@@yusheitslv100 There is no copyright on Dante's Divine Comedy, so no. If it directly mentions or steals from Devil May Cry then yes, there is of course copyright on Devil May Cry. Divine comedy is public domain, and has been translated in a miriad of languages, so names differ.

I could listen to MBT talking about competitive yugioh tournaments and deck building all day
I did too until this series made it to an era of competitive Yugioh that I'm actually familiar with and I realized that he's talking out of his ass 80% of the time and he doesn't actually understand most of these formats that well at all

This episode was a fun example of the sheer increase in power these decks got from that second wave of support.
Ironically the older trap heavy BA builds would probably have a better matchup against dolls since the traps can actually disrupt the plays that your own extra deck monsters enable for them, while being able to spam rank 3 monsters doesn't do that much given that there wasn't a single good rank 3 monster in the game at this point in time.

That might have been one of the most entertaining episodes of History of Yugioh I've seen in a long time. Like holy cow, every game had a ton of back and forth literally every single turn.
This episode was great but I can't wait for Secrets of Eternity, which was released in January 2015. This set introduced the Infernoids, a series of monsters that can Special Summon themselves to the field by banishing other Infernoids from either the hand or graveyard. Notable cards in set include Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, Qliphort Monolith, Uni-Zombie, Nephe Shaddoll Fusion, and a card that would bolster Satellarknight to combat the Burning Abyss Shaddoll meta, Stellarknight Constellar Diamond. In this series, both Nyhmnim and myself will be opening 24 booster packs or 1 box of a core Yu-Gi-Oh! booster set. We will build a deck and play a best 2 out of 3, and the winner will receive a small prize to upgrade their deck. HOWEVER! Each episode, we will open another box of the next set that was released moving in chronological order, constantly upgrading our decks before dueling each other at the end of each episode. This is The History of Yu-Gi-Oh!

It was really interesting to see that both decks were playing really strong floodgate cards like Winda and Vanity, but every time the other player found an out to them, like Foolish Burial into Alich, or the El Shaddoll Fusion in response to Vanity's Emptiness. It shows a lot of flexibility of these decks to fight against cards that would completely shut them down, something I feel is rarer nowadays, where a lot of duels ends on turn 1...
yeah they dont like adding in archetype removal that comfortably fits into archetypes anymore. Swordsoul blackout has been like the only playable archetypal removal outside hard control decks.

I love this format, Denko Dolls was one of the first tier 1 decks that I could own, the resource management aspect is complex and interesting due to all decks having floating monsters of some kind, and you still gotta build your boards around OTKs due to bls+el shaddoll fusion combos allowing high damage output.
I play Denko Sekka as sideboard in my shaddolls deck to this day just because I like the synergy (and really don't like dealing with floodgates lol).
Shaddoll at release was definitely a strange archetype, but at full power, is extremely powerful.
Qlifort at release was powerful in its own right, and when Towers came out, it *was* the deck that changed monster effects.
Burning Abyss at release was really good, although unable to splash into other decks capable of rank 3 plays, but held its own.

What's crazy is 2 of these decks remained very very good rogue options for many years and pop up here and there even now
Towers wasn't good at release, it was seen as a "win more" card. It got better when vanity's was hit and wavering eyes was released
@@HareHaruhi This isn't true either. The card was good only in the EU, because cards like Diamond Crab King was a promo and didn't exist. The deck never really did anything in the states and Towers Turbo was really only a flash in the pan for specifically the European WCQ, the card was just consistently quite poor throughout its life span.
Tellarknights at release was the best deck out of them and got multiple successes because of its ease of use. While other decks were trying to figure out their optimal strategies, its strategy was already optimized way before. When Triverr came out, the deck got a powerful boss monster and a new way to recycle used continuous spell/trap cards, but it alone wasn't enough for Tellarknights to compete because their overall ceiling is too low compare to the other three decks of the format.
Over the years, Tellarknights kept falling down on the tier list, from tier 1 to tier 2, until it finally became a rogue deck, with its last herald being its victory in the 2015 Yu-Gi-Oh World Championship Series, in which it won against the infamous tier 0 deck Nekroz in the final.
Shaddolls, my favorite deck of all time. Utilizing 3 of the most influential Fusion Spells in the game. (Shaddoll Fusion for fixing the card advantage problem of Fusion Summoning, El Shaddoll Fusion for being an archetypal Quick-Play Fusion Spell, and Super Polymerization.)
Still decent today too. Mix it with dogmatika, invoked, or even branded. Not super expensive to build the Shaddoll engine I think either

I just remember that at the time every deck floated in like 3 guys but the format was not horrible. Looking at it now, wow it looks fun compared to 2022 format.
I hereby nominate the "Book the Virgil" moment in this clip as one of the Top 3 mega-punishes in The History of Yu-Gi-Oh series. 😉

Shaddoll is such a cool nonlinear deck. Lots of different lines.
This episode was pain. The only thing that helped me get through it was remembering the look on Alex's face on last sealed showdown when Robert dropped his second Scrap Dragon and told Cimo his scrap pulls were abysmal

This history of yugioh since Duelist alliance has been top tier for content. This trumps any other point in this series to date. Great game play and deep dives into deck building
Some people say DRulers jumpstarted modern yugioh, but what we saw in this series was mostly ending on Dracossack or Big Eye. These DUEA games are a lot closer to what modern yugioh feels like.
Duealli was one of the best periods if not the best one, and then the darkness came upon the earth... Masterpeace and zoodiacs were absolute hell.
Jeff Jones denko dolls is my favorite deck of all time so I’m pretty excited for this episode at the start.

Duelist Alliance (and it's extended lifespan through New Challengers and Secrets of Eternity) format was my return to Yugioh competitively. Glad they're spending a lot of time on each individual sector of this triangle format. I found it a lot of fun, and also felt rogue always could mix and match various points of hate for each triangle - making the "tier 2" not completely blown away by the "tier 1"
Maybe it's rose tinted lenses, but I really liked this format
All these deck lived for a very long time so you will get to see plentely of them. I personally can't wait for the final and in my opinion best version of BA, PK Fire.

What you're thinking of as being used in orcust was probably pk, as rusty bardiche worked great in the deck a small main deck engine would be included too

I'm shoving myself back into playing YuGiOh VERY slowly with a Shadoll deck. It's really fun! Squamata especially is so fun and SUCH a roundly useful card between its stats and its effect.
And with the Dogmatikas being both fun to use, and comboing well with Shaddolls, AND not as expensive, gives you a fun secondary engine!
I would love to see this format again. So much fun and it’s the right balance of fun/interactive and fast/meta that reminds you of the current game.
It’s just crazy hilarious to see a history lesson on what feels like it wasn’t that long ago
These games are exactly how those matches went at the time, the decision trees, the anti shaddoll fusion measures, the out of nowhere otk pressure, etc. Good times.
Surprised they haven’t done Star Seraph Shaddolls yet. Unless Scepter and Chair haven’t come out yet. One of the most powerful versions of shaddoll I’ve ever seen. Then again the “stick chair” combo might be too hard for them :P
They haven't been released yet. World Superstars came out in 2015 and we are still in 2014
Still not my favorite era for shaddolls, but there's only so much you can do without a certain normal summon. Getting there tho!

I really miss this format and the ones leading up to it. Reliving these here while I play some of the old games (Over the nexus, GX Duel academy, Tag Force etc...) is making me fall back in love with the game.
edit* MBT's lectures at the start of each video are amazing. He does beautifully covering a topic that's often overlooked. The small details on when cards entered and left deck building philosophy make the videos. As someone who lived through all these changes you should know all of them were huge changes in their time.
We're quickly closing in on the January 2015 ban list, and one of the most interesting things about it to me, despite the fact that this change will(probably) have zero impact on the next meta, is the fact that Dark Strike Fighter is coming off the list with its errata. I'm pretty sure this will mark the first time where a card's power level is significantly weakened via a new effect on a reprint just to be allowed back into the game, and I hope they touch on this new concept when talking about the meta at the time.
I'm gonna be forever thinking about that Ooguchi in the side.

Paying half your life for 1 card shortly befor losing the game is a gage level move.
Gage got to summon 1 monster. MBT got to summon 4 monsters. There's a huge difference between the two.

so shaddoll was a going second deck at time it goal was to otk so cimooo played that wrong
I loved how we saw the looming threat of shaddoll fusion game 3 and how busted it in the match up
This format was the first format where you need to orginate there chain link properly that was show game 2 but it didnt end up mattering

Oh, that's another thing that makes DUEA for me the beginning of Modern Yugioh, in that nowadays chain order is a standard part of the game that wasn't as frequent before DUEA.

I thought the very same and even commented (deleted) however, we missed the BA Alec (spelling) which negates a monster on the field till EoT.

Why did the BA’s die at the end of G1 after Vergil got booked?
Because Virgil becomes a nameless face-down Defense Position monster and therefore is no longer a Burning Abyss monster. The other BA monsters self-destruct if their controller has a non-BA monster on their field.

23:15 As awesome a play as this is, it's unfortunately a misplay. Astral Force can't be used on a turn you do any other Special Summons, because the card itself doesn't let you perform Special Summons other than the one it does.
Edit: I can't read apparently; as I have been corrected, the limit is only when the card uses its built in Draw Phase GY effect, my apologies.
"During your Draw Phase, if this card is in your GY, instead of conducting your normal draw: You can add this card from your GY to your hand. You cannot Special Summon during the turn you activate this effect, except by the effect of "Rank-Up-Magic Astral Force".
That time stamp doesn't show a misplay because "this effect" wasn't shown to be activated and in fact was not activated that turn. (or even the match iirc)
