mileage or even zero days in that section. Good luck.
Congrats on your decision to hike the PCT and getting the date you wanted. I do plan to follow you on this trail. I've seen parts of the trail but have never followed anyone from start to finish, so I'm excited. Thanks for taking me along.

Good for you. I think it’s a really good idea to have someone to hike with. I’ve followed a number of people on the PCT. Some were hiking alone and you could tell that it was wearing them down. People mentioned that on some days they didn’t see another hiker.

When I was waiting to get my place in line for permits I was prepared to have a poor spot but when i saw my time slot and how early it was I realized I would be able to get any date I wanted. It really confirmed for me this was it. I was prepared to get local permits if needed but I completely understand the feeling of getting your date, congrats.

Hi, Road Runner, this Is Tortoise 🐢 from AT 2022, I may have met you on the AT, but not sure. I know i hiked some with another Road Runner (she was older) on trail. My start date for 2024 is march 28th. Perhaps I'll meet you out there on the PCT. I've got a new GoPro and hope to do some videos as well... we will have to see.

Be sure to take an umbrella for the first 700 miles in the desert. Very little shade unless you make your own.I think Gossamer Gear or Zpacks has the one that vents air for the extra breezy days. Looking forward to following your progress..Welcome to the west!

Its been a low snow year in CA so far, indeed Tahoe only just got its first significant snow. Sierra snowpack is something like 25% of normal. All of which is to say you probably picked a good year to do PCT. Nothing like what your hiking buddy Groceries experienced. Happy trails Roadrunner.BTW good idea not going solo. PCT not as crowded as AT, not as many hostel, town stops, places to congregate and shelters, so lots of camping.
