In Mexico my school held a piñata competition every year before Christmas holidays. Each classroom would have to come up with a cool design/idea and we would make it using the balloon method. It was tons of fun, because the day of the contest the entire building of the school was decorated with the piñatas we made. Those were the days...
everyone keeps saying how greedy everyone is for immediately grabbing the candy, just remember you're the one with the bat, do what you want with that information
It doesn't. It was invented in Italy as a drinking game, taken to Spain where they decided to make it a children's game, then use it to force a religion on people who were living peacefully with the land.
Many games like hide and seek, toys, even the tales our parents tell us to sleep are based on disturbing events many centuries ago, even before the AC.
I think it's interesting how they described an old school version and a modern version, but neither one of those are the pinatas that I mostly see which are just made out of cardboard on the inside.
Where are you from?? I’m from venezuela and we only make them out of cardboard too, I think in Mexico they might make them like this 🤔 since there was pulparindo inside of the piñata.
I always thought making piñatas of beloved characters was odd because the purpose of a piñata is to beat it with a stick but.... Now it's even weirder for a whole new reason... 😳
"The star symbolized Satan" remains to this day the most out of left field How It's Made quote, even beating out the closing line from the segment on hearses.
I need to tell You this once and for all, Satan likes to play with the dogs out the backyard on His birthdays! He loves birthday decorations and party hats! 🤘🤘
Pinatas were brought to Spain by the Italians. Originally called a Pignata, made from clay pots, and meant for adults. They filled them with booze. The Italians took the tradition to Spain, who decided that it was debaucherous to have an item like that (booze filled) and changed the way they were used, adding candy and trinkets for the children. The missionaries decided to add Christianity to it, but the creators most certainly NEVER intended it to be a way to convert anyone, it was a drunken game by a bunch of Italians. Now Mexicans use it for Jedi training😂😂😂 I am both Mexican and Italian, and ACTUALLY wrote a paper on the origin of the pinata in college.
Okay, funny story: one time when I was like seven, my brother's friend had a birthday party and I had helped setting up, and the pinata was the green power ranger, and when it came to my turn to hit the pinata, I had knocked off one of it's arms and sent it flying into the air. The next day, I was watching power rangers and wondered how the green ones arm was still there 🤣 man 7 year old me was crazy
My mom made pinatas the modern way for both mine and my sister's birthday parties when we were kids. She made a SpongeBob one that we remembered looked good, but when we found a picture of it, we all were shocked and laughing at how ugly and scary it looked lmao.
I don't know what that poor pinata lady is going through, but she looks like she's going to jump off a bridge the second the camera crew leaves. This is made all the worse with all those warped, horrifying disney characters surrounding her from all sides in the background, staring off into space nearly as vacantly as she is. I weep for her. Life continually beats her down, and all that falls out.... is candy.
Like a month ago we bought a mario piñata and that sucker was hard to break. The kid inflected no damage to it so they had us the teens break it. We went through 2 wooden Broom stick trying to break it. We found out that thing had double walled carbord. I had to rip mario`s head off with the broken wooden stick. It fell so wrong.
Yeah the ones that aren't hand made are made with super strong cardboard. Same thing happened the kids couldn't break not the teens so the adults just cut it open and threw the candy everywhere
Piñata, The idea of breaking a container filled with treats came to Europe in the 14th century, where the name, from the Italian pignatta, was introduced.
The concept of character themed piñatas is strange to me. It’s like “Oh my kid loves this character! I’ll have them beat the tar out of their favorite character on their birthday!”

I have a fear of these things. One time, when i was about 6 the neighbor boy whacked me in the head with the stick because he broke the pinata and we all lunged for the candy and he was still swinging that stick and he hit me right in the face. To this day i literally can't stand to even watch kids whack at that thing 🤣
Huh, the clay pot method seems time consuming, I’m sure the final blow is really satisfying tho. The balloon method has a lot of wiff when striking it, you might end up with a kick getting overzealous in their swing. But then, that’s why you have the kids standing far away from the action
Balloon pinatas are a lot more flare because on top of the piñatas being able to be moved way faster and swinging farther, kids can now all jump in to get candy when it's finally broken. Clay piñatas are a bit dangerous if you jump right when they are broken because the pieces can be a bit sharp for the children.
