And your life J J Bean… will never be the same. I’ve done the PCT six times and the CDT twice. Leave a part of your heart there as I have, only to find it again on trail.❤❤
The animations really take this to the next level. What a superb video! "I could be a free, grubby wanderer without it impacting this facade I had built for society." That is a damn powerful sentence.
i think you encapsulated a feeling I've had since graduating college...im tired of the facade i need to put up in society. there's freedom out there, freedom from which drags my soul down. i need to start backpacking. thank you jj bean
I just wanted you to know that I’ve always dreamed of doing one of the major thru hikes. I’m on the PCT right now brining trail magic to some SOBO PCTers, as I test my aging body against the heat and climbs of the SoCal desert. I am registered for starting the full PCT next year despite being from far north, and your video was the first to inspire me to say “It’s not too late to try”. Thank You for creating this.
This was an amazing documentary of the PCT, and it made me shed tears. I’ve been following journeys of people hiking the PCT ever since I’ve wanted to hike it in 2018. I loved your documentary, I think it’s time for me to hike it as well.
OMG - I’m watching this for the second time in less than 12 hours and can I just say - This is one of my favorite PCT videos of all time (I’ve been watching PCT videos for about 7 years. I have watched multiple hikers from Dixie to Feathers and even IBTAT, and none have grabbed my attention and focus on every word. Hannah you’re a gifted story teller. I’ve been planning a PCT Hike for many years and medical issues has delayed a number of starts. I’m hopeful 2025 I will be out there. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and journey
One word “WOW” - What an amazing adventure & achievement. One of the Best videos of the PCT that I’ve ever watched. I know I will watch multiple times as I prepare for my 2025 PCT Hike. Your editing and narrative is spot on. What a wonderful soul you’re. I hope for the very best for you in the future and look 👀 forward to following your journey. May peace be with you.
I hesitated to watch this because I knew it would make me emotional- but man what a gift it is to have memories so beautiful! Such a perfect film, JJ Bean! -Moo :)
What a great film. Captures the true trail. Not the miles or the views, but the people, and the way the trail changes you that you never dreamed of. Thirty-four years later I am still Lao Tzu, 1990. You are JJ Bean for life.
You seem like such a genuine person and this was a beautiful window into what the PCT gives and takes. Wow, appreciated. ❤ from Finland (our national parks are great btw)
JJ Bean omg I love this so much!! 🤩 these pct films hit different when you know the person who made it and recognize so many people in it. It’s crazy to see how intertwined all of our stories are now. Loved watching it, you are a beautiful storyteller. Thank you for making this! 💜
I wish I had found hiking sooner😢. I was busy riding a road bicycle on the road next to cars…..3 mos. ago I just realized it was a stupid dangerous sport. lol now I’m in love with hiking, but I’m 65 years old….. good for you for not imploding over your break up ..be in love with yourself🎉🎉🎉
Dear Hannah. I celebrate your strength. What you have accomplished on the trail is just one of many things that makes me proud to be your uncle. Love Chuck
I’m a fellow class of 2022 member who hiked a bit with the sea creatures in California. Even though I was able to get to Canada before the closing, I was so set on getting every mile that I missed out on many of the beautiful memories that you captured in this amazing video. Truly it is about the journey and the people you meet. Send my regards to seaweed and sea biscuit if you still talk to them. -smokestack, class of 2022
Beautifully put together. Best PCT experience film I've had the pleasure of enjoying so far. Fantastic title and excellent storytelling. Love the doodles.
It somehow took me nearly a year to find this, but WELL DONE! Attempted in 2022, but it felt more like a section hike kind of year when I reached Acton. Went back last year and started over, flip flopping all around due to snow and hiking 1500ish miles. Not hiking again this year is a struggle. Thanks for helping me relive so many good memories. And man, those trail cries hit hard some days, but so worth it.
JJ BEAN!! This is so so beautiful. You are strong, resilient, and a badass. What an honor it was to share even a small portion of the journey with you! Keep crushing it
This made me emotional! Attempted a Flip-Flop in ‘22. Oh how I remember the fires and coming to that same conclusion towards loving the journey not the destination and the people we made memories with along the way!
To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other, and to feel. That is the purpose of life. What a great film, showing us the quintessence of life
Wow! What a great story. I started providing Trail Magic for PCTers like you this year. Normally, I'm at Barrel Springs. Why do I do trail magic? Well, I personally have not completed the trail. Only parts as I do my weekend hikes in SoCal. That said, for the past three years i have have several friends on the trail. In 2020, my friends Gregory (Gnome), Brittany (Turtle), and their daughter Maddie (Goose, her nick name) I can't remember her trail name though; completed the PCT. Then in 2022, friends Courtney (Potluck) and Jonah (Pickle) completed the trail. And, this year, my friend Beth (I don't know if she has a trail name) and an old high school classmate , who I hadn't seen in 40 years, and his son are on the PCT. So, lots of incentive for me to get out and do some magic. :) And, no matter how you slice it, you are a 1%er. Congratulations and good luck on future adventures. Thanks for sharing your journey! :)
Hey JJ Bean. It's Rock N Roll. Thanks for sharing. Getting prepped for PCT. Finished AT in Nov. 23. PCT in '25. Peace out and God Bless your journey. RR
Great video, best I’ve seen on the PCT. Your production quality is great and I really felt your story. Nice job. p.s. I also met mama bear under I10, what a wonderful lady.
I have watched quite a few such docs about the PCT, some brilliant, some... not so much. What stands out about this one, for me, is the excellent intro and narration. This one has the human side of the story down, it tells us the why not just the what, and it really works. We can identify with the protagonist immediately and that is what makes this film worth watching (among other things).
A great story of resilience and friendships. Well done for doing this after living thru Covid in the U.K. signed a Brit who was in Jordan and is now in South Korea. Still hoping to hike the PCT, once the teenagers in my family have done college!
Aawww, Sweet Girl. Very Brave! Beautiful storytelling and cinematography. Hope you had comfy shoes... Oops! The blister on your big toe at 3:21 answered that. Sorry you were hurt in love but happy you took action to help yourself heal. Not sure where you said it, but I'm stealing a quote that speaks to me. Having lived alone most of my life, and now 68, "I didn't want to do X alone but I'm glad being alone didn't stop me." Thank you for telling your story. Thoroughly enjoyed the tale. Happy trails............................
I once nick named someone jelly bean! It’s a name for the best people from the best times! I really hope to live the van life for 9 months in California, you’ve made life beautiful and hopeful for me ~ this video means everything to me 🩷 live on, and live young!
Thanks for this beautiful video, so nicely shot, edited, and narrated. I'm in the early stages of thinking about a PCT thru-hike and this is the first account I've seen from a queer perspective, which is refreshing and encouraging. Very grateful to have found this video.
Hello from Virginia, just wanted to give a thumbs up for your video and thank you for sharing it! I did 800miles of the AT in 2014 and hope to do a full thru of AT in 2025. What I watch in videos, the PCT definitely sets its own rules on 'finishing' due to fires. My thought is, once you have hiked so far would it ever be truly 'finished'? Because I think it lives on inside of you and becomes part of you, no matter where exactly you stop. Great job! Hope you are doing well!
Came here from tiktok. What a wonderful watch. Thank you 💚
