We had ONE recruit in my platoon (MCRD SD 1966) who had all five down as I think back. His Dad was also a SgtMaj in the Corps. He was Platoon Guide. Great guy and leader, sadly KIA while serving as a a Corporal in the Nam. Being prepared certainly helps, those Drill Instructors don’t miss much, and the slightest error puts the screw ups,and usually the whole platoon, in the sand pit. At least these days with all the videos out there, recruits should have a pretty good idea of what they are getting themselves into. Semper Fi from an old Marine.

Went to Iraq twice in 05 and 07 oh and I would like to throw in that I got attached to 2nd and 3rd Recon during my deployments. I made Sgt within 3 years. Not bad for a Vato from SouthWest of Houston... Oooorah Devil Dogs

I like this Marine right here. Good tips for future recruits. My recruiter gave me this exact same advice. Basically comes down to one thing, stay motivated, do more, not less. But some of these kids heading to boot camp aren't sure what that means. good stuff Marine!
My morning workouts; going in this fall. 20 pushups, 10 pull-ups, 40 sit-ups, and a 2 mile run in at least 16 minutes. After, 20 pushups, 15 pull-ups, 20 sit-ups. Work on 200 pushups a day. I focus on 20 in the morning and 20 in the evening. Pull-ups, whatever you kind find in school, run to the gym for lunch or something. 🤙🏼

I don’t where you went to boot camp but in 1991 they wanted to teach you everything and doing all that shit you suggested was a good way of getting your ass waxed by everyone else in your platoon. I was a SL and made PFC out of PI. Doesn’t matter if you’re first, last you’re going to get fucked up. So just realize this was your decision and do your best. Don’t hide they will find you.
Do they generally pick on the shorter people? I’m just curious because I’m below average height (about 5’6”- in shoes I’m 5’7”). I’m just curious if they would pick on me more because chances are I would be the shortest in the platoon.

Dude start now...biggest thing is running and cardio...do lots of push-ups, sit-ups, pull ups, running....lift some weights....but definitely start now bro:..the sooner the better. The sooner the better shape you will be in. And more discipline you will have. Don’t wait until your 17 or 18
