    Jason is a classic D&D Revenant. Revenants are basically Super Zombies who will resurrect over and over again after being killed until their unfinished business is completed. Most often this is revenge. But sometimes this cycle is attached to a specific location or type of person, such as Camp Crystal Lake and drunk fornicating young adults.

    • @ParanormalTheology
      @ParanormalTheology ปีที่แล้ว +62

      Dude! 100%! Lore wise his status was induced via his mother trying to resurrect him with the Necronomicon from Evil Dead (for real) but his existence is legit a Deadite Revenant!

    • @ryanjones_rheios
      @ryanjones_rheios ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Definitely in the later movies, its less clear in the earlier ones I'd say, since I don't think he's undead yet. At that point he seems more like low-level Barbarian with the 5e rest rules. (And maybe some weird bonus on death saves) Just incredibly hard to put down for an average person, usually requiring a crit to take out of a fight even in the short-term, and all he needs is a breather to get the HP back and he's going again.

    My favorite thing about Jason Vorhees vs other slasher movie killers is that Jason acts more like a force of nature than anything else.
    Ghostface plays with his food and toys with them before he kills and plays sick games with everyone. Michael Meyers, being the embodiment of evil is just as sadistic, but more so in how he kills. He is not clean with it and often seems to go through lengths at times to be as brutal and make his victims suffer as he does.
    But Jason. He just kills you. He doesn’t play games with you and he doesn’t seem interested in your suffering. The vast majority of his victims are killed in very direct and quick methods. Cut your head off, stabbing you through the eye or the heart. Beating you to death if he needs to. Hell the most sinister way I can recall him killing is with strangulation but even then if he has a weapon he’ll use it instead. And even when he stops and looks down at his victims it comes off more so as making sure they’re dead than basking in the act.
    These things along with his near supernatural resilience and strength and ability to somehow traverse distances faster than someone at a dead sprint honestly make him to be my favorite slasher movie killer. Because while others are sadists, Jason is just that: a killer.

    I remember when I was a kid, my dad liked to watch horror movies all the time and he would give me these wild explanations about them if he had seen them before. For Friday the 13th series my dad summarized it as being about Jason, to the best of my recollection his version of the plot went something like "Jason is like a zombie. In the first one it was about his mom, when she died she put a curse or somethin' out there and it brought Jason back at the end. Now Jason can't die and he haunts the camp for people like those that killed his mom." I mean it is not exactly accurate, but it's not wrong either.

It was on halloween so before they opened up, my mom brought my siblings and I around so my dad could see us in our costumes before we went out to trick or treat. I remember her being really nice, taking a picture with us, and complimenting our costumes.... Guys, "stop, hammer time" _is_ from the song U Can't Touch This.
    Also, the way I've always understood the Friday 13 superstition is that Friday is traditionally associated with witches and thirteen was originally considered a magical number, which over time got it associated with witchcraft and bad luck. So, basically, Friday 13 became thought of as unlucky since it was a day when supernatural forces were extra powerful and you were more likely to get hexed. Don't know any sources that back that up, though, it's just what I heard at some point.

Jared has such good actorial (is that a word?) range that he can do Walker Texas Ranger, Sam Winchester, Dean Forester, and Clay Miller. He has so many characters with such different personalities and does all of them so well. Also love the film/horror movie content. I definitely think getting the cinematic commentary from Aiden would be so cool. I would say maybe include some more shots of the antagonists because I think it would help add on to what you are saying. I also realized in this movie Jason was not the horror villain I thought he was. I can’t tell most of them apart so that’s on me

    I think you guys could expand this concept into lots of stories.
    You could do a whole series on the cultures that inspired the different species in LOTR.
    You could do the story of Okiku's well that inspired the ring movies.
    The Strangers was based on a true story. I would love to see that explained as an unsolved mystery.

    In Freddy vs Jason vs Ash (canon to Freddy vs Jason the movie) he is a zombie of the Necronomicon Ex Mortis (Evil Dead version), Part IX he is a “Hell Worm” (also partially canon to Freddy vs Jason), and in another comic he is simply a zombie resurrected by Native American burial grounds at Crystal Lake that woke him from death due to how he died.
    And in part VI he is just a zombie resurrected by lightning.

    • @pietrayday9915
      @pietrayday9915 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Native-American-Burial-Ground cliche almost sounds like it could have been a fun nod to Stephen King's 'Pet Sematery', which sounds like it could have been an even more brilliant origin story than the Necronomicon angle, though something tells me that I'd be giving the writers too much credit there. Seriously, Jason being resurrected as a "came back wrong" zombie-thing in a Lovecraftian "Micmac" burial ground-a-la-Stephen King's 'Pet Sematery', using the Necronomicon 'Evil Dead' style, could have been a lot of very weird and atmospheric horror movie fun, and really, I think the whole premise that Jason evolved into by the second or third sequel really sounds like it could have fit the Pet Sematery-meets-"deadite" template much better than whatever we got instead!

    • @pietrayday9915
      @pietrayday9915 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't know that!
      I remember a rather adorable horror movie spoof film from 1981, 'Saturday the 14th', that of course makes a comedic nod to the date, whether they were aware of the actual date the year before or not. 'Saturday the 14th' - predating 'Poltergeist' by a year, give or take, was about a suburbanite family moving into a haunted house where the TV played only 'Twilight Zone' reruns and the kids were menaced by goofy monsters after reading an evil book, 'Evil Dead' style!
      I wonder if the Lore Lodge team were aware of the '80s-era 'Friday the Thirteenth: The Series' TV show when researching this video? It was not connected directly to the movies (being about a brother-and-sister team of would-be antique shop inheritors who team up with a stage magician/occultist to track down cursed antiques sold by their uncle after the devil called due on a contract for the uncle's soul), and IIRC the official word afterward from the creators is that they have nothing to do with each other, but the show DID appear at about the same time as 'Freddy's Nightmares', an anthology horror show hosted by a wise-cracking Freddy Krueger, at a time when slasher movies were pop-culture hotcakes, and a few years before a 'Poltergeist: The Legacy' TV series that had nothing to do with those films aired, so someone, somewhere had to have been aware that putting 'Friday the 13th' on a TV series at least implied it was related to the films in some way! (The TV series was produced by the same guy who produced the 'Friday the 13th' film sequels, and legend has it that he considered doing an episode where Jason's hockey mask was one of the cursed antiques, but the plan never went through, because he wanted the series to stand on its own, and he says he only used the same name to help sell the series to Network Execs, and because of the shared connection to the date's association with curses and bad luck....)

    I believe that, in a comic, it was revealed that his father was an abuser and after Pamela took off with Jason, she became very protective over him, which would explain why she went on a tampage to keep people away from the camp, which fueled Jason's motives as well, along with his mother's death.
    With his survival from drowning, i believe it was stated somewhere that he learned on the go and just didnt go back to the camp because he didnt want to get bullied, kind of condemning the camp to his mother's wrath.
    As for how he survived for 20 years ..i think a hunter helped him out or something.

    Heh, NJ native here. I've seen a bit of a civil war about which part of New Jersey that was supposed to be where Camp Crystal Lake was located, based on our usual North Jersey/South Jersey divide: North says it's in the NJ Appalachians, South says it's in the Pine Barrens. I personally think it's in the mountains, since it doesn't really feel like the Pines in my experience (also, if it was the Pines, then the Jersey Devil should have been factored in somehow).
    Anyway, the only movie in this series that I really liked was the very first, cuz it felt clear that the murders were all Mrs. Voorhees' vengeance, that Alice was just affected by the trauma of it all, & that Jason as we know him now wasn't really supposed to exist. But you can't really make "middle-aged mom in a sweater" into a horror icon like they could with him.

So in a sense its the same villan all the way thru the series. Because it makes no sense for his mom to go on a killing spree in the first place if hes alive in the woods he would return to her. Also explains him always hearing her voice shes still in there with him pushing him to kill from the start.

      I didn't even think of the 'Poltergeist' movies, good call! That's a franchise that really ran off on some weird rails, the original movie had a very strange and complicated production backstory as well (if I remember correctly, the story started out as something much closer to 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' meets 'E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial', and evolved into a ghost story through some rewrites!) I rather liked the under-rated and under-appreciated reboot film, and believe it or not there was a TV series somehow based on the original films (I don't remember watching it much, but the TV series really ran off on a weird side-rail, and one suspects it was meant to have been an unrelated TV series that had the 'Poltergeist' brand tacked on as an afterthought!)

    I have to take this time to talk about the Coast Guard Cutter Edisto. It was decommissioned a few years ago but the Hull Number was 1313. The four letter "call sign" (which usually has nothing to do with the ship itself) was "NLKY" as in "Not Lucky". Our ship's mascot artwork was a black cat with an eyepatch (with a clover on it) and a snaggle tooth. The RADAR trackball was replaced with a 13 billiard ball at some point (which I got when the ship was decommissioned by replacing it with the original ball). We got every Friday the 13th off as "Lucky Eddie Day". And, to dig a little bit deeper in a "nerdy" sense our small boat was hull number 181308. It was an 18 foot RIHB, so the hull number had to start with "18", but:
    If you take 5 from 18 you get 13
    If you add 5 to 08 you get 13
    So with a tiny bit of math our small boat hull number became "131313".
    I always say that when they commissioned the Edisto they had a sense of humor and leaned in to the "bad luck" idea. As far as her success, in 31 years she got 14 drug busts (average of one every 2.2 years). Fairly succcessful.
