Eva Zu Beck went to Pakistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in shandur polo festival 2019 and experienced polo game and horse riding. Buzkashi,Shandur and Chitral in Gilgit Baltistan become highly interesting for her while enjoying wild frontier in there.

The road trip to Shandur from Gilgit city is on of the most beautiful i have even been via Phander Valley and my fav place in Pakistan so far, its bumpy ride but with so less tourist visit this region even locals only visit for Polo Match only cz of which it gets v crowdy up there but on the way its all empty except v peaceful towns and extremely beautiful specially in Autumn colors are amazing and probably best time to visit but if you wanna go upto Shandur pass polo ground and lake which is almost 4000m high summer is best time which lush green valleys as in winter the pas is closed and covered fully in feets of snow. I woud highly recommend to visit this region of Phander Valley Shandur pass if you visit Pakistan, the road is not good but worth it, you can even cross pass from Gilgit Baltistan to KPK province and goto Kalash Valley. The match is actually between two provinces as well as ground is just at border of these provinces Chitral of KPK and Gilgit team from GB province.
