IF I remember correctly using the camera as a 3rd person was started with the Marx Brothers they used it quite often. Another one that used it often was Jerry Lewis it was also used by others. These types of movies are no longer made sadly made. It added a depth to the movies/shows as well as just a good comedic touch.
Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, Bud Abbot and Lou Costello all were great comedians and their movies just great.
