+Tech Zilla I had this issue too when I got my phone last week. Tried all the usual of clearing data, cache, trying save mode etc. all to no avail. I did perform a factory reset which solved this issue for about 30 mins before it returned. I then stumbled upon this suggestion of turning of Smart Stay and XDA forums and since doing that my phone has operated perfectly fine.
Judging by the number of people having this issue I do think Samsung should have discovered this prior to releasing the phone. When I phone their tech support etc they just told me the phone was faulty and to send it in for a repair (which I didn't want to do on a brand new phone). Any decided to search the net and found this solution and now hoping Samsung fix the issue so I can turn Smart Stay back on!
+Mark Garton I totally agree with you, Samsung should ask some of us at xda to test the products for them prior to release.
I sometimes feel that manufacturers now days are in a rush to get the latest product out before anyone else. HTC with their M9 last year is a prime example. After the updates and fixes the m9 is actually really really good.

Mine was doing this and here is something I observed and an interesting solution. Nothing I did following all the suggestions, hints, tips here on TH-cam and across the Web would work. I even factory reset the phone and still it happened to the point where I was considering taking it to the shop for repair.
It was at this point that I noticed while going through various menus / apps etc that in the swipe down notification tray that the "torch" icon was showing it was in the "on" position i.e the icon was highlighted in blue but no amount of pressing it would cancel it however the LED camera flash was not physically on that is to say there was no light shining.
I have the "All In One" toolbox app installed whereupon it gives you the option to install a Torch plugin so I decided to give it a go and installed it. The torch plugin gives you two options to control the main front screen which it lights up as a bright plain white wallpaper and the other option to actually control the camera flash LED with an on / off toggle button. I turned on the LED and it lit up (as per a torch) and turned it off.
I then checked the "torch" icon in the notification drop down menu and it had switched off and wasn't highlighted in blue. I then clicked the camera and it switched back on and returned to normal operation.
So that was my discovery and it worked, so hope that helps anyone.

This did nothing to help me. I even found the plugin but have no idea where to find it afterwards. If it replaced the standard widget then it did nothing. I'm uninstalling this. A seal at least gets a fish after jumping through hoops. To me, this app is just more work for no results and seems plain fishy. It might be useful for something but for me it did nothing fo help solve the issue discussed here.

My galaxy s7 never had smart stay on and i still have that issue.... I've tried all the other solutions through xda and youtube but still have not been able to resolve my issue

another mayor flaw is when we insert a SD card most of us get a persistent notification that say to move the data to SD card. and there is a fix but is very annoying. On this subject there is a way to make the phone storage and the SD card to work as one but I don't know how to do it.
i have the same camera failed problem, i never used the smart stay ever since i had the phone, i bought it completley new from ebay made sure everything was on point, one day around new years just remember using the flash light to go to the restroom turn it off then next morning camera wasnt working. had it taken to try to get the camera replaced after rebooting reseting facotry reseting clearing the cache and all supposebly i was told it was a hardware problem but not even sure since another phone fixing place told me it was the camera, (my phone is on the latest update as of now) i gave up on the phone as they told me it would be cheaper to buy a new phone than to get it fixed but i dont even have money for a new phone so im stuck with a "frustrated camera" 😧

I HAVE THE SOLUTION,ITS ANOTHER APP USING THE FLASHLIGHT,I MADE SETTINGS ON MY PHONE AND MY CAMERA WORKED AND I SAVED THE SETTINGS,SO I CAN SHARE THE SETTINGS WITH YOU AND YOU INSTALL THE SETTINGS THROUGH SMART SWITCH

Tech Zilla I restarted my s6 edge thousend of times and it wont work anyway. Smart stay was never on. what is the problem ? :(

They moved it from Display to Advanced Features.
I have never experienced that since I have the S7 edge fron 25 Feb. The camera works fine for me. mine is having Samsung made camera and Exynos chips

I've tried everything, rebooting and factory resetting my phone.. even done what you showed, camera still isn't opening and any app that accesses my camera won't open either...... please help. I don't know what else to do and taking in my phone is my last resort. any other suggestions?? thanks in advance

Kushal Shroff no. It’s a hardware problem and my local telephone company doesn’t fix it. I’ve looked around the island as to who can fix it and I found out that its costs the same as getting a new phone.
Chocolate Lovah have you tried contact ing samsung about it? I think they are already aware of it

is it sony or samsung sensor? i have a sony sensor and have no problems! only problem i found on my s7 edge is when wieving something white on direct sunlight it turnes pink... is that normal? i didnt have that problem on my s5
mine is the Samsung sensor but Samsung has now fixed the issue with a software update, the pink colour you are experiencing is not normal
+Tech Zilla so i should send back for servising... i also notice few areas that look a litlle dimer but also only when exposed to direct sunlight
+Borut Pečkaj I would get it replaced, I don't have this issue with my handset, do you have automatic screen brightness switched on? Try that because in bright sunlight it automatically increases the screen brightness dramatically which might solve your issue

+Borut Pečkaj if auto brightness is not correcting this then yes I would send it in for service as I just tested my phone in direct sunlight and I don't have this issue
