that is END OF TRANSMISSION
Boooooooooooo 😃
😂😂😂😂😂 yesssssss
hahahah well said :)
lol
The end of the transmission about a failed transmission. LOL
If the client won’t do tire maintenance. He sure won’t spend money on a transmission
EXACTLY.. if they won't put tires on it, how can they AFFORD $$ a trans??
@@TeemarkConvair it's not necessary that they can't afford something, it's more that they won't. I've met many a wealthy person who wear cheap, worn out clothing and drives clapped out cars.
Truth
@ORRadtech right, I work as a mobile mechanic and often then not the people with the most money are often the cheapest. And people with the least money who absolutely need their cars and can't afford new ones with pay better.
maybee they do not want to spend money on preventive maintenance and replace only when broken to safe the environment. think outside of box.
I think the best course of action towards that particular issues affecting that van can be dealt with by repositioning the aforementioned vehicle to the JUNKYARD.
Pull the motor first and put it into a late 70s Ranchero or Torino.
It's been nearly a decade since I've worked on an E4OD, but if I remember correctly, the output shaft slides into the transmission and then the tail housing slides over that. If there's anything in there, it will be the parking gear. The output shaft should be supported quite well inside the transmission and it's unlikely that it caused any major damage. Also, there is no bearing at the end of the tail housing; It's a bushing. I'm guessing it wore down to the point that the shaft was running directly on the housing, which resulted in the catastrophic fail.
Drop the transmission pan and look for sparkly bits. If there isn't any, I'd just replace the housing and output shaft.
Yes the customer needs tires, and a junkyard transmission
And who knows what else.....🤣
From the overall appearance and issues found I'd say the junkyard needs this vehicle.
...and a Toyota van...
No! this calls for tire shine!
strange it even was able to move with that almost broken shaft
I bet hearing across the shop to come over and hold a shaft while you hammer on it was making your employee rethink his life decisions at that moment, and whether he should be running out the door😂
Oh that's just a regular thing a couple times a day as a mechanic, just another day lubing stuff with the guys lol
Think that he and Ray are working well together.
Do you think penetrating oil was needed?
Hear crap like that and worse every day on the construction site, few laughs makes the day a little more bearable.
Gotta habe fun at work or its miserable! You guys know its not all fun n games but if you lighten your mood a little gets you thru the day!
Ray, it can't be carnage! It could either be trucknage or vannage!
I love the dual Cherry Bombs!
I saw them as another indication of the owner's 'thrift'.
Adds 100 horsepower and makes 'er sound like a racecar, don'chaknow. 🚗💨😆
Ray? It appears that you got shafted upon accepting this job. 😮😂😂
Just rolled in, customer states he needs a transmission fluid and filter change. 😂😂
Wishful thinking. You.... playin' yo'self!
And some spray foam.
He declined service and drove away.
And declined all repairs.
That vans B.E.R. Beyond Economical Repair!
It's F.U.C.T..Ford Undriveable, Cooked Transmission.
Welcome Jesus! A great addition.
This would be a good one to bring in a guest transmission specialist so we can get their opinion and guidance.
Do a TH-cam daisy chain? Next video links to Precision Transmission where they fix this thing.
Next is from FSC Trucking transporting it back to Florida and finally back to Rainman Ray's Repair?
@@jayrenner211 sadly precision transmissions is long over on youtube

@crimmer93069 No, they have a new channel. "Richard & Teresa Educational Transmission Videos" is what it's called. Most recent video was posted 10 minutes ago.
@@TheHonestL1ar nice, had no idea Imma check em out
Tailshaft comes out the pump end on that Trans. Planetaries look really wobbly. She's done!
I agree! Any play in that output shaft spells doom!! Leaking seal.... loose bearing.... etc.
The transmission looks like Bugs Bunny stuck a cork in the end before Elmer Fudd pulled the trigger.
It's amazing it still drives. Ray never disappoints with quality content. Holy sheit those tires.
Got the glass packs so you know it’s good
Hahaha, I remember "hanging chads"...! Hilarious...! Thanks for the laughs... Keep up your awesomeness...!
I'll bet that the election guy's eyes are still crossed...
@@spaceflight1019 right...!
The probable root cause of this mess is the owner ignoring general maintenance including noises and vibrations he ignored to get to this point. Good luck.
Its a No brainer, Trans Replacement 👍
That’s a perfectly fine set of tires if you are going to park it in a field and let nature reclaim it. Thanks for another great video.
That yoke spline seized on the Tail Shaft spline. Causes stress on the bearing and housing. Then Bang.
This type of thing happens commonly with tractor PTO shafts.
Everything must slide smoothly.
My thought exactly once I saw Ray having to hammer out the "slip yoke".
That’s What She Said!! 😂😂
Yup, agree! Those splines being seized, every single bump that rearend bouncing up and down caused stress on the trans...
Or blown trans tail bearing overheated the spline and seized it, then the case blew...
At least either way...that's the area of the failure...lol
It is amazing. You can see the discoloration in the cast aluminum housing from the excessive heat build up.
The beat tool you have, air hammer. Excellent tool.
The discoloration on the tail shaft of the trans says that bearing was smoking hot before failure. And the difficult removal of the driveshaft is another symptom. A junkyard trans might be the only option, along with rebuilding the driveshaft. So, I agree with your assessment of the needs. End of transmission! lol
I'm wondering why Ray put the shaft back on. The van was already immobile and couldn't be driven.
@@adotintheshark4848 He could drive it in/out of the shop...not wanting to tie up his hoist until the customer decides if to fix.
A reman replacement followed by forensic analysis on After Hours. Thanks for this presentation
A friend of mine had a 1990's something (time now 2015), Dodge Ram truck, AWD; I think a 250. This truck was used for work and pleasure. This fellow spent his weekends with his family at the cottage (about 2.5 hours away). Anyhow he didn't show up for work Monday morning. In the afternoon he reported to work without his million miler truck. His story was, he was about halfway home and the truck started to vibrate. The fellow didn't thing anything of it. The vibration turned to violent shaking and he continued driving. Then with a lot of prewarning, the driveshaft shot right through the truck's floor. Needless to say, he bought a new Dodge truck.🦊
After market manifolds and Ford's are a marriage made in heaven.
Ray is all the opinion and guidance I need!
Hi Ray, I can totally relate to this situation. I was doing 140 Kph at 2:30 AM and the exact same thing happened to the RODEO I was driving, fortunately the drive shaft staid on long enough for me to pull over.
Hammer time! "Can't touch this" video! Great job. Keep the vids coming.
Prime truck for some eco dynamic tires from Walmart and a junkyard trans. Keep on rolling. Thanks for the video.
Dave is a man of many words
Most mechanics are deep thinkers. I know that I am.
Bet those brakes are just nice and fresh too. Might be worth a look.
When my Chevy transmission failed for the 3rd TIME, I went to a local transmission shop instead of the dealer (who re built it twice already), and they recommended a Jasper re-manufactured unit. No further issues for the rest of the SUV's life of 300,000 miles - was needing a new timing chain, and other parts, more than the vehicles value.
That’s just means they weren’t good enough to fix it right. Jasper remanufactured product are junk
I see the problem Ray...a BG trans service and a bit of Speed tape she'll be good as new!!😂😂😂. MAX CARNAGE!!
Halfway through this video, we're already painfully north of four grand on obvious problems. Assuming everything else is in good condition!
Going to be interesting to see just how much sentimental value the customer has for this tired old machine.
I've only seen one other tail shaft housing do that and it was on Roadkill. I agree 💯 about the tires. It's extremely dangerous to drive on tires in that condition. They need new tires immediately.
That was a good episode
Ray, Just fill the dry rot crack on tires with bondo then paint side walls with black rubberized spray! 😂
Think that was done already.....
@@SeanBZA 😆
Didn't you ever see "World's Fastest Indian"? Ole Burt used shoe polish to conceal the cracks in the tires the night before his record setting run.
Ramen
Flex Seal!
Good to see project silver e-350 return. If on a budget , try some 15$ gently used tires from a reputable pick a part. Exhaust leak and loud steering pump should be addressed too. Enjoy Ray!
If you make the trip to a Pick-a-Part, film it!
Yes on a transmission that has been previously taken care of. Surely there are second hand ones that the owner of this van would appreciate an exchange for this inop meat grinder.
Tires to be replaced before it is allowed to leave this repair establishment. Great video Ray.
Viewed from New Zealand🤓
We all like to get best use out of our cars/trucks but really, what heaps of cra£ you get to fix! 🖖😎
Hi Ray, I'm so glad you use Jordan as a Reference (GOAT)!!
I agree with you Ray. best to just put a new transition. Up to the customer if its from a junkyard, new or rebuilt.
For the tires. There is a reason why the DOT require the manufacture date to be stamped into them. The compounds in the rubber brake down over time and will fail.
Yes it needs tires and transmission and drive shaft you rock rainman Cool 😎 man
Thank you for another great video. Cheers
@12:10 Ray, you need to be careful where you say that you need someone to "hold my shaft"!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Perfect time for the Wife Unit cameo, eh?
man, i feel for this guy, i had a van like that more than once.
That's the funniest driveshaft installation I ever saw 😂😂😂. .but it sure beats pushing. 😅
the amount of times I've yelled Kobe or Jordan and missed a trash can by at least twice the distance you did is at least 25, that gave me a great chuckle sir.
Nice one Ray man new trans
Those tires gotsta GO!!!
Those tires will work fine on a farm trailer that used in the field only 😊
As Dad always used to say "Don't force it! Use a bigger hammer!"
Reman trans, drive shaft rebuild, & tires.
Good morning Ray. Wow those tires are just a little younger than my son as he would be 0212 second week of 2012. Hanging Chad in Florida? Must be in the water😆😂🤣.
Looking forward to seeing the Mazda 2.3 turbo.
Ray, I happen to have a removed, E4OD Trans but with a transfercase still attached, took it out my 90' Ford Bronco, sold the engine to some one who wanted to build a race motor, and sold the truck to someone who wanted to make a swamp buggy with a v-6.
Love that "Gravity!"
👍👍😎✌️🤟 Not only yes on the tires, but HELL yes!
I work at Overdrive Auto in Mason City Iowa and that would be a good time for a new or used transmission plus the drive shaft all day long
😅
Great video
Hell Yes!!
Those econolines last forever. We had one hit over a million miles and it still wouldn’t die. We maintained it well but it was used in construction and was constantly hauling a heavy load.
I think the owner is a gambler. He also likes to play with "Jack-In-The-Box" games, and loves to blow up balloons to their absolutely maximum size!
Ray, come on really, you know we the people just drive it till it breaks down LMFAO 🤣🤣🤣
its deadedd. id like to see a trans specialist episode on this thing tbh
Wow those tires!!! Holy crap
That sun near the equator... 😬
I guess dry rotted tires is better than the North road salt rusting rolling metal vehicles 😅
Easier to swap tires out than cutting and welding patch panels
@@ricebike you got that right
@ricebike runs good needs trans badly
I think the best thing is a new van ! 😳😵💫😳
if i was ever in florida id love to spend a day workin at the shop,
From Randy in Chattanooga, Tennessee: I wouldn’t trust those tires to get me around the block safely!
You have to remember that it rains in Florida, A LOT. Those tires are a hazard to anyone else on the road as they are way too hard with age.
Really short but sweet video today!
Good day ray and hi Dave
Billy Bob says, "Smear some Armor-All on em. They will be fine around the farm.
Houston we've experienced a major malfunction....it's Junk
Those "Dog Dish" hubcaps!!! And if that van does get junked, they'll "belong" to the junkyard Doberman, no matter how much you're willing to pay for them!
Fantastic video Ray and Jesús.... Wonder how something like that can happen and if it can be fixed. Maybe get in inspected by a transmission especialista is a good idea.
Propshaft cam is wild 👌
Ray your work man is like you 😁🤣
That is one blown up trans. Holy carnage! Never seen that before. 😮
Well THAT was fun!
Hey Ray! Well, that tire should at least be entertaining when it blows out! Entertaining for those watching, not riding in it.
Dude said " just put the nuts over here on our rear end"..... LOL! Pwahahahahahahaha!!!!!!
Is this by "definition" ... "BUILT FORD TOUGH" ??? It appears this particular vehicle absolutely refuses to die.
Egon, " This chick is toast "!
“There Fixed it!” 😂
we are in 2024 i do think those tyres are well done .thanks for the video
A Real Video about The End of the Transmission 8 - 0 Have a Great Day Mister Ray 8 - ) no mandatory Wife Unit ???
For an old Ford, that undercarriage is surprisingly rust free.
It is in Florida where there is NO salt on the roads. We southerners don't have that problem. My 1996 truck's underside is like new.
I use to work at a tire shop, and that is a common issue with michalins. I have seen more of those dry rot long before they wear out. Which is why we recommend to customers to only get Michalins if they do a lot of driving. That said yes they need tires badly
That job Ray almost got hurt more than I seem in all his video`s. That left arm is going to get hammer shy.
Based on the condition of peripherals on it, the cheapest options are going to be the win, so I'd say a junkyard transmission, and they might even have a better set of tires than what's there for a cheaper price. My local junkyard had decent tires starting at about $20.
What you call a tailshaft, is what I call extension shaft/housing. The shaft you removed is what most people in Australia call tailshaft.
Howdy Ray, my teacher, Mr. Peffley always told me that if something like that happens, then there is a high chance that the transmission is junk as well, since all of that force put a lot of back pressure or pressure on the internal gears of the transmission. Safe, best, and cheapest bet is to get a junkyard transmission. Cuz I would buy the whole transmission rather than having to pay for the tail-end and then have to purchase a transmission. If I was the customer: Purchase the whole thing.
I hope we'll get an autopsy once the swap's done, Ray!
That tail shaft left the chat. Said I'm out. I'll do the transmission for ya.
5:13 Looks like my cracked heels in dry Colorado.
Austin Powers our way out... 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Please don't ever stop being you.
Owner of that van has probably paid way more than it's worth in repairs. Ray has spend a decent amount of time working on it.
I am surprised the owner did not try to "fix" the tailshaft with some spray foam and drywall screws, and the tires with JB Weld and clear packaging tape. That would be a perfect submission for Just Rolled In.
Those are always the people that are surprised they blew out a tire!!
