We compete in FTR in F class. You can only shoot .223 or .308. A .223 is not as competitive at 1,000 yards as the .308, so most shoot .308. The vast majority of FTR shooters are using the Berger 200.20X or Hybrid. Not many (a few) have chosen the heavier bullet. The 200 has proven to be the best for accuracy/recoil management for the .308 IMO. Also regarding some of the comments below. The 200 will have less muzzle velocity but will be faster at the target because of the retained energy. It used to be with the old 175's, you just needed to be supersonic at the target for 1,000 yards. Now most of us are around 1,500 +/- FPS at 1,000 yards with the 200g projectiles.
You have found the holy grail in a .308 that can fire under 2700 FPS and still hit the target @ 1000 yards that consistent. Despite you are shooting out of a 30 inch barrel. There’s not much skill required for this sort of shooting. The shooter here proves it as seen in misplaced shots from having no knowledge of what to do about the wind. In other words, to hit the target he is adjusting from previous bullet impact disturbance to ground.or hits on on steel but off mark. A better scenario for those here who want to advance long range marksmanship is participation in NRA governed Long-Range Competition in Match Rifle or Service Rifle Division. This is scored competition and if the shooter plots his shot calls and strikes on a facsimile target in his score book he will quickly grasp the effects of wind to know what adjustments are needed when similar wind and weather conditions appear again. Also, a shooter can do well shooting factory loaded 175 grain match ammunition from either the M1A or a 24 inch heavy barreled varmint type bolt gun which has been match conditioned. These rifles do not have a multitude of adjustment features and thus will force the shooter to better comprehend his need for bone/sling support, muscular relaxation, and Natural Point of Aim to hit where aimed from just a solid prone position. At any rate, this video for me has no value and the entertainment was not worth the price of my time.

The .308 is the ideal training cartridge for any aspiring to reach the High Master Classification level of Long-Range Competition. First, factory loaded match grade ammunition assures shooter/target analysis can focus on shooter error rather than ammunition issues. And, since the .308 has an MOA wind constant of about 10 at 1000 yards it forces the shooter to learn how to correctly counter for wind conditions to produce good long range scores. Finally, literally thousands of rounds can be fired from a .308 chambered rifle before barrel throat wear will effect accuracy.
@@charlesludwig9173 I shoot at a place that has a 1000 & 1200 yard range. The bullet nneds to be traveling a minimum of 1200 fps to register on the scoring system. Most .308 rounds can't reach the target with enough velocity to register a score. Apparently a round can be loaded that will be 1200+ fps, but few if any shooters use a .308 at those ranges. My 6.5 CM is moving at 1400 fps at 1000 yards and 1200 fps at 1200 yards. The .308 is a great hunting round for shots out to 500 yards, but it isn't a good choice for long range target shooting.
