Uninvited Stranger Caught Me Off Guard!

  • n today's episode of Wranglerstar, an unexpected visitor interrupts my day while I'm busy building on the cozy cabin. This uninvited stranger catches me off guard and asks me for diesel. I was appalled because he had a truck with a brand new kayak and bike on the roof rack! My response? "Sell your kayak and buy diesel." Needless to say, he didn't appreciate my answer and moved on down the road.
Left in shock at his audacity, I started to reconsider his way of life. Could it be better? Roaming free, unburdened by job or family obligations, and living without the weight of mortgage debt. This encounter made me reflect deeply on what it means to live a satisfying life.
Join me as I puzzle out who might be living the more fulfilling life: me, a man of responsibility, or him, a man living more carefreely.
    Don't miss this thought-provoking episode!

I have come to realize America is FULL of professional freeloaders. It disgusts me. Curches give away food during the week, and these people line up on every day. Offer a decent item for sale - like a wheelbarrel - for $20 - and you might get a few responses. Offer it free and your inbox will fill with people who don't even need the damn thing. I just gave away some filing cabinets, and the woman wanted to know if I had a lock for the one she was taking. I told her they sell them in stores. F'in freeloaders!!

I was driving my tractor in my field one day. A car pulled up at the end of the field as I was working. The driver motions for me to stop and come down to talk to him. With a bit of hesitation and a kind of stern look on my face I oblige him, as I walk up he doesn’t say “Hello” or “how’s it going “ no, no he says “Do you have a job for me?” Dumbfounded I said nothing and returned to my work.

A lone farmworker was approached in the field by 2 men on foot (Central Calif near I-5, early 1970's). They asked for water and while one drinker held the jug to his lips, he threw the bottle towards the worker and was simultaneously jumped on by the other. FFWD, my police chief godfather was telling my dad of two men who walked into the doctor's office sporting horrible slashes. The doctor called the police and while they were being treated an officer arrived to see what was going on. They refused to give any info. A few minutes later, the farmworker arrived at the PD to file a report of an attempted robbery. He got the best of them, swing his shovel like a battle axe and inflicted some serious injury.

To this day if I approach an older person...a police officer or fireman (who risk it all for others)...a person in the military I will call them "sir...or Ma'am) to show respect for them. In the old testament we read that Elihu, who was young, waited patiently for the men in the group to talk. at the company I work for as a cabinetmaker/handyman(36+ years) a 22 yr old in shipping dept says he wants to work with and learn from me the skills of the trade - kid barely knows what end of the screwdriver to hold to drive screws - after working with me part time and eventually stopping I asked him if he was still interested in learning - his problem is he doesn't want to put forth the effort to learn - but his response to me was, "You know what to do if you want me over there to work with you - tell the boss (same boss for us both) that you need help and ask to have me moved over." What an arrogant answer - same as this guy calling you to him asking if you have any diesel.........

I’d have given him some , if I had it to spare , then I’d have take him hostage , by taking my time and telling him , next time he puts the kayak in, to see how water is level, then, tell him a story about Jesus on stormy water.
I bet by the time I’m got done filling up that can and talking , and of course , it’s my can, I have to help to put it in your vehicle, more time more witnessing and being a light.
When I was done , he’d have a lot to think about, I may have planted a seed , or watered one.

In all honesty, yes. As is probably true where you are, in East TN even a meth head would have been super respectful and apologetic. He would have offered anything he had on him at the time, including to work or help in some way. Our folks can be knuckleheads when they think no one is watching but always super respectful face to face. Its also true that an armed society is a polite society…and we just expect it here that every man, woman and child carries.
